Should anti-tattoo/ piercing discrimination be illegal?

No, I don't think people who choose to do things like that to their bodies should be a protected class when it comes to employment law. Unlike a protected class like race for example, where a person cannot choose the color of their skin, people who pierce and tattoo themselves are making a conscious choice to that. And they want those modifications to be visible. Employers have perfectly legitimate reasons for not wanting to hire people who present themselves in a way that would reflect poorly on their business. And that is especially so in jobs where the employee interacts with the public.
No, businesses are privately owned and they have every right to decide what is and is not acceptable. To state otherwise is to descrimninate against them. If they want to present a certain image then they have every right to do so, after all its their business not yours, not the governments, not the person with tattoos. Do I think its a bit over the top? sure, but if that's what they want to do then its their right. If the government can tell them to ignore their values for you, then that give the government the right to tell you to ignore your values for them.
Nope. Some businesses want to provide a professional image to their customers and no matter what you say, body modifications don't exude that image. If a company doesn't want someone with visible tattoos and ear gauges representing their brand, I think that's perfectly fair and up to them.
If people want to get body modifications, that's fine, but be wary of the consequences.
I'm a tattoo/piercing enthusiast but i feel that employers can set their own standards of the type of image they'd like to present. If one doesn't like it, don't apply to work there.
I've had to cover up tattoos/remove jewelry before for work. It's really not that big of a deal. Lol

I can't believe morons getting facial tattoos and turning their faces into a pin cushion never thought about how it would affect future employment. You think the chairman of the board of say 3M would be looking like that? You think anybody would ever get an executive position looking like that? You'll never prove it was the piercings or tattoos that prevented them from being hired or promoted
It really depends on the job and the body mod. If you're working in health care or in my case with animals a piercing that can get caught on something or is somewhere that can get infected easier. It shouldn't be allowed, same goes with tattoos, if someone wants them it's fine, but if the content is something that causes tension, like a severed head or a religious symbol it wouldn't be such a good idea. As for it being "legal" it should be left up to the company what's allowed and what isn't
No. Because there is a professionalism involved. If you get turned by a job because you have tattoos, you probably are not right for that job, "power plant engineer" for example.
No one will turn down a person applying for "tattoo artist" position, because person has tattoos.
i work for TSA at the airport, and recently the union was able to fight for the officers to allow us to display tattoos as long as the tattoo is not offensive to other people (as judged by management). i think that should apply for all jobs. as long as there's no guns, swastikas, "fuck the police" type of tattoos, they should be allowed to display them
Yes. I'm tatted like a mofo and respect any employers who feel my tatts represent their company in a bad light. My principal insists I wear long sleeves. Its her right. I can always leave if I don't like it.
"Should they get it? Why or why not?"
No, snowflakes should not get it.
Why not? Because the owner of a business is a private entity and they should have the right to reject or fire anyone the hell they want for any reason they want.
I don't care about tattoos with my employees I even have a couple I can easily hide by wearing a t shirt on the other hand a wouldn't want my neurosurgeon covered head to toe in tats ether
I think all discrimination should be legal to be honest. If gender quotas and race quotas which is basically also discrimination then full blown discrimination should be allowed also.
sorry but no one wants to be served coffee by Darth maul
fuck being a male with long hair is challenge enough luckily with all the fags and trans shit they have to hire based on anti discrimination but everyone draws the line at living snake man being hired

Are you a poshos? Where do you go for coffee that's served by people without tattoos and piercings?

Never been inside a Starbuck's.
Nah, it's just not acceptable at certain positions, you would end up losing customers, etc. Try covering it up during work hours.
No. A private business may discriminate for any reason they choose and you may choose not to shop there if you disagree.
Jobs have the right to do its the law an it's cuz appearance helps ani agree
Don't be so pathetic.
Haha, Just live in Nz, Learn about actual freedom.
That... Already IS illegal.
At least in Australia.
I mean if you had visible body mods you ARE less likely to be hired but they won't not hire you for your mods they will find some other fault with you and pick another candidate.
they will win that for sure
they should be allowed to work
who cares
it already is.
no it's shouldn't
