I'm struggling to understand why people are so desperate to be like those you see on reality TV shows. Is it just the (fake) lifestyle that they want? Or something else? Me personally I despise reality TV and the people who feature on it, I think it's a social cancer that has to go. Honestly curious to hear your opinions whether you enjoy it or not?

I dont watch tv. I mean it not like those people could care about me any more than I could to them.
The saddest part is these people know more about reality tv than thier neighbors next door.

a stranger next to them struggles with life. And people can so easily pretend not to see anything. I find it saddening and baffling.
Maybe people hate reality so much they have to find life in lies through fake tv. Seem like that easier to do than having to deal with "real" life I guess
Life seems to be getting harder whether or not that's true. Well as someone who has struggled with depression and anxiety issues these can only cause these conditions to rise in the general population giving them false Hope's of what they need to be
I remember when love island first came out and people took the piss out of it. Now it seems to have done a U-turn. You couldn't be more right in there are more important issues in the world, but people are more interested in who fucked who.
What are the values of today's society? God, the king, honour, truth, family, nation? No... Money replaced God, a stupid celebrity like Kim Kardashian became the supreme authority above us, fandom replaced honour, celeb gossips became the truth, instagram followers became the family, TV and social medias became the nation.
These are the actual values of today's society. No high ideals, just cheap entertainment instead.
I honestly think the decline of organised religion has something to do with it.
There's some quote that runs along the lines of 'Take away people's gods, and they will raise up their own new gods'. Feels like that applies to this kind of thing, to me.
Very interesting theory and I love that quote. I'm sure there are multiple factors as to why with social media and accessible technology being massive influences.
I don’t idolize those people, but I used to watch some of the shows. When I was in like high school and college I liked watching The Hills and The City. I didn’t care the least about the story though. I just liked watching for the fashion. I liked Lauren’s and Whitney’s cute outfits. Never cared to watch the Kardashians.
I don't, I F*CKING HATE THEM! Seriously, getting famous for giving someone a BJ, if it was that easy half the bishes I went to school with would be in all the magazines. I hate how everyone wants to look like those malproportioned freaks. If you can use balance a champagne flute on your ass cheeks without even trying then you gotta get your priorities in check -.- dammit I'm just mad, I don't mean to discriminate but I hate them dickheads so much.
I didn't see any discrimination and understand your frustration that someone who can't count to ten is a multimillionaire for a sex tape. Then they continue to photoshop themselves 24 hours to appear perfect
I guess it is for the same reason why they idolize celebrities like actors and singers, they want to be like them. Other times I think it's because of their lifestyle, it helps them to forget about their problems.
Honestly tired of seeing attractive young girls thinking their not good enough because of these fucking idoits on TV. I've seen young girls ruin their lips with cheap implants and strive to look plastic to mimic these false idols. I personally dont understand it, and I dont think these plastic TV stars look even remotely attractive. I wish people would just strive to be themselves again and not worry so much about what the public thinks... especially since the public is dumb and their opinions are trash

A LOT of Instagram thots certainly do... you can tell because they all look like the Kardashiand with their fake buttocks and botox lips.
For some reason their belief in what "a good life" means is skewed. They think living a good life is swimming in undeserved money and getting plastic surgery.
Simply put, because they're stupid. Stupid people like stupid people. That's the reason why world renowned theoretical physicists don't get the same widespread reception and fanfare from your average idiot; there are far more idiots than smart people.
Furthermore, intelligent people don't throw a raucous fit whenever they see a famous intellectual because that's simply not how intelligent people tend to behave.
Real life can be harsh and tv stars provide distraction and escape because their lives seem to be all about makeup and money and glamorous stuff rather than pooping and worrying about bills and zits like normal people.
I can see where your coming from, lifes tough for pretty much everyone whereas on the surface these clowns seem to have their lives together which couldn't be any farther from the truth, which can only point to a lot of depressed people watching these shows?
9 out of 10 times I meet people that like Kardashian and stuff like that, they are so stupid. So I aften do a small test when I try to figure out of there will be a second date. I ask them 4 questions 1. What you think about the Kardashian, 2 top favourite food, 3 top music bands and 4 top movies. Depending on their answers I will know for sure if there is a future or not.
I used to like one of them in the reality shows not because of her personality as shown in the shows but for her real life personality. Other than that i dont idolize them. I have many idols but it isn't necessary that they should be a celebrity.
We watch them going through things and feel like we understand them emotionally and intellectually, we feel close to them like we never felt to somebody else before, we don't wanna let it go. This could be somebody watching William Wallace in Brave Heart, becoming a christian, finding their career or a teenager watching Kim Kardashian. What looks cringey is the mass behavior, even Brave Heart fan meetings.
The Kardashians have all of that, which many girls want. Even if these girls don't want to BE the Kardashians. They do want what they have. Easy lifestyle, great looks and a certain level of status in society.
Do you think it's just easier to imitate these idiots because they have certain attainable physical attributes? Rather than objects (cars, clothing, jewellery) which require in some cases vast amounts of money to acquire?
I understand on the surface they seem perfect but it's all a front/fake, their lives are an act. I'm sure some people can see it's fake but something still appeals to them.
People idealize everyone even fictional character, they need someone to look up to, someone who they want to be similar to. I can't say why but many people are like that especially young people.
I most definitely support any tv as I have not owned one in well over a decade. I find that most people have no opinion less it's based on such tv programmes.
Probably because they live unsatisfying lives and have to achieve fulfilment by living vicariously through the shallow lives of people more attractive and richer than themselves.
Because the older I got I saw that there are some people, like police officers, firefighters, and military actually serve a purpose instead of flaunting a fake ass around. Then they just seemed disgraceful
Because in their fake lives (which is shown on tv) people see some kind of success and freedom and they don’t realize that they’ve got more problems than us
For one I really wanted to be like jenelle in teen mom , because she stands up to people in her life , she's not a doormat... and her whole life her mom wanted to keep her down , but she's living a good life now. I think everyone wants to be rich and glam like the Kardashian clan.
I've never watched teen mom but it sounds like the actions and attitude of this Jenelle were what appealed to you more than these fake lifestyles reality tv portrays.
No idea, the kardashian one is honestly gross, i want that family to die out. Im all for fake but they take it to another level, especially showing no honedty in the work they get done
I don't idolize them. I despise Hollywood and the entertainment industry. I can't stand their moral decay and their agenda which is why I stopped watching TV years ago.
