No, thanks to mass media, women support programs and the legal system it is the other way around, at least for any guy who is not in the management of a big company. Which is basically any young guy around 20 today.
(Young) Women can basically do anything they want today, no consequences, young men can't and yes this is causing hate to which many women are blissfully ignorant.
bullshit. people from all walks of life are oppressed. you think ugly chubby girls can do what ever they like, or are they seen as inferior due to media portrayal and social conditioning? This goes the same for both men and women, but if you think women aren't oppressed then you're being ignorant.
Men can't do what they want but should they be able too? No not really. Basically people just to stop being dicks and seeing them selves as victims. Oh I'm being a victim of cyber bulling, then turn the fucking computer off, it's not hard.
I treat everyone the exact same, with mildl contempt until they prove them selves to be interesting, regardless of anything, I have gay friends, I have black friends, I have Indian friends, I have Asian friends, I have lesbian friends, my best friends a girl, people just need to be interesting
Oppressed is too strong of a word. Inequality at the work place for sure. It's well documented fact that women's wages are lower then men. Politically speaking, U.S. is one the few western countries yet to have a female president or vise president. Socially speaking, it's still a taboo for an older woman to take a younger lover or husband. I am sure I think of a few more.
As far as I know Sarah Palin is a woman, and she ran for Presidency. She didn't win because she's a woman, it's because she's a complete and utter cunt.
Oppression is a rather strong word and I'd say no, women aren't being "oppressed". You have to be able to see shades of grey even in hell or improving the world becomes night impossible. Women are being systematically stripped of opportunity, not oppressed.
I think there is some gender role differences currently, I also feel that a majority of employees seem to be Female dominant vs male majority.
I think a high percentage of females are returning to what some call old fashioned beliefs but are also career oriented, so they are doing a lot. but member.. if a small percentage of people are extremely vocal and loud, they get heard. for those who are happy with whatever role they play and are secure with not only there life but there themselves as a person, then they will probably be less vocal because they will see others as overreacting maybe and are Happy people already with what's on there plate and how they deal with it. this is just my thought..
Well done for the copy and paste, but is Feminism's aim really to have equality between men and women?
If it truly were then there should be no need to call it feminism - it should be called humanism instead, because all feminism really does is express equality by means of favouring the female sex which ISN'T equality.
Yes, even if unintentionally or just out of ignorance. Every time a guy calls a girl a slut for wearing a mini skirt, we're oppressing them. Every time we say men are stronger, or smarter, its oppression. Every rape joke is oppression. There's big consequences to all these things that people just don't know about, but are there.
It's oppression when we say men are stronger? How? I often get into debates with feminists on the subject of domestic violence, because there's very little help for male victims out there in comparison to female victims even though men and women experience domestic abuse at roughly the same rate (I posted links on my comment to back this up). Feminists often tell me that this is because men are stronger, so women need more help than men do. The same goes for rape. This study shows that almost as many men were forced to penetrate as women were raped (a woman forcing a man into sex isn't classed as rape), with 1,270,000 female victims and 1,267,000 male victims: www.cdc.gov/.../NISVS_Report2010-a.pdf
But they'll call bullshit for the same reason then they'll go apeshit whenever anybody dares say that men are stronger in any other situation.
A man that doesn't work out is pretty close in strength to a girl of the same size that doesn't work out. If you've ever been to a gym with lots of girls, you'll see a lot of them are pretty fuckin strong, they might not look it, but that's because the lack of testosterone doesn't let girls get as big as us men. A woman once won a lifting competition (she lifted over 500lbs, I think).
I wouldn't completely trust rape stats either cause it varies by region and a lot of cases aren't even reported. And it sounds like the girls you're dealing with are extremists, not a good example of what a real feminist is.
Quick: how many women will agree to a second date if a guy doesn't pay her share on the first date?
She'll still want a guy who makes more than her. And if you think this is a myth, just watch the way women light up when they hear the guy is a doctor, or executive. But of course, she also believes she entitled to the very jobs of the men she's attracted to. Not on merit of course. On quota. Hence the complaints about equal pay, without women actually doing the dirty, dangerous, high-risk and high-stress jobs that actually earn men more.
In a relationship and want to get married? Guess what, you have the privilege of now saving a few months of salary to buy her a nice shiny rock. But of course, because it's the modern era, she won't follow tradition and have her folks pay for the wedding, you now get to split the cost.
Should your marriage fail? Well, she'll get the kids and the house. And you'll keep paying even if she makes more.
Oh right. Negative impacts on women are oppression. Negative impacts on men? Well that's just gender roles that nobody likes (except women when it's to their advantage).
So it's not oppression when more research goes into breast cancer than prostate cancer despite the higher mortality than of the latter. Or how about the efforts to combat female eating disorders while ignoring high rates of suicide among men? What could be more oppressive than death is beyond me.
You're giving examples that do support your point, but there's still a lot of issues where men have the upper hand. In many professions, women aren't taken seriously, but men are. There's entire countries where women are second if not third class citizens. When was the last time you heard a male victim of rape get blamed for his rape? When those kids raped that drunk girl, the media just focused on their lives being ruined, AS IF THEY WERE THE VICTIMS! Breast cancer gets more funding because of donations, due to good advertising. Women are cat called all the time, by all kinds of men, and are then blamed for it as if clothing choices justified it, or are told they like it. Most girls have been sexually assaulted in one way or another.
@ThreeIn - I don't think it's true that men who don't work out are close to women who don't work out. This hasn't been my experience anyway. Yes there are strong women, but in comparison to men at the same level they aren't as capable. Testosterone doesn't just affect size, it affects strength too. Women like the one you mentioned are very rare. There's a reason women need lower physical test requirements to get into jobs like the fire service and the military. Recently here in the UK new physical tests were introduced to the police force designed to mimmick real situations, and hundreds failed. 70% of them were women, so feminist claimed that the tests were sexist.
As for rape stats being unreliable because a lot go unreported, that's true for both genders. It's hard or maybe even harder for a man raped by a woman to report it as most people don't take it seriously. People will react as though I'm crazy to say that women rape men at almost the same rate
Ok, that could all be true. I personally haven't met many "weak" women tho. As for men being raped, a lot of them are being raped by other men. So the men are still for the most part, the bad guys here. Yes its just those assholes that rape people, but in general its still men.
Yeah many men get raped by men, but the stats I posted below were of men being forced to penetrate by women, in almost equal numbers to women being raped by men. This is what I mean, even you yourself have trouble believing that women can rape men at anywhere near the rate that men rape women, and that's why it's just as hard/harder for men raped by women to report it.
Why are you guys so afraid of the word oppression, its odd.
Oppression is the word in the post , so it is the word im asking about.
I have noticed most people saying 'its too strong' a word, are defning it in their explanation, of how its too strong a word to se to explain the current state of things.
I just saw like the 25 th people describing oppression while trying to make an argument for how its too strong a word... Do you guys sit in a room somewhere copy each others notes lol
C'mon people. You either believe it or you don't. Don't say you don't, then go describing it using any other word... like 'nature' lmao.
A Rose by any other name wouldst smell as sweet. Shit stinks no matter what you call it. Oppression doesn't go ay bc you dont like the word.
It also does not in any place say 'victim'. You can be oppressed and be strong.. thats usually how it works. oppressed fight back. which im guessing accounts for all the defensiveness... and utter lack of accountability.
"I did not do it" "I did not feel it" "I did not see it"
So what. Does that mean that 'it' does not exist, or that 'it' is acceptable. Or does it just mean there are a lot of cowards out there. Who would rather point fingers than work together to solve a problem. W/e you 'call' it. 'It' exists.
No one gender is oppressed in modern society. Well, kinda, but we are both oppressed in different ways. For example, a women could get a man locked up for a long time just by saying that he sexually harassed her, no proof needed. Also, in cases of divorce, men always get screwed over the worst. I know this from my own personal experience. I can't really think of any specific examples of how women are oppressed, but I'm sure there are some out there.
I think women are coming out of that era now tbh. I think more and more women are getting into leadership positions and for example where I work all of the managers/supervisors are female currently but that changes all the time. So to answer your questions I think times have changed and culture is changing all the time
do i ever feel oppressed? hmm… no not really, simply because i know how to deal with men in a way that doesn't provoke them to oppress me. i also make it very clear that it isn't something i tolerate. now I'm not American but i think the existence of feminism is healthy. its like a constant reminder that women aren't less than men, and that we have really come to show how capable we are through our presence in then work force and even in a physical sense.
Right now they're actually sending death threats to Detroit where the international conference for Men's issues will be held this month. I can't call that healthy when they have sent so many to the point where they needed to raise thousand's of dollars in security costs just to allow it to continue.
Uh fuck no that's bullshit. Oppression of women? Lmfao another crap ass scheme. Feminism is just reverse oppression. Be what you are and be proud but don't go spilling that slander.
Men evil rapist? Funny stuff. That's the same attitude people had on blacks Mexicans jews and natives. Some serious prejudice BS right there
When I was 9 I got molested by 2 high school girls. But men only.do that stuff right?
It just depends on some ppl. If they were brought up and raised well with good parents and in a good socio-economic environment where both genders ' strengths respected. I can't see the need to feel oppression. I see that question of yours are for those living in us. 😏
Feminism today in the USA is simply some women playing the victim card to explain why they are failures in life, or an attempt to get freebies from men.
Do men oppress women? Generally no. I still think there are issues related to equality that need to be addressed but it's. It as bad as it used to be.
Of course, there are rapists (not rapers for the other answer, seriously, grammar is important) but beyond that, there are still abrasive relationships and other issues.

It doesn't look good for humanity. I think for the most part (in America anyway) Men are more oppressed, but in the world overall women are still oppressed the most. It's beginning to seem as if oppression is an inevitable part of society no matter who's getting oppressed, someone must be. I'm sure someone will vehemently disagree with me, only to be guilty of oppression soon after...
Yes I do but minorities are still oppressed, gays are still oppressed, immigrants are still oppressed, Jewish and Muslim people are still oppressed, people with disabilities are still oppressed there is so much oppression in America and we will never stop it. There will always be hatred and racism and sexism and homophobia and there will always still be oppression even in America
As it is now, yes a bit, but no more then guys, people should focus more on gender equality rather then feminism (and don't say feminism GENERALLY is about gender equality)

your a meaner.. jk (:
arghhh!
Lol you have my many apologies:)
The irony on this is that I bet more than half the women on this site can't even explain to me what 21rst century feminism is all about lol
In fact, I don't think any of those whinny, short-haired women know what's going on.
In the case of feminism, you're "favouring" a single sex (women) - is that really equality? Sadly it isn't, what we need is HUMANISM...

50 years ago women were fighting for rights.
Now, women are always right.
