I don't think so, that time period was sexist, the woman was actually portrayed as a strong independent character, who really didn't give a rats ass what men wanted from her, but at the same time was able to play that sexism against them. Honestly it's still a reoccurring theme today.
History is sexist. To portray historical events or situations accurately is not sexist regardless of whether the content was sexist, it's merely accurately portraying a story
No. Why would anyone think that?
In fact, I thought it was trying a little too hard to push the 'Hey, I'm a girl and I like science!!' vibe in the first act.
I mean when it said: "no dogs, no women" a bit hurted me...
But that joke was made as a reference to the time period the movie is set in. That line exists for the sole reason of giving the protagonist something to overcome.
Nobody heard that line was like "Ha, it's funny because women ARE equal to dogs! Hurrhurr!"
Yeah, but the thing is that in some countries, this is still the case. Movies like that don't help
@jimyee you're right.. that's why I asked the question; I have no opinion yet..
@Hannah591 and that was mean and unfair so I don't think that we should make movies about that
Never watched it. I have only heard bad opinions on the movie but not that it was sexist but boring... why sexist?
I'm not saying that it is, but it said some mean things and compared women to dogs...
Ok. Thanks for explaning.
Sure☺️
The movie is based in the 1500s so if it was... how u gonna get mad at historical acurracy, thats like me saying do u think the movie, "the green mile" or "glory" or "freedom writters" was racist... duh its supposed to be, but the movie wasn't sexist anyway
Most movies these days especially Disney are sexist... against men.
@maiave Read this take.

@maiave Did you click it or copy paste it... clicking it works. If you copy paste it, it won't because G@G truncates it.

Crap even that got truncated.
That's a very interesting take and I do see what you mean. In an attempt to balance the gender representation Disney went a little bit extreme in one direction. I like to think once they finish trying to make up for the lack of female hero's they'll balance out again because honestly I do love a good male lead.
Disney does have some good movies with male representivite, just not a lot. Big hero 6 (one of my personal favourites), zootopia (the female office is a mess while the male is sly and confident), the boxtrolls (he wanted I don't remember this movie well but I'm pretty sure the male is stronger than the female in this one), how to train your Dragon (I believe he's a little disheveled at first but he gets his sh*t together and that's what it's all about right?), the jungle book (he's just a kid but male), and more.
I think it's mostly Disney Princess movies where the men have become excluded because they're targeted towards little girls who want to see women save the day. Sure, it doesn't mean the men have to be a mess but I think they do it for comic relief and don't realize the lack of strong male characters. I agree it would be nice to see a Disney princess and the male work together in an equally badass manner

People would say that they are erasing the sexism women faced during that time period if the men in the movie weren't being sexist. There's no way to win.
They're pirates.. do you think pirates give any thought of the word sexist? They rape, plunder, and pillage.
Not exactly.
It's fucking annoying how much they beat you over the head with how amazing and capable the girl is and how 'everyone is trying to keep her down but she's just too dang strong and independent.'
Groan.
Oh stop it lol
If it is. It's better like that
Movies that try to be to politically correct lose some of that fantasy aspect
Ugh. I haven't watched it but I bet it isn't sexist.
It's cheesy and a total cash grab to "apologize" for Stranger Tides.
Stupid yes. Sexist no. Keira Knightley is like a man with zero boobs. Far from your stereotype of a sexy woman
The movie is historically accurate for the time period. (In the sense you are referring to) so no not at all
This is the dumbest question I've seen today. Besides you know... All the perv ones.
Why? I want to know what others think
Any educated person knows why things were done or said the way they were in that movie for the related time period. That's like saying Mulan was sexist.
Are you trying to imply something?
I know how things were but don't get why people want to "live" it again
Lol it's for entertainment purposes. Don't take life so seriously. #imadebrownies
No its not elzabeth swan is a great female charcter.
How on earth is it sexist?
I don't necessarily think that it is, but that no dogs, no women sign was kind of mean
i'm just amazed people still watch these movies
There's a sucker born every minute.
Why won't that series die already?
I didn't realize they kept it going
They still make them?
I don't believe in sexism
Are you British?
