I came across this quote today and it made me kind of do a double take. It feels true and was just wanting your opinions?

Why not take the "old style' and make it NEW? I LOVE the OF prairie dresses from the late 1800's! Why not make them Modern, shorter, above the knee, with tights, or mixed fabric, with a tight, form-fitting top, but a cotton-print skirt, with tights? Might be a good 'twirling' skirt for square dancing! Maybe skip the tights, and just have some 'sassy' pants to show, when 'twirling!'

Absolutely, I have pointed this out many times. We always think we are better and wiser then the previous generation only to be proven wrong again and again.

I often wear vintage and cherry pick what I see in high street stores. I don't like a lot of current fashion in summer but A/W fashion is more likely to be what I'm comfortable in. My favourite TV show is the original series of Star Trek, and I also love older Bond films, but I love current sci fi and action films too. I'm more likely to laugh at current fashion.

im, not referring to politics or social custom just fashion. ideology must evolve but clothes dont need to.
of course sportswear as gotten much better but aa for regular clothing styles they mostly suck.

When girls talk about red lipstick being timeless. Or when people say a white t shirts and jeans is a classic good look. I think it's safe to say that people don't joke the old styles because their old, but because the style wasn't that great. Just a fad, while at the same time doing it all over again with a new fad. Some things are good, some things aren't.

I know for me when I was younger. I just really didn't give a fuck. I wore what was comfortable and would let my body move just incase my friends and I would play sports or something. I wanted to be ready for anything

True to some extent. I've learned to think not only about the problems of the old ways but also the implications of the of the new idea. The problem is that for the most part the new ideas are not properly thought through and are done in a rush to solve existing or old problems which then just creates new problems for the next generation.

I love this comment and totally agree. So much decision making is aimed at modernizing the older ways of thinking, in an attempt to catch up or meet current demands. Very little is made to consider the future, to actually resolve issues entirely as opposed to just putting a bandaid on them for now.

Kind of; I feel like people learn one possible option, and they stick with it as if that was the only possible way of doing things. This includes pretty much any and all aspects of culture and socialization, including gender relations, religions, and general interpersonal behavior and customs (such as thinking that the only way to have fun with friends is if you drink gallons of vodka so that you don't think about what you say, etc.)

I totally agree with this, for the majority of the population we tend to live in the ways we are taught to live. Without much room for experimentation or new ideas. We tend to use other people's thoughts instead of really coming to conclusions ourselves. Maybe in part because there is just so much information coming at us daily we don't have the time to adequately judge all new ideas so we rely on the whole majority knows best thing to assist us?

I would have to say it is quite true indeed. Per instance, I don't like Rock and Roll but I love rock, alternative rock, metal and some 90's early 20000's electronics. But I absolutely despise current pop and dubstep and all the other shit. But this doesn't just end with music.

Yes, I do agree with that. I have teenagers telling me what an awful person I am because I fall back on what I knew growing up. They try to change my opinion about things non-stop. I gravely dislike people that go around the Internet and real life trying to be the Tolerance Police, not even realizing for a split second that maybe *they* are the intolerant ones.

Absolutely true. Also, in a few years, the "new" trends will be old. Just look at the early 00's to now or the 90's to now. Its changed drastically in a few years.

That's because it is. People laugh at Bell bottoms but don't worry about jeggings, etc. They follow it without even caring. It shows how society bends to the mainstream.

i dont laugh at bell bottoms. i have always liked them. they are comfortable balanced and fit any shoe boot or heal. leggings are like someone was trying to get rid of a bunch of stretch jeans from the 80s and sold it as high fashion for way too much money. at least bell bottoms are honest. :)
