I call it the Wuhan Flu. I was disappointed Kung Flu did not take hold. Is is something-ist to call Lyme disease, Lyme disease? Is is anti-Native American co call diarrhea Montezuma's revenge?
Oh don't worry about it. People nowadays are butthurt for literally anything. Instead of worrying which string of letters will offend other people, worry how not to get it.
Yes, I correct a socialist on her spelling , which everyone here knows I am right and she starts crying about it. She should just come out and say , yes , I am stupid, can't spell, and I am a runaway socialist
If people decided on it first then sure but it already got a scientific name and the people wanted to call it Chinese afterward just to spur on hatred. Sorry but I just angry.
Wuhan makes more sense. But anyway this disease spreads so easily it doesn’t make sense anymore. SmallPox started in Egypt but we don’t call it a Egyptian virus. Cause it’s not as informative anymore if we call it that way. A few days ago A homeless man called me chink at grocery store. Racist attacks in America on the rise. I am just sensitive and don’t approve of these trends. Pandemics are natural events not Asian events...
@theChineseWASP It is unfortunate that their are stupid asshats that think it is okay to hurl racial epitaphs at random people. As for smallpox, you could point to plenty of such disease that aren't named by the place they are from; but then there is also quite a few that are like the Spanish Flu, West Nile Virus, Ebola, Lyme Disease, etc. I just don't like the talking point that calling this virus the Chinese Flu is racist as it is a talking point of the Chinese government. Which has been repressing its people for generations. So I don't like it when they to get away with anything more than they already have.
I don't think it's racist in itself, it's just that there are stupid people that will be racist because of it. It sounds sort of dumb though, "Chinese virus", like you don't know the name of it.
I think it's just unnecessary. It first popped up in China, but it has a totally neutral name that even sounds like a brand of beer. Calling it the "Chinese" virus associates a deadly disease with a whole ethnic group, it will have/has had an effect on how people view those people, it gives actual bigots more fodder to attack Asian people. It is an overall societal negative and coronavirus sounds better anyways.
1. Spanish Flu 2. Japanese Encephalitis 3. German Measles 4. Hong Kong Flu
All diseases named after the countries where they originated, and there are many more. Not only is this not a big deal, the anti-Trump media for months called it the Wuhan/Chinese VIrus. I guess if you are anti-Trump you get a pass?
I would say so, yes. Since it is much easier to say corona or covid 19, one must assume that those who are calling it "the Chinese virus" are doing so on purpose.
It's not unless you're going to recall 'the Spanish flu' or the 'West Nile Virus'. Naming it after the region it originated is not racist, just another attempt to make a bigger issue out of nothing.
No, its called that because it originated in China. Many viruses are named after where they come from. Just like the Ebola disease, it was first discovered near the Ebola River.
@theChineseWASP The Japanese Encephalitic is a virus. I did not say Chinese Encephalitic, that's not even a thing. The Chinese Corona Virus is named after were it came from. Just like the Ebola disease it was first discovered near the Ebola River. GET OVER IT. We have TONS of things named after were they came from, who discovered, or favored them. And if people really are hating a race because a virus was named after that race, they are immature and dumb.
China is a huge country. It’s more accurate to say Wuhan Coronavirus if we have to name it from somewhere but this disease spreads so easily that a place name is no longer that useful. Just stick with the scientific name it already has...
There’s a lot of things where that naming system breaks down. It’s origin point is sometimes not that useful for naming something and it already has a scientific name anyway...
@theChineseWASP Yeah, because it takes longer to say. But that doesn't mean its not another name for it. P. S If you keep getting attacked frequently try training yourself how to fight
Saying "Chinese Virus" is NOT targeting you because of your ethnicity! In fact the media did it for months, but you didn't seem to care... UNTIL Trump did it. Interesting.
@OceanMelon No one in real life calls it "the Chinese Virus" you are defending something that is not even commonplace. In my opinion you're just trying to promote incrimination of Asians. And you're only 13 too this is ridiculous. I wonder what kind of community you were raised in to be this racist and hateful already at this age.
No one in real life calls it "the Chinese virus". I gave a clear reason why your reasoning is flawed and all you can say is that I'm a "delusional idiot" or "not that smart". These aren't refutations just attacks.,..
That's a pretty dumb reason and I'm pretty sure you know it. "Chinese virus" is not that hard to say if people really want to commit to using it. But whatever I'm not sure you have the credentials to be an expert on this subject anyway so whatever...
That's absolutely stupid. If you look at it like that, the SARS Virus is actually a mutated cousin to COVID19, so that should have been called the Canada Virus. Ebola should have been the Africa virus. Crazy
I dont think its racist, but it certainly isn't appropriate. I am vehemently opposed to China's geo-political strategy and its undermining of the United States. However this sort of rhetoric is bad taste.
Who cares if it's racist but it's just not the official name for the flue. Just stick to the name we gave to it... I think it's good that we have certain conventions naming things otherwise everything would be really messy especially in science.
Corona virus variations are there since years. It's not an invention of anybody. To call it Chinese virus is racistic and only about trying to blame someone
It originated in China, and one big question mark at the side of it. Sadly there are so many questions about the virus. Any body that has been connected to it have either died or gone missing. Namely reporters trying to get to the truth...
Why not? By the same logic we can call AIDs "American AIDs" as it started in the United States. The Spanish Flu actually started in Kansas. We can call it more properly the "Kansas Flu" or the "American Flu."

It is from China which is typically how diseases are named; so no it isn't.
But it already has a scientific name.
@theChineseWASP So does the German Measles ; but we still refer to it as such.
I’ve almost never heard anyone call it the Chinese Virus... cause it already has a name...
If people decided on it first then sure but it already got a scientific name and the people wanted to call it Chinese afterward just to spur on hatred. Sorry but I just angry.
@theChineseWASP It was called the Wuhan Flu before they officially named it Covid-19.
Wuhan makes more sense. But anyway this disease spreads so easily it doesn’t make sense anymore. SmallPox started in Egypt but we don’t call it a Egyptian virus. It's one of many ways diseases are named but in this case, the virus already had a name.
I love how no one complained when the media called it Wuhan/Chinese virus for months. ONLY when Trump does it do people start to race bait!

Since it is much easier to say corona or covid 19, one must assume that those who are calling it "the Chinese virus" are doing so on purpose.
I cannot fathom why people cannot use it's scientific name.
No Chinese is a nationality not a race, to say its racist is being racist to Chinese people.
It still can cause hatred though...
@theChineseWASP that's on china
Calling it a Chinese virus can spread hatred on Chinese people.
@theChineseWASP to deny it causes more
That doesn’t make sense
@theChineseWASP it makes Chinese people look guilty
It's not unless you're going to recall 'the Spanish flu' or the 'West Nile Virus'. Naming it after the region it originated is not racist, just another attempt to make a bigger issue out of nothing.
“COVID-19” or Coronavirus is fine. I think calling it the “Chinese Virus” creates more issues and divide; it’s absolutely unnecessary.
No, its called that because it originated in China. Many viruses are named after where they come from. Just like the Ebola disease, it was first discovered near the Ebola River.
Or even the Japanese Encephalitis, the first case of this was in Japan.
I thought you were cool but you just promoting racism.
There’s a difference between Calling it a Chinese encephalitis and a Chinese virus. It’s encouraging discrimination and hatred.
@theChineseWASP I also though you were cool. But it turns out you're a delusional idiot.
Why?
Just a few days ago I got called chink. Racism on the rise I’m trying to protect myself and my peopel
It already has a scientific name anyway.

Just like the dog breed German Shepard. Came from Germany.
There’s a lot of things where that naming system breaks down. It’s origin point is sometimes not that useful for naming something and it already has a scientific name anyway...
@theChineseWASP Almost everything has a scientific name, but we don't generally call it by that.
I've heard almost no one call it the Chinese virus..
@theChineseWASP Yeah, because it takes longer to say. But that doesn't mean its not another name for it.
P. S If you keep getting attacked frequently try training yourself how to fight
That's BS. I shouldn't be getting targeted for my ethnicity when I did nothing wrong. Stop advocating disgusting BS.
@theChineseWASP You should learn how to fight in general. And if you really have a problem with me ignore or block me.
@theChineseWASP You shouldn't get attacked because of your race.
Well thanks I guess..
Saying "Chinese Virus" is NOT targeting you because of your ethnicity! In fact the media did it for months, but you didn't seem to care... UNTIL Trump did it. Interesting.

@genuinlysensitive Very interesting
@genuinlysensitive "Wuhan Coronavirus" is more scientific sounding than just "Chinese virus".

@theChineseWASP If you think I'm being hateful you clearly are not that smart.

@theChineseWASP Hey, you started this.
@theChineseWASP And I did not say you were stupid, I said you were not that smart

@theChineseWASP And I gave you the reason why most people call it by its other name.
Its easier to say
@theChineseWASP Now, as I said before, if you have a problem with me, Block me or ignore me.

@genuinlysensitive outrage?
When it comes from China, it's pretty fair to call it so
Nah, most likley would be deemed similar if it came from US or anywhere else. And it came from there, so, it nickname is just showing it.
Your comment is not making a lot of sense the way it is written...
Who cares if it's racist but it's just not the official name for the flue. Just stick to the name we gave to it... I think it's good that we have certain conventions naming things otherwise everything would be really messy especially in science.

Yea, Chinese Gov't trying to wipe someone out , but who? Their own people? Destroy US economy to make them #1?
@888theGreat The Chinese government are very hard to understand.
Logic just doesn't work with them...
I believe so. Considering the majority who say that blame the Chinese as a whole.
Why not?
By the same logic we can call AIDs "American AIDs" as it started in the United States.
The Spanish Flu actually started in Kansas. We can call it more properly the "Kansas Flu" or the "American Flu."
