Sarcasm, "the lowest form of wit"?

Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit since its aim is to belittle or hurt someone, and to laugh at their expense; [...]. On the other hand, true wit associates with the word "levity", and boosts everyone's spirits, being aimed at an action, a happening or an attitude.
-Mary Purnell, Revesby

Disclaimer: I don't give a shit about your opinion. If you think sarcasm is reserved solely for the "intelligent" and "sophiscticated" human beings, you can fuck off. This is not a "I disagree" or "I agree" take, this is a rant. The question in the title is quite obviously rhetorical, if you think otherwise, you can go fuck yourself. Also if you're going to be an asshole and a bully, you can go fuck yourself.

Sarcasm,

My experience with the sarcastic

Last year I used to be friends with this guy called Tom. In December (2013), after 3 months of knowing him, he attacked me with a deodorant can and a lighter. I hit him, I was instantly vilified and alienated. I suffered the worse 10 months of my life and subsequently failed the year. The help and support I got from University, although asked for quite late, was minimal and almost half-hearted.

This guy was the epitome of sarcasm, a complete and utter asshole, a pathological liar, a sociopath and a generally obnoxious human being. I couldn't take him seriously.

Why sarcasm conflicts with my character?

It's very simple really: me and sarcasm don't get along.

  • Now of course I know what sarcasm is, and the grand majority of the time I can distinguish it - in speech at least - but using sarcasm as much as this guy Tom did, you tend to lose all sense of genuinity in a person.

  • If you want to use sarcasm as much as he did,you can, but go find someone else to be sarcastic to because you don't belong in my life.

  • I'm a very blunt human being, I say what I think and there's nothing else to it.

  • "Oh you must be so thrilled to be a bin man" isn't funny, it's cruel and pompous.

  • I hate bullies, I hate antagonistic, condescening prats and, again, I hate the pompous.

Sarcasm, "the lowest form of wit"?

Overly sarcastic people are BULLIES.

Sure I might get a laugh from sarcasm once in a while, sure I might even be sarcastic myself (call it what you want), but don't overdo it, because you might just come across someone like me who won't appreciate it.

I hope you enjoyed this Take, and I hope you'll read and appreciate my future ones too.
