I think it's more about personality and maturity; if anything.
When you're young your morals are all messed up and you don't really know what you want from life. So I guess it makes more sense to be shallow and follow trends etc. It's probably easier.
Having said that you have grown a** men in their 30's "flexin" on Instagram, following trends and posting #goals pictures so they can remain relevant.
My personal favourite trend is the "you don't own air pods. I don't speak broke."
Ok.
Many are but it truly just depends on the person.

I think anyone can be shallow, regardless of their age
Some older people are more concerned about money than younger people and they'd do anything to get a promotion in their workplace, including backstabbing or cheating
In fact, it's college age kids who don't care about money, they might live in a dorm or wear second-hand clothes and they're OK with it.
The younger you are, the less concerned you are about money. Babies just nap and sleep all day and are happy exploring every little corner of the place they are
I'd say it has to do with how you grew up too and if your parents spoiled you
Yes, very much so.
But it is natural for their age. The human brain is not fully developed until the mid-20's.
I am 42 now. When I was 20 I thought a knew everything. But in 22 years I have been through my fair share of pain ranging from physical and mental, financial , being accused of things I did not do , many heart breaks , etc. I would say that , for what ever reason I am resilient. These many experiences where painful at the time but at the end of the day they serve to toughen you up.
When I look at these younger kids , say early 20's and I listen to their conversations it sounds shallow and child-like to my ears. But then I remember there was a time I was like that too.
Life has a way of kicking the shit out of you and letting you fall flat on your face. It's up to you to get up though.
The human brain doesn't fully develop until your mid 20s, but 90 percent of your brain development happens before age five. This means that the remaining ten percent take 20 years to develop.
So, in all actuality, there is virtually no difference between a 20, and a 25 year old when it comes to this subject. Chances are, a 20 year old has a brain which is developed at 99 percent, and a 25 year old at 100 percent (virtually no difference).
Sorry, I just had to clear that up.
@EnglishArtsteacher
I think not:
"Brain development continues for an extended period postnatally. The brain increases in size by four-fold during the preschool period, reaching approximately 90% of adult volume by age 6 (Reiss et al. 1996; Iwasaki et al. 1997; Courchesne et al. 2000; Kennedy and Dehay 2001; Paus et al. 2001; Kennedy et al. 2002; Lenroot and Giedd 2006). But structural changes in both the major gray and white matter compartments continue through childhood and adolescence, and these changes in structure parallel changes in functional organization that are also reflected in behavior."

Brain volume and brain development are not the same thing.
At 25 years old, I tend to agree with that statement, it is one of the reasons I am not even interested in talking to most younger people these days.
Younger people nowadays feel like they are disconnected from the real work in my opinion, they are influenced by social media too easily.
That they are, if the media tells them it is a certain way, then most of them believe it.
So then you have young people who generally like the same things, do the same things and act the same ways, individuality is hard to come by among them, sort of makes me feel like an outsider sometimes.
Are you 25 or 23? Lol
@gothgirl997
I am 25 and will be turning 26 late this year, the number above is incorrect.
Yes, casual sex hook ups are not just more visible but more in terms of volume than ever before, the same generation may lose upon meaning and opportunity too be in a meaningful relationship (which is to share rather than extract pleasure out of it) when they grow.
More material coming in the world and peer pressure, social media, young people are more image concious than ever before hence more egoistic. Unfortunately everything is looking for validation desperately
That's pretty much a fact, no contest. Young people are still full of folly and have no mind to see beyond simple pleasures, quick thrills, sarcasm, and irresponsibility.
Yes, I do agree. And being shallow would refer here to being more self-centric and less considerate towards others than people were earlier. And major reason I find for this is the sense of competition and lesser time to accomplish an Everest in life.
Yes but it's understandable why. They still don't understand well what's more meaningful in life than just looks.
I tend to agree that they are self absorbed, but adults are very much capable of this too and teenagers are typically more focused on having fun rather than anything of substance. So I don't know of shallow is the correct term to use.
I Think all ages are very shallow in different ways. Teenagers and young adults go often for how a person looks and talks shit about people. Adults Only wanna date someone with a lot of money often and are stuck in their own old research so they have a hard time with the New one
Yes, but it's not their fault. They are in the prime of their life and they have big goals and dreams. So it's not at all unnatural for them to have very high standards for a mate. They haven't been worn down yet. They haven't yet "learned" to settle.
I think it depends on how they're raised. Some patents are very shallow.
Every decade is shallow. And no. Some are actually more realistic. But many can be. I have met many people in their late 20s, 30s, 40s and is very shallow.
People have always been shallow. Not much has changed. Adults aren’t much different then teens in that way
More shallow than who? People of the same age of past generations or older folks? I said "no" only because I thought of the past generations' teenagers and young adults.
I think old people are more stuck in traditions and consider us shallow
It's not about tradition to consider someone shallow or not. Being shallow might refer here to being more self-centric and less considerate towards others than people were earlier. And major reason I find for this is the sense of competition and lesser time to accomplish an Everest in life.
Yes my brother is shitty and thinks he owns the world, which is one of the reasons to why i hate him and wish he wasn't my brother
Lol wow
@Jamie05rhs
Lol what
I mean, like, I understand your sentiments, but I just thought the way you said that was a little harsh. So that's why I laughed.
You're fine. I'm sure you had a reason to vent, so I'm not begrudging you of that. Besides, you know your brother much better that any of us, seeing as we don't know him at all and you have to live with him on a daily basis. So maybe he is as bad as you say he is. We'll have to take your word for it- haha.
I understand. I had a feeling that was the case (that you were upset when you wrote it.)
You share the same birthday? Does that mean you're twins? Or were you born on the same day but different years?
Hm. I think both can be really shallow, but teenagers more as they are still developing.
Yes. They are not still matured. Their thinking is narrow.
More shallow than what?
Typically yes I think I'm a ton more shallow then my oldest sister
Yeah.
Hell, even at my age, I feel a constant feeling of "too old for this shit" when I'm around my peers.
Yes most definitely.. Even the way they/we view relationships is shallow..
Of course. Depth comes from experience and learning, and they haven't had long enough to achieve it, for the most part.
Very shallow most of them and become less shallow as they grow older but that is not the case with all of them. Some women stay shallow forever.
Is there a point to argue.
they are ALL self absorbed.
Yes, by default. The rational part of the brain isn't developed until we're around 27.
It is more that they are just really stupid and it leads to be being shallow it is easy to be conceited when you have not lived life I found that out quick
Yes. Many of them are because they are not experienced in life enough.
It's called secondary narcissism. They care too much about what other people think if them. It's a perfectly normal stage of human development.
Not all of them but in general of course. Egocentrism declines with age.
People in their 20s and late 20s are
I always see skinny teens dating an overweight partner where someone much older always say that fat people don’t deserve any love
I don't think so, they just may be less subtle about it compared to older people.
depends on the person
No. I think they can be very empathetic.
@NovissimumVirorum at least we both like the Donald...
I'm neutral about him, I just really don't like teenagers
@NovissimumVirorum you and I are opposites. A lot of my online friends are teenagers.
Me too, but they're not like the average teenager
@NovissimumVirorum very true
@CarpetDenim for example is basically a 90year old grandma
@NovissimumVirorum she is a moralist at heart. But so are you.
I only pretend to be moral
@NovissimumVirorum you’re monogamous. That’s more than a lot of guys.
ummmm, sure...
@NovissimumVirorum need to go to Confession, Novi? 😈
No, I don’t agree with that
teenagers are young adults
Oh how naive you are
Haha
Of course--most of us were at that age
You tell me, are you?
all looks with me I don't care about anything else
Why would we be?
They are idiotic and shitty
On average, yes
