Stupid? No. Just overly cautious. The danger is exaggerated, but that doesn't mean it's not there- if not to you, then to someone else. The smart thing to do would be to isolate the vulnerable (you'd have to set up some sort of support network, but spending a bunch of money is still a better financial call than crushing the damn economy), and let those who choose to risk take risks.
The precedent it's setting is far beyond stupid, however.
No, but not because I think it does anything to prevent the virus. I just like that people don't look at me, dont talk to me, I don't have to wear makeup, etc. 😂 I'm used to it at this point but I'll be happy when we don't have to wear them anymore.
@acooke-13 Let me guess without looking: You're not a doctor or a nurse or any kind of healthcare professional, you're not even a candy-striper. You didn't even get a good grade in that one human anatomy class you took.
Also, I did take a quick look at your profile and I saw that you're from the UK, so let me guess without looking, you live in or near London, you have a boyfriend, and he's from Pakistan, and you don't know it, but he has other girlfriends too, and most of them are under 13.
@Chriscunning They wear them at work because they have to or they'll get fired, none of them are wearing masks outside of work because they all know a mask doesn't do shit against virus-sized particles.
All of the doctors pretending to be experts on the news are political hacks who haven't treated a patient in 20 years or more, if ever, and they're not taking the masks too seriously either:
The WHO (World Health Organization) says there's no need for people to wear masks in public. The CDC (Center for Disease Control) says there's no need to wear a mask in public. The AAPS (Association of American Physicians and Surgeons) says there's no need for masks in public. The AACN (American Association of Critical Care Nurses) says there's no need for masks in public. The fucking warning label on the box that the masks come in says right there in fine print that their masks do not provide suitable protection against Covid-19 or other viruses.
The only "experts" telling people to wear masks in public are talking heads on the news who are just barely educated enough to read off a teleprompter. That's why I think you're kind of dumb for listening to them and swallowing whatever they say, hook, line, and sinker, without bothering to do even five minutes of basic research to see if they're just straight-up fucking lying right to your face. Spoiler alert, that's exactly what they're doing. Just lying for attention so they can sell more ad revenue. Keep people scared so they keep watching the news.
@bananaman177 So the doctors I refer to run their own private practices. I highly doubt they would fire themselves for not wearing a mask.
As for "experts". We can't now go and claim WHO, CDC, etc. advise against it, when we refuting what "experts" do.
Besides WHO said Covid is not a pandemic until hospitals became overwhelmed, then decided to call it a pandemic. Now we quoting them as "experts". And if we going to jump down the road of "doctors will be fired", AAPS, AACN probably all used the same memo of rules that CDC passed around without doing their own research.
As for the WHO, they have changed their stance on wearing masks (https://www. webmd. com/lung/news/20200608/who-changes-stance-says-public-should-wear-masks).
@Chriscunning The reason he threatened to cut off funding was because they were caught withholding information about the Corona Virus in January of 2019 at the request of the Chinese government and their actions allowed the virus to spread much further and faster and kill more people across the globe because of it.
Even the Japanese Prime Minister accused them of acting as the Chinese Health Organization instead of the World Health Organization.
You probably didn't hear anything about this since it wasn't on CNN.
The medical experts are mostly in agreement that wearing the mask is a good thing, so I don't think it's stupid. Personally, I don't care if I die, I've lived in this jacked up world long enough, but I don't want to spread Covid to anyone else, so I'll wear the mask.
No. I'm an American currently in South Korea and we've been wearing masks even before COVID hit (due to dirty polluted air; also China's fault). If it helps to literally save lives, then do it. This isn't a political thing. Stop trying to make every F*CKING thing in American political nowadays!
If the worst thing happening to you today is being expected to wear a mask, you should be thankful. Because there are millions of people who are dealing with much worse. Also the time, energy and effort people are putting into arguing for or against them is a major waste. Simply because that time, energy and effort can be put into many, many better things then arguing like toddlers.
While I understand the idea of protecting others with the mask, I disagree with any safety equipment which does not make the user safer.
If you're wearing a mask to protect others you're all good.
But if you're wearing one to protect yourself, you need a respirator.

what i think is stupid, is the fear mongering from the liberals about this. And freaking faking causes of death to label so many unrelated things as covid deaths. I am loving my mask though, because it keeps ALL the germs away from me. The smokers hacking and coughing all day right in people's faces... who knows what germs they might have. But I haven't got a cold or flu yet this year, which is rare for me, and I'm loving it. It's also incredibly rude of you to insult everyone who doesn't agree with your opinion, but that's to be expected from people on your side of the political spectrum.
No, if COVID-19 gets spread due to droplets transmitted through our respiratory system, I don't know if I worded that correctly, but I cannot feel anything when I wear a mask. It can be hard to breathe sometimes, but aside from that, I feel nothing. I'm not saying wearing a mask means you can't get anyone else sick, because there are other factors to take into account, but it does help.

Maybe. But I just wear them in case they do what people promise the mask does. Better safe than sorry. It doesn't hurt wearing then even if they maybe don't do that much.
As someone who got covid... No, it's a really fucking bad virus. I'm still having breathing issues months later. You're an idiot if you refuse to wear one.
If you're refusing to wear one, spreading this bullshit online, refusing to acknowledge the shit this virus has caused for others and instead saying they're manipulated. It's all selfish.
It's not false. You can watch videos of people coughing with & without masks and see the stark difference they cause. If they didn't protect against anything, doctors and other medical providers wouldn't wear them while treating patients, they provide security against large droplets that could contain a virus. Simple as that.
Masks are designed to be worn no longer than 30 minutes. Having one on all day, and particularly reusing them actually has quite the opposite effect of intended. The CDC has come right out and said masks do not prevent the spread of anything. No, you're right. I'm sure you know better.
Yes, it's pathetically stupid and serves 0 purpose other than for people to have the illusion of safety from a virus lesser than most common cold strains! I will not wear one, ever!
All I’ll say is they’re necessary to alleviate the spread of the virus, that’s it. They’re not to be worn as an accessory. If a vaccine is finally found and mass gatherings are permitted again, it would look stupid to wear them like it did before for people who aren’t even ill 😷
Yes and no. The mask is not really that useful alone, but coupled with other things it can help. Sadly, not everyone follows the right practices, making it difficult for the mask to be as useful as it could.
sadly this is true... in the uk when it was made compulsory to wear them in shops it seemed to act as an excuse for people to no longer socially distance
@update and just so you know the term covidiots is at least outside of america, used to describe those idiots who still claim it to be a hoax... ironic how you called the user that had covid an idiot on here whilst still refusing to accept wearing a mask is at least better than playing russian roulette
Reasonable people can disagree on some aspects, but I think it should be obvious that requiring a mask while outside with no one within 100 feet of you, as many parts of California are now mandating with the threat of a $500 fine, is an asinine and totalitarian pile of burning manure.
I work in an ER and have been around covid patients for months never got it and neither have any of my coworkers. We all have to wear masks at all times. They definitely work, but are not 100% effectiive.

Stupid people have latched onto the mask thing as a way of pretending to be smart because they're listening to the "experts."
If the experts told them to jump off a bridge, they'd be the smartest people at the bottom of the river.
Lemme guess without looking, you're from the US?
@acooke-13 Let me guess without looking: You're not a doctor or a nurse or any kind of healthcare professional, you're not even a candy-striper. You didn't even get a good grade in that one human anatomy class you took.

Good so far, yeah?
Well the experts (being surgeons, nurses and doctors) wear them. Then 'jumping of the bridge' in mask terms, I think I will follow.
@Chriscunning They wear them at work because they have to or they'll get fired, none of them are wearing masks outside of work because they all know a mask doesn't do shit against virus-sized particles.

@Chriscunning Was that before or after Trump announced he would stop funding them?
@bananaman177 I am not sure. But if Trump can influence WHO, and I fairly confident that CDC, AAPS, etc. would also be influenced.
@bananaman177 Oh look I definitely agree the Chinese withheld a lot of information. WHO is a massive disappointment in my opinion.
But we shouldn't detract from the fact that if Trump could influence an organization, that he could influence any others.
The medical experts are mostly in agreement that wearing the mask is a good thing, so I don't think it's stupid. Personally, I don't care if I die, I've lived in this jacked up world long enough, but I don't want to spread Covid to anyone else, so I'll wear the mask.

You probably had breathing issues beforehand. You're just being manipulated
Yep I did, and covid has made them so much worse! You're just being selfish.
In what way am I being selfish? The mask is merely a false sense of security. And represents pointless civil obedience.
If you're refusing to wear one, spreading this bullshit online, refusing to acknowledge the shit this virus has caused for others and instead saying they're manipulated. It's all selfish.

Obviously you're from the US
@acooke-13 I believe it to be influence of their clown ass president.

it feels stupid for sure but in the face of covid it is sadly essential and here's a little film the covidiots might need to... enjoy

If people think a piece of cloth is going to prevent them from getting COVID then more power to them. I think it's ridiculous.
I have asthma so I can’t afford to think they are stupid. Getting covid would really fuck me up.
Wear it to protect others (i. e. keep your saliva, snot and mucus to yourself)
