I don't think it's usually intentional, honestly. But I do think that attractive people attract more attention. They're more noticable. An attractive person may get served first in a line simply because they stood out more. Dunno, just my two cents.
Yeah, I KNOW I treat attractive people better. I've given jobs to guys (and girls) who are in shape as opposed to carrying a few too many pounds, because there is a certain image I want my company to project.
Forgetting common courtesy is pretty douchy though, genuinely decent people will hold doors and help a woman carry a heavy suitcase out of principle, regardless of what she looks like.
That's an easy one, but guys don't have it much harder, since a man's opinion is still seemingly valued more than a woman's. I'm sure and I still get paid fairly well. Life is generally harder on less attractive women, and the gender of your boss may also matter.
Even as it were and that preferential treatment that goes to those who are more attractive, doesn't make it right. As it is though, looks are waaaay too important for Bussiness, but in more social feilds where face to face interactions occur, people often, select more attractive people to promote the bussiensss.
For me and my job or even in life I don't care what people look like. If they treat me like shit I'll still be nice to them albeit a little more rough when giving needles and things because I can (and because I have to be nice) so... everyone's different but yes it very much exists and only petty people behave that way. Everyone deserves to be treated equally unless they give you a reason not to.
Of course it's true. That's mostly why anyone even bothers to put effort into looking good. Looks are first impression in almost anything we do. Our society is as superficial as ever. It's also true that certain things we can do to look better are just healthier for us such as diet and exercise but I do think our prime motivation is to be treated better and give ourselves our best chances. Personality, intelligence, and skills also help us but not across the board as looks I would say.
I think there are some societal advantages, but I know it also has a LOT to do with your personal presence and confidence. Are available, I know a woman who weighs 500 pounds and has guys chasing her all the time. She is a lawyer, she is recognized as a leader in the community, and is smart and funny. I don't think she's very attractive, but somehow she walks into a room and people pay attention to her and respect her.
I definitely believe so. However, attractiveness is NOT always looks. People with great personality, charisma, good posture, and friendly are attractive as well. Double points is they are good looking on top of that.
to MyTake owner, become more awesome of a woman and you too can be super attractive!!
Of course they are. I'm speaking for myself! It's been plenty of times my son has received free food etc based on how I look plus the fact he looks exactly like me helped! It's funny when you at a gas station filling up and a guy is pulling in with his girl in a beat up car, and he sees how you look plus the 7 series you driving and parks as far away from you so his woman won't look at you, but she sees you from afar and watches you go inside the store and she so happens to get out the car and goes inside as well lol..
yes forsure. On days i look more dolled up, hair done, make up done, nice outfit, smell great etc. it kind of freaks me out by the attention from people. i'd just be standing there minding my business and people will be like "you seem lost do you need help" or stop you to ask a question or compliment. when it's totally obvious they have ulterior motives
but that barely happens on days i'm don't make the effort to look good.
You want to impress attractive people, because you either want to be associated with them (if you spend time with attractive people, you seem more desirable) or you want to impress them because you want to look like a good potential partner, subconsciously and consciously. Also, in a lot of businesses, attractive people are considered more professional in appearance and more approachable.
By 'attractive', think 'wealthier'. It's not because a girl is objectively pretty it's because she's dressed expensively, expensive hairdo, jewelry, drives up in an expensive car, has had plastic surgery.. etc.
Even more true for a guy. He's treated better if he looks like money, even if he's 100lbs overweight, compared to a handsome guy in T-shirt and jeans.
Honestly, I'm afraid there is some influence of a persons' looks on how they are treated. Which does certainly not mean that everyone acts like this. I also doubt that showing lots of thigh or cleavage would have a big influence on exam results. Possibly even a negative influence. We're all, to some degree, sensitive to a nice looking and smiling person sitting in front of us. That's human.
There is no doubt that this is true. But this is a case where you can not blame the person benefiting from this since they are not forcing anyone to treat them better. It's the fault of all of us.
Ever since improving my image several years ago (haircut, skin, physique) I have been more succesfull in life ranging from jobs to friendships and relationships.
It's a fact that is denied to quell public outcry. Most jobs nowadays look at presentablity rather than skills.
No, that's absolutely not true about the house. I am manager and I've been interviewing people for several months and we have had plenty of good looking people who were not qualified but we did not offer them a job. The most irritating thing is people who expect you to give them a job based on their personality/looks when they don't have the required skills. They think they can just smile and fake their way through an interview and get hired.
Yes, but diplomacy and presentability have nothing to do with genetics which is what I thick of as defining beauty. They have to do with knowledge, speaking skills, confidence, and good grooming.
Most engineers I know spend the majority of their time in an office. Yes, they're presenting to clients at meetings but it's not like they're out facing the public every day like a bank teller. That's what I meant.
Also, you're assuming that there are tons of qualified candidates for every job. Maybe there are in London, but here in Philadelphia we always pick the most qualified person. That's what matters.
Yes, definitely. I find people act a lot differently toward me when I go out freshly cleaned up and in neat clothing than when I haven't washed my hair or just did a long bike ride and are all unkempt. So it stands to reason that people who have a more naturally pleasing appearance will be treated better than the unappealing.

YES.. I am sexy and get anything I want. Its awesome! LOL
Must be nice
yeah of course they do. I can tolerate them much more than a ugly person who is being the same level of annoying.
Haha at least you're honest
I remember seeing a study that found even babies display biases towards people with attractive faces.
Damn, even babies are tainted with the pursuit of beauty? Lol
Apparently 😅
There is no doubt that this is true. But this is a case where you can not blame the person benefiting from this since they are not forcing anyone to treat them better. It's the fault of all of us.
Of course they are. They also get far more lenient court sentences.
Oh I forgot to add that one
In all honesty yes.
Ever since improving my image several years ago (haircut, skin, physique) I have been more succesfull in life ranging from jobs to friendships and relationships.

"About the jobs". Stupid voice texting.
@Turquoise46 you kind of have a point but you misunderstood me.
Noadays in most jobs, especially the skilled ones like banking, engineering or law choose the better presentable candidates out of the qualified lot.
I don't think so, especially not in jobs where you aren't dealing with the public like engineers. Bank tellers, yes.
I know some pretty unattractive but very successful lawyers!
@Turquoise46 I don't know where you're from but here it's like that in london.
Also engineers have to deal with clients too, as well as suppliers. It's like banking now. Diplomacy and present ability goes a long way

@Turquoise46 comparing your city and London is wrong. It's the equivalent of comparing a lion to a rat in the animal kingdom.
The only city in the world that can rival London is New York or Paris.
Well enjoy that lion shit you're standing in, then.
And New York sucks, frankly
@Turquoise46 so does London.
