I'm an avid snowboarder and I'd love to learn how to surf. But I have an unnatural fear of sharks.

what's swordplay? that sounds fun!
- +1 y
I've only done swordplay in the bathroom in high school with some guys from the foosball team
- +1 y
I practice sword fighting, different forms. I have an old tire that I swing various weapons at. I also challenge virtually any one who comes over to a sword fight, we have 4 practice weapons, 2 display pieces and an antique American Civil War oficers side arm and a big old two handed monster that I take out a bunch of frustration with.
- +1 y
real swords?
- +1 y
The civil war officers side arm has seen combat, the swihander (two handed monster) is "combat capable" but the most it's ever seen is the side of a tire. The other two are show only. The rest are designed for practice/play. I am also looking at buying a "combat capable" rapier sometime within the next week or two tse3.mm.bing.net/th and that one will be fun.

sooo... no?

haha, jk. looks cool. ;p
How are these pseudo sports? How do you define a sport?
36 Reply- +1 y
My definition is it have to be competitive, as in your opponent can AFFECT your score, how well you do and your overall performance.
Tennis, football, soccer, badminton, basketball etc. Your opponent can affect how well you do, and the score.
Golf, swimming, bowling, etc is more individual based. How well you do is up to you and generally isn't affect by the "opponent". - +1 y
the same as @1GuyOpinion
- +1 y
I'm talking about actual PHYSICAL effect, not what goes in your head.
But I can understand where you coming from. - +1 y
But what goes on in your head impacts the physical; there is no separation of the two and it is delusional to think so. It's the original of what we often call "choking". When your opponent can communicate with you - verbally or not - your opponents actions affect 1) your strategy and tactics and 2) your mental state which governs your physical ability. For instance, if I was bowling against a bad bowler who averages 150, then my high probability of getting 200 leads me to relax because I will likely win even if I make mistakes. However, if I was bowling against a bowler with a 250 average, my stress level goes way up because the my margin of error decreases greatly. If he bowls a bad game, I am in better shape, but if he's doing well, I'm stressed and am actually more likely to make errors so I have to focus that much more on my physical bowling so as to not make an error.
Anonymous(36-45)+1 yNo. I lift, that's about it, no time for other sports.
14 Reply- +1 y
that counts. what are you so busy with?
Opinion Owner+1 yTrying to learn new job skills so I can either get back into the workforce or start my own business. I feel really embarrassed about it, and I feel guilty doing anything that isn't career related these days. I workout, then it's back to the books.
- +1 y
embarassed about what exactly?
I'm planning to start my own business too!
Opinion Owner+1 yEmbarrassed about being unemployed. It's been 10 months, but at least I haven't just been sitting and doing nothing. It's getting harder to stay positive -_-
What kind of business are you going to try to start?

Opinion Owner+1 yI'm not actually that sure - I don't play competitively or anything, I only sort of know the rules from playing with people.

Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yWhy "pseudo", these are actual sports...
15 Reply- +1 y
there's no contact or defense.
Opinion Owner+1 yWell, they are not martial arts, but they are sports, figure skating is on the Winter Olympics, while bowling and golf are a precision sports.
- +1 y
- +1 y
But it has defense - it even has contact when one piece takes another...
Even the NCAA -the National Collegiate ATHLETIC Association has a chess championship.
