Do you think the name Adolf was terminally knackered by Hitler?
Although this name was never widespread in the Anglophone world, it (or variants such as Adolphe, Adolfo etc) was once popular in most of western Europe.

With the exceptions of Sweden, and the Spanish and Portuguese-speaking nations, however, it is now a functionally extinct name, with very few people having been christened 'Adolf' since 1945, for obvious reasons.

Do you think it will ever re-emerge, or did Hitler effectively end it forever? I know if I came across a child named Adolf, my first assumption (assuming he didn't come from one of the countries I mentioned above) would be that the parents were being deliberately provocative, and were paying tribute to a genocidal mid-twentieth century tyrant...
