Transgender Awareness in More Conservative Areas

I am a FTM in Texas, and I have a MTF friend in a "blue" state.

Something I realized is, that there is more acceptance in these "blue" states, there are even laws regarding LBGT communities.

There are some here too of course but they're less known, and as a FTM I actually get harrassed at public places and even work for my identity.

I believe just as religion you can show it off, yes, but you can't sit there and judge people for that what they do, and you shouldn't shove it down someone's throat.

There however should be something more along the lines of gender neutral bathrooms, and at least more basis on equality in areas of customer service and workplace decency,

(due to the fact that there is more sexual harassment happening to the transgender community at work)

These ideas don't have to be totally forced, and they don't have to be shoved down people's throats, but it would be more respectful for people to take notice of these things so that way no one gets judged feeling or harassed.

Okay. First of all. What does religion have to do with anything.

Second of all, I don't know where every one comes up with these "religion being shoved down my throat". Not once in my entire life have christians or any other religions have approached me to to tell me about their god. Infact, I was approached twice by atheists that are trying to inform me how religion is a hoax. But that's besides the point.

If you're having trouble living in a community that is not so accepting of your situation. Move to a state that is more accepting. I believe things are a lot better in San Francisco, CA. Think of it as following your career and sending you off to San Francisco. I took a 15 hour flight, and moved half away across the world away from my family and friends to live in a place more suitable for me, that was a lot more difficult that a one hour domestic flight from Texas to California. That being said, I am not justifying their actions, nor are they right. But it is easier to just re locate than to change every one around you and upset them.

@Mustachekitteh Or a christian thing, or muslim, or, you know, the abrahamic faiths in general. If slaughtering people who refuse to convert to your religion for countless centuries doesn't count as shoving religion down a person's throat, I don't know what does.
(judaism being the exception here, of course, as there was never a massive jewish empire xenophobically murdering anyone who wouldn't convert to their religion... something that can not be said about the other two abrahamic religions)

A lot of places have family bathrooms for either gender, don't they? At least around my house they do. Not the smaller places like family diners, but all major stores and such.

Either way, we're making progress. Eventually being LGBT won't be a big deal anymore, once all the old white politicians retire/die off.

10 years ago, transgender was not remotely on the public radar. It virtually never came up. There was nothing in the media. Nobody had a view on it because it was just... not in the public discussion space.

In the last 5 years, it's become -much- more visible. And that's not a 'finished' process, I'd expect that to continue.

My gut is that transgender rights will move 'faster' than gay rights did.

But I'm sure not only acceptance but even awareness is area dependent.

im all for the change and support for the transgender thing. -_- yet lots of people aren't gonna be ready for the TS thing. I'm not talking about the racist pigs that think everyone should be white and blonde haired. But the day to day people. People get uncomfortable around something they don't understand, even fearful. Its not that they think (well sometimes) a TS is a freak -_- its just a very new and strange experience to them

I am all for people being treated fairly. But the bathrooms is where I draw the line. I am absolutely not okay with a person who was born as a man going into the women's restroom. It would cause great inconvenience to me and it would make me extremely uncomfortable.

I don't understand this, women's bathroom have private stalls, the only thing you do with the other people in the bathroom is wait in line and wash your hands. Why would a transgender person in the woman's bathroom make you uncomfortable? You're all there for the same personal reason
