I believe it's absolutely true in almost all cases.
"Men age like wine, women age like milk." Do you agree or disagree?
I believe it's absolutely true in almost all cases.
lol well of course, because women are judged way more harshly on their looks than men are from day one. there are so many things a woman must have to fit an image of beauty. beauty standards in society make allowances for older, greying men, but the alternative of a women who has in reality aged just as well, does not fit the idea of beauty for women, which doesn't make allowances, generally, for anything but a youthful appearance.
the reality isn't that men age better, it's that society's standards of beauty allow men to age, but demand that women stay within a range of acceptable, relative youth. its really pretty simple.
now if you're asking about my personal opinion...as a bisexual, I see more older women who I'm attracted to than older men. no competition. that's just me.
I don't see what being successful has to do with anything. I'm pretty sure that quote is about looks. lol
if you're talking about life accomplishments, for most of history, and even still today in many places, women werent allowed to do much of anything. the fact of men being more successful in certain ways was ensured by the role women were required to play. so, again - history, politics, society, etc. come into the picture. These are key things to keep in mind. What is successful or pathetic is usually a matter of opinion. I don't find the big shots in the financial industry, who are responsible for the degradation of our global economy and profiled as regular clients of prostitution rings (while having wives and children at home) and doing drugs constantly, without remorse for anything that they've done, to be too far from "pathetic." in fact, id say they embody the word perfectly. However, they are arguably some of the most successful people in the world, depending on how you view it. Some people view the most successful celebrities as pathetic in one way or another. For example, Michael Jackson. I'm a huge fan, but many people would call him pathetic for a variety of reasons. He was still successful as sh*t.
I sense a bit of sexism behind your comments about women "degrading into something pathetic." That doesn't sound like any rational, well developed observation. It sounds like a bitter misogynist, just a bit. Especially considering that these days women kind of out perform men in schools in the general population and in some communities they are just doing better overall. In many cultures the people in general are poor, their economy is even more crippled, their countries are underdeveloped, their land is plagued by natural disaster, etc. Depending on how you view success, the vast majority of men in places like that don't do well at all. Someone who views western culture as superior could easily say, "these people degrade into something pathetic" based on factors which obviously leave them at a disadvantage and not the whole picture.
this is bound by cultural situations, absence of feminism or womens rights, history, politics, etc.
Blah, blah, blah
No I don't agree. I think it depends on the person not the gender. How well they take care of themselves determines If they look good older or not. I have seen attractive people of all ages and genders in my lifetime. There are people who look BETTER older than they do younger again, both genders. My grandparents are 57 and 59. My grandma is very attractive and looks to be in her 40s, she never smoke or drank. My grandpa looks like he's in his early 50's. Again he never smoke or drank (minus pot in his teenage years.) But he was almost 400 pounds at one point in his life so it has taken a toll on him. They aged well because for the most part took care of themselves (my grandpa lost the weight now.) I would say my grandma has aged better than him.
My grandpa and I have talked about this many times. From what he says (because he thinks he knows everything) women after the age of 40 look like smushed pumpkins. My mom, grandma, and me have a joke about it, my mom is 35 and we joke around saying "oh you have 5 years until you're a smushed pumpkin so might as well do *insert activity* while you still are attractive" Again my grandpa is a bit of a superficial guy who once sat me down and pointed off the flaws in each women of the family.
Mom- overweight, average looking
Aunt- too skinny, pale, almost 40 (but looks in her late 20s imo)
grandma- looks good for her age but again, overweight and over 40
other aunt- attractive but has a weird nose
me- overweight
Then he goes on to say his 19 year old neice is a "hottie" because she's blond and tan and has a nice chest. Then says "If you lined up all the men of the family, your stepdad, your uncle, etc. do you honestly think they would say their gfs/wives are better looking than 19 year old niece?" I almost threw up... he then tells me he was watching the show The view or whatever it was and on it they said after the age of 35 women aren't even looked at. He then proceeded to tell me that no, 35 was too young that he would say after 40 no one looks at women. Oh wow 5 years... big diff. I've talked to a lot of guys who like older women and love milfs and cougars. Hello it is a huge p*rn success!
So I don't exactly know where I'm getting at with this. Basically I think it depends on the person, not gender. And I generally avoid men who think women after 40 look like "smushed pumpkins."
No.
Let me give you an example: link
A beard makes a hell of a difference. He looks 20 years younger! ...men can cover their liner and wrinkles with facial hair, while women tend to not look good with a lot of facial hair...in general. xD
Shaggy, seemingly unkept hairstyle looks cool and unbridled on an older guy, while that same hairstyle type looks desperate and pathetic on an older woman.
See...make up doesn't help all that much, it can even make the lines more apparent so...that's a bitch.
A baby face doesn't hurt either. And it is as effective on men as it is on women.
In conclusion, men have better means of covering up their age than women do. (any plastic surgery is just cheating, so I won't even go into that) Hence you think that men look better...
Wow, women are living in a fantasy land. I mean it's not 100% true, but if you think you are going to get the same treatment from guys after 30 that you do at 19, you are kidding yourself. There are always going to be guys that like older women, just like there are guys that like really obese women, but they are certainly not in the majority, our biology is simply not designed that way because younger women are more fertile and can make healthy babies and that is represented in our attraction for them
I don't agree. sure some women don't age well but others age very well. they might no longer be sex symbols but I would have to say there are quite a few women who have year under there belt and are still very beautiful.

Best answer! This guy is 19 and has more wisdom that most his age.
so's your attitude son
Anyone with a pair of eyes can see that womeb age faster than men. I wasn't attractive in highschool cause i was fat. Started hitting the gym at 18 and by 21 i had slimmed down to a muscular body. Women all over started flocking to me after 21, but my experience with being treated badly by women before blossoming has made me more picky and i guess conteptous towards them like they are pathetic. I just want to meet a nice girl decent girl who isn't so vain.

It goes both ways.
Physically and all other planes of being.
If a guy or girl, is " all that" in their youth, and don't work to develop more than just trying to be hot, getting by on looks, using people etc - their gonna be pretty pathetic later on in life.
I think this phenomenon is often targeted at women, because we tend to be the icon of the attractive sex, have a bigger selection of available mates then men, and are forced to focus on our looks and looking good.
So it's easier for chicks to fall into that " oh I'm so pretty - and that's all I am he he " mentality than dudes.
But it's still rare even for girls, because it's more so an individual thing. One girl can be extremely beautiful, popular etc - but be the sweetest most hard working chick you've ever met. On the other hand, a girl can be extremely beautiful and turn into some canniving skanky bitch.
Ultimately, it's a personal thing.
A lot of the anonymous guys on here are bitter pathetic men who try to spite women anyway they can because they can't get a woman in real life, and blame their short comings on women as a whole.
This quote is a great example of that, because it places men in such a great positive light, while inherently bashing down the image of women with such a crude incomplete generalization.
You should take those comments with a grain of salt - because often they lack the appropriate logic to even be a legit statement.
Most women age like milk. They're the dumb whores who are single at 30 and still going to clubs and bars for one-night-stands, or the dumb 19 year olds with two kids.
Not all men age like wine... lotsa losers still living with their parents at 35.
On average... yeah, that's pretty true.
charming attitude
so you can be condescending to others to feel better about yourself? I'm sorry you're that pitiful
No. Most men do not look like George Clooney and Idris Elba when they age. I see enough balding, pot bellies and bad style to know that. It's less than 5% of men that remain handsome in their later years and even then, George Clooney was hotter in the 80s-90s than he is now.
Just like men can be late bloomers, so can women. Usually the a**holes in high school (men and female) degrade into something pathetic so don't use your bitterness in your youth to put down women as a whole down.
Really? I'm 42 and get hit on by younger guys all the time! I'm married to a hot man my age, but I look around at other guys my age and...not aging so well! What guys are you looking at? I see lots of guys with fat guts and wrinkles, and they can't even use having a baby as an excuse! I'll agree some women throw in the towel instead of taking pride in their appearance, but so do men. Not sure of your age, but your perspective will most likely change as you age. Its pretty normal when your young to not look at older people and say,"I want some of that..." I don't find 80 year old men hot...but 80 year old women do!
Wow, this is such stereotypical sexism. You say men usually age successfully, and women become pathetic? Gee. From MY observations, it's about 50/50.
Now, biologically speaking, as women age they generally become a lot more sexual. And as men age, their libido usually goes down.
The guy who asked this question probably can't get girls so he's putting us all into one category because he's bitter.
i don't agree, I think it just depends on the person and how well they took care of themselves in life. I'm 26 and without makeup I look 19 (ewwwww) I don't smoke (but I do smoke pot) hardly ever drink, take care of my skin...i know some guys my age who look 40 due to bad lifestyle choices, sun exposure, etc.
"from my observations"
so these are personal observations that are holding legitimacy? Okay, well my observations hold the opposite. As for success and being pathetic, I think a lot of men end up as criminals as they get older. I mean, just look at our jails, courts and prisons. It's full of men who are not successful, who will not be successful, and who are rather pathetic.
Since we're talking opinions, you can't properly refute mine because then it's my word over yours-- which is circular and stupid (I guess its somewhat like your pea sized brain).
I also believe that you've aged and will continue to age like an egg. Invest in a botox fund.
Not really.
Unless you'd like to enforce the standard gender roles that generally arise from myths or extreme cases, then yes.
But as you can probably see when looking objectively, almost over 45% of women over the age of 28 have at least a bachelors degrees, where men have are at 40%. And that's just one factor in aging.
He said he wasn't just talking about physical appearances.
and I'm not getting into how older women look :P I don't know enough older women personally to say if most are still really pretty, and there are no stats for that. So I'm going to say my opinion based on just more opinion.
most aging guys I've met, have hair coming off of their head and out of their ears, potbellies & bad breath. better grooming habits s a good start. getting old physically is generally no fun for anyone. staying fit physically intellectually, spiritually, emotionally--is a good idea. not being an a**hole another good one.
Well eventually we all turn into milk, but yeah, in a way that's true, women are valued for their youth and beauty while men are valued for their wisdom, strength and status, what's interesting is that it's the other way around in the gay/lesbian community, where homosexual men are usually valued for their youth and lesbian women take on the role of the "man" and are valued for their status, anyway, what I'm trying to say is it's much more complicated than that
I think men age badly...provided they don't put any creams on their face or body, the lines are just as unattractive in a guy as they are in a girl.
Old people are not attractive - we all know it.
And the creepy thing is, old guys think they can end up with young girls. . .so they try, and embarrass themselves always. (unless that's a hooker they were chatting up)
Not most of the time..
Most older men and women lose their attractiveness BUT they gain experience and wisdom.. but also men lose their libido while women gain theirs... so I don't know if I'd consider it the other way round.
But honestly there are some men who look gorgeous being old (George Clooney, Johnny Depp) but MOST men aren't in that category... TRUST me on that one.
You're right man... all of these disgruntled women have just realized their own mortality and cannot grasp that fact that the future does not favor them in terms of appearance :P
They say guys go bald... but for guys like me (who shave their heads) we're gonna look basically the same at age 70 that we already do at age 30
Most men won't lose their libido later in life either, but rest assured ALL women will become menopausal! XD
Ah, the irony of it all :)
I do. Women have until age 35 to be young after that they need work on it a bit more. They have the ability to still appear young with out crazy surgery.
Men can still keep going, just as long as they are healthy and take good care of themselves.
A lot of wine turns to vinegar. You can at least salvage milk by making butter or cheese.
If Demi Moore is aging like milk, then I'm happy to be sour milk.
For the most part, white women don't age well. Though there are exceptions (like Jane Fonda), they have to work very hard at it.
Cher looks good no? And Barbra Streisand. Tina Turner...
There is an element of truth here I suppose, if a woman and \ man both keep fit, groomed and healthy the man in most cases will out last the woman. On the flipside women live a little longer.
Its all a biological game women have their children and the job is more or less done. For men the job may never be done so you can find men looking ok untill they kick the sack. Mostly I find demoralized men age badly because a man without ambition and determination is no man at all.
But the whole "best start" for ANYONE they degrade into something pathetic - no matter gender.. Think of some guy who's popular in high-school ending up becoming a druggie loser.
Men age, women age. Women usually take better care of themselves and stay looking much younger than men do.
Do not agree at all.
. . .which is why I like my red wine spiced with a little semen now and then
laugh, straight to the point huh
