Why do strangers know my name?

So I've been in college for a week , joined a few orientations , made some friends know a few names , but since then I've noticed I'm catching quite a few random looks from people and people whom I have NOOO idea who she / he is knowing my name coming by and saying "Hiiiiiiii"

I'm not sure what I did or what I said but this is starting to get uncomfortable REALLY REALLY fast to the point which I'm getting some random guy inviting me to his dorm to smoke some greenies and get high.

Now I LIKE to make new friends but people knowing me before I know them is border-lining on creepy...

What would you do , cos I'm feeling a bit paranoid right now.

But but butttt noooooooo I'm shyyy ok... maybe not shy but this feels so weeeird it's like what I tell someone is circulating all across the campus and before I even talk to someone , she/he already knows tons about me.

What I'm saying is...
Too many random encounters.

I could be having breakfast at the canteen and then I'll have to spit everything out to greet someone I don't know who he/she is or what do they want.

I could be walking to the mailroom and then the guy working there will know my name , and my zodiac and do fortune telling as I wait for my parcel.

Back where I'm from people usually goes.

I don't know , it's just that for some reason my name goes REALLY REALLY far for some reason.
As in it takes 2 days for the cafeteria ladies to know me by name... and I don't even eat at the cafeteria.

Oh it's bad.
People are inviting me out to clubbing and yacht party and matchmaking and stuff.

I'm a shut-in , I like staying in to watch netflix , go to the pub for a chat , maybe browse a bookstore or two , or maybe watch a play with 1-2 mates.

Lol, I can relate. A lot of people seem to know who I am at my school too. But I literally don't talk unless I'm spoken to first, which is almost never. Just figure out a way to use this to your advantage! Surely everyone knowing you can help you get some awesome opportunities that'll help you with your degree
