I call it the Wuhan Flu. I was disappointed Kung Flu did not take hold.

It is from China which is typically how diseases are named; so no it isn't.
But it already has a scientific name.

If people decided on it first then sure but it already got a scientific name and the people wanted to call it Chinese afterward just to spur on hatred. Sorry but I just angry.

Wuhan makes more sense. But anyway this disease spreads so easily it doesn’t make sense anymore. SmallPox started in Egypt but we don’t call it a Egyptian virus. Cause it’s not as informative anymore if we call it that way. A few days ago A homeless man called me chink at grocery store. Racist attacks in America on the rise. I am just sensitive and don’t approve of these trends. Pandemics are natural events not Asian events...

As for smallpox, you could point to plenty of such disease that aren't named by the place they are from; but then there is also quite a few that are like the Spanish Flu, West Nile Virus, Ebola, Lyme Disease, etc. I just don't like the talking point that calling this virus the Chinese Flu is racist as it is a talking point of the Chinese government. Which has been repressing its people for generations. So I don't like it when they to get away with anything more than they already have.
It's one of many ways diseases are named but in this case, the virus already had a name.
I love how no one complained when the media called it Wuhan/Chinese virus for months. ONLY when Trump does it do people start to race bait!

I don't think it's racist in itself, it's just that there are stupid people that will be racist because of it. It sounds sort of dumb though, "Chinese virus", like you don't know the name of it.
I think it's just unnecessary. It first popped up in China, but it has a totally neutral name that even sounds like a brand of beer. Calling it the "Chinese" virus associates a deadly disease with a whole ethnic group, it will have/has had an effect on how people view those people, it gives actual bigots more fodder to attack Asian people. It is an overall societal negative and coronavirus sounds better anyways.

All diseases named after the countries where they originated, and there are many more. Not only is this not a big deal, the anti-Trump media for months called it the Wuhan/Chinese VIrus. I guess if you are anti-Trump you get a pass?

It's not unless you're going to recall 'the Spanish flu' or the 'West Nile Virus'. Naming it after the region it originated is not racist, just another attempt to make a bigger issue out of nothing.
“COVID-19” or Coronavirus is fine. I think calling it the “Chinese Virus” creates more issues and divide; it’s absolutely unnecessary.
No, its called that because it originated in China. Many viruses are named after where they come from. Just like the Ebola disease, it was first discovered near the Ebola River.
Or even the Japanese Encephalitis, the first case of this was in Japan.

The Chinese Corona Virus is named after were it came from. Just like the Ebola disease it was first discovered near the Ebola River. GET OVER IT. We have TONS of things named after were they came from, who discovered, or favored them. And if people really are hating a race because a virus was named after that race, they are immature and dumb.
China is a huge country. It’s more accurate to say Wuhan Coronavirus if we have to name it from somewhere but this disease spreads so easily that a place name is no longer that useful. Just stick with the scientific name it already has...

There’s a lot of things where that naming system breaks down. It’s origin point is sometimes not that useful for naming something and it already has a scientific name anyway...

That's absolutely stupid. If you look at it like that, the SARS Virus is actually a mutated cousin to COVID19, so that should have been called the Canada Virus. Ebola should have been the Africa virus.

Who cares if it's racist but it's just not the official name for the flue. Just stick to the name we gave to it... I think it's good that we have certain conventions naming things otherwise everything would be really messy especially in science.
Corona virus variations are there since years. It's not an invention of anybody. To call it Chinese virus is racistic and only about trying to blame someone

The Spanish Flu actually started in Kansas. We can call it more properly the "Kansas Flu" or the "American Flu."
