Considering humans are killing off the planet I’m certainly here for extreme consequences for people who don’t value life of animals. Killing them is too extreme. Prison time & community service however would be the method I would go with.
I've got more sympathy for extreme measures when critically endangered animals are concerned, though. I don't think there are many Arctic seals in that category.
Poaching is illegal. They are not hunting to sustain themselves. They kill animals who are on a protected list to sell off their parts for profit. They clearly don't care for life , which, to me, puts them outside the bounds of polite society. It's a vile and immoral practice. A simple fine and jail time isn't enough of a deterrent. They should be judged by the moral principles they believe in: that life can be reduced to parts of value. They should be killed and used to advance medical research. Their cruelty may lead to benefit in the world.
No. I don't think a person should be killed because they killed an animal. Almost all poaching is done in nations that are impoverished and those people are desperately trying to feed their families. You want to stop poaching then lift those countries up from poverty, fix the corruption in their government, make their economies free market and capitalistic and within a few generations poaching will stop because people will no longer have to choose between killing an animal illegally to get money vs. watching their children slowly starve to death.
A lengthy prison sentence , with a restorative justice order included , put them to ( hard ) work in habitat creation , management and protection projects. May as well make use of them , in order to preserve future generations of the creatures they killed , as well as all the other flora and fauna , and ensure their future , use them not kill them. I strongly disagree with posters that state human lives are worth more than other animals ( reminder... we ARE part of the Animal Kingdom , not separate as many people seem to wrongly believe ) their lives have equal status.
I have nothing against poaching. Last time I checked, wild animals aren't my property, and I don't believe they should be anyone else's property either, certainly not the government's.
As such, I don't see on what grounds it would be justified for my desire to preserve wild animals to outweigh a poacher's desire to kill and profit from them.
Actually they are government's property, since they can act as resources for tourists. And for the other point, I believe preservation should always be given a priority over killing as a society.
I think they should be tagged with a subdermal gps tracker, realeased into the the wild and hunted by professionals. With non lethal weaponry, but they don’t need to know that at first. Shoot them with a tranquilizer then toss me in jail for a few decades so they can reflect on how terrifying that felt.

No. I don't think anyone should be put to death for their crimes. I'm perfectly okay with solitary confinement for life for extreme crimes, though. And many people would consider that cruel and unusual punishment. I wouldn't consider illegal poaching to be serious enough to warrant that, however.

Absolutely many of them are murderers look at the father and son who shot and killed the mother bear and her cubs and then laughed about it although I'm thankful they were caught and were imprisoned people like them do deserve the death penalty same as the guy who shot and killed Cecil the Lion
1st offence should be slapped with a fine second offence fine and 1yr in jail third offence 100k fine and 5yrs in prison and fourth you should be treated like you treated the animals you poached, taken out back and bullet in your head bc u had 4 other chances and you didn't learn so evidently you have no respect of the law and why keep you around. i fully support animals and thinning out the herd but legally. if your poaching endangered animals no chance one and done you should be taken out.
Not the death penalty, but maybe if their hands were severed so they wouldn't do anymore poaching, and 'poacher' branded on their cheek, so everyone knows who they are.

I'd support execution for people who perform abortions before saying a poacher deserves the death penalty. That's just dumb. Hefty fines and maybe incarceration, sure.
Depends on what/how they are hunting. Everything can be bad in excess. Even air, food, water. This applies to every aspect of a humans life. Balance is the key. I believe severe penalties should be enforced for disrupting the "Balance" of nature.
I don't believe in the death penalty for anyone, animals or people. I do think they should see some kind of therapist who could figure out why they are doing what they are doing.
They do what they do because they want money and they don’t care about animals. Simple as that. Most people when pushed into a corner would make the exact same decision. It’s not something a therapist can fix.
@Wharvey98 Therapists aren't there to fix people, they're there to listen and try to understand people. Ideally, they could just talk to a friend, but when you have no one... And I don't feel like a human could really kill anything for money. There's some stronger underlying motivation they feel they could achieve through money, but it's not just for the sake of having it. You would have to have something wrong with you if you're willing to kill anyway, so they still need someone to talk to and connect with.
The thing is basically everyone is willing to kill when push comes to shove. Think about Nazi germany in ww2, are you trying to tell me there was something wrong with 99 percent of the population of Germany?

Never. For certain rate animals there should be severe fines and/or jail time, but animal life is not more valuable than human life. And when it's people poaching for their own food? That shouldn't even be illegal.

The death penalty is found to be wrong even in many cases of HUMAN murder, but of course a lot of people on here value animals more than humans so I guess it makes sense. @mattdzz Humans are a type of mammal. Technically one could say we are a type of animal. Hypothetical which do you think is worth more a human that abused and or raped, and or tortured 20 people or an animals that harmed 1 person.
@MysteriousDarkness It doesn't matter what the subjective value I would place on a particular humans life, as I would value the price of my mother as infinitely higher than anyone elses, and certainly be willing to trade her life for the entire population of France. The point is that we as the pinnacle of creation, via enlightenment principles, have an INTRINSIC value (which alludes to natural rights), which is contrasted against an animal (any animal) that does not possess any intrinsic value. Therefore, society could value a rapists life at $1, but that's still more than the $0 of an animal as the social structure of any community is founded on the principle of human worth.

Let me make this clear for you, due to certain actions a person can forfeit their life in the communities estimation, and receive a death sentence, BUT that same society and our foundation are based upon the inherent belief that ALL human life has an intrinsic and inalienable value, which is NOT forfeited. This is why even murderers and rapists are given dignity when they die. Your rhetoric about someone losing the value of their life is the same hypothetical scenario someone could develop to make another, or another group, sub-human. Not a good idea.
@mattdzz Indirectly you are saying you vslue the life of a rapist more than a dogs even after knowing the dog has saved many lives. In other words if one of them had to die you would choose the dog because you think a rapists life is more important. You need help.

No, but an imprisonment should is far as we can go by the law. Law has to offer them a chance for redemption, since the prison system is based on the ideology that people can change.
Trapping is ok as long as it's not a dead trap and your just moving the animal away from your home/property but poaching is very wrong and thay should get punished big time for it, maybe not that extreme as death penalty
All that humans are, are slightly smarter animals who tend to do a lot of stupid things. Poachers should not be given the death penalty, but definitely imprisoned for several years and stripped of any and all hunting licenses, gear, e. t. c.
