Do you believe that relationships are becoming extinct in western society?

I've seen variants of this question,
Feminism killed relationships etc.
Just looking around I honestly cannot see what the hell they are talking about.
I still see people falling in love, getting married and 50 percent of the time Divorce isn't more common because of feminism, its because its now socially acceptable and people want to actually be able to leave an unloving marriage and find the right person even then. I've seen that happen successfully plenty of times.

If Feminism brought anything, it has been more sex and higher standards for relationships.

I mean, sure, people divorced less in the past, but they stuck with things that really should have been ended. My grandparents may have been together until the very end, but they didn't talk to each other for literally the last 20 years of their lives.

I think what is changing is not relationships so much as our views towards monogamy.

We used to think monogamy was the natural order of human behavior, and anything else was a horrible crime against our nature. Even dating is far more promiscuous than things were throughout our written history. Dating and being in different relationships is a brand new concept. Like really. really. freaking. new. It is actually called serial monogamy, which is technically a type of polygyny. Have you had sex with other partners in your past? You aren't technically monogamous.

I think things really took off when we discovered bonobos (hence my picture), and when we discovered just how hypersexual they are, we went back and reexamined our own prehistory. I guarantee you nobody on this site has had the kind of sex life a hunter-gatherer has.

So yeah, I think relationships are forming and breaking far more than they used to. But that's because we are much more sexually free. We DO have feminist activism to thank for that. Amongst the many problems I have with feminism, this isn't one of them.

I find it hard to get into a proper real, traditional relationship. These days its like when you find a guy you like, you just end up fucking and just keep hooking up with each other. You may get along well and all but the boyfriend girlfriend status just isn't there, even though it could be, people are just too afraid these days of the relationship status.

My partner and I aren't necessarily in a boyfriend girlfriend relationship, even though we've been with each other for almost 8 months now. I don't want it and he doesn't want it cause we want to keep the drama levels low.

So yes, I guess relationships are going extinct now that hook up culture is becoming more acceptable.

Yes, very much so. Look at the rise in singleness and single parenthood over the past 50 years, i. e. since the beginning of 'women's liberation.' I'd say it's only going to continue, because the forces that drive these trends are becoming stronger.

Women have the same economic power today as men. In fact, in many ways, women have surpassed men, in numbers of college degrees earned and earning power among 20-somethings. Given this, and given women's very occasional need for sex, they have little incentive to enter into relationships with men who are anything less than ideal.

Obviously, this creates a problem. Ideal men are difficult to come by, and most women, being far from ideal themselves, aren't able to attract the sort of mate they demand. The result of this conundrum is that a small cohort of men is sought after my the vast majority of women. These men, obviously, have no reason to settle with any one woman, so relationships become difficult to form even for the proverbial haves.

There will always be serious relationships between people, but I do believe they will become increasingly rare as society continues to evolve and people become increasingly isolated from one another.

The goal of the Cultural Marxist hate movement known as Feminism was to undermine Western Civilisation by poisoning relations between men and women.
The goal was to undermine the family unit and to cause few white babies to be born. Other races have been affected, but they were collateral damage, rather than the intended target.

Relationships are not becoming extinct and I don't see how the blame falls on feminism, when relationships depend on two inviduals in that relationship (unless Poly or Open relationships). I have no liking for feminism myself but blaming feminism would do nothing when they have nothing to do with it.

Actaully over 90% of men say they want to get married, of course even if they don't get married they still live together ie a relationship. Relationships aren't becoming extinct its just they don't last. As to why that's exactly what researchers are trying to figure out and there are many opinions.

Only thing I agree partially on is the divorce rate, over 70% initiated by women. But it also could be men are more reluctant because they lose half their crap and the kids, something women have no worries about.

So like I said its not that relationships are becoming extinct but simply we don't work on them to have lasting relationships.

The only thing I wish people would do is stop citing the divorce rate. It's fucking ignorant. That's like citing the diabetes rate and acting like it randomly happens. Your odds of divorce go down the older both people are, the more educated, the more money made, etc.

Now why do I say that in answer to this question? Because it's what fuels this question; myths and ignorance are the standard behind the idea that anything, and really everything, is dying. This is what a Dark Age is like: Knowledge and information everywhere but no one willing to read it despite all having the ability to. :/

divorce has actually been at a high rate for some time now. I belive that it's because people don't get married for the right reasons, rush into it, and expect it to be perfect and completley conflictless.

This isn't like the 1950's with people falling in love left and right, hence the baby boom. This is the new generation, when women are far much demanding and harder to please.
