Not at all. Masks, even cloth masks, work as source control. It's not a magic cure, nobody says it is, but it's better than not using it.

"Face coverings... function primarily in source control; capturing droplets expelled by an infected individual."
Droplet spread is widely considered to be the main mode of transmission of SARS-CoV-2: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32171952/

"Cloth masks are a simple, economic and sustainable alternative to surgical masks as a means of source control of SARS-CoV-2 in the general community "
Every time I read an article or posts of people pretending to be scientific saying there is "limited evidence" of mask being effective, these people often provide zero statistical analysis, it just made me laugh. These people don't even try to be scientifically respectable but they readily slap the label of science in their "work". Well no shit there is "limited evidence" when you ignore the data lol. Here's what happens when you do look at the data:
https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(20)31142-9/fulltext
Table 2
"No face mask, 17.4%. Face mask, 3.1%"
"Medical or surgical face masks might result in a large reduction in virus infection; N95 respirators might be associated with a larger reduction in risk compared with surgical or similar masks"
That's the meta analysis of available data.
So yeah, experts don't "disagree" as much as some people like (so they could continue their political tradition of science denial). People sometimes do research into how likely a person gets infected when they wear mask to get some number that confounds the issue. The US is a country where people have huge political motive to fight wearing mask (like half of their political parties were initially against wearing masks for some retarded reason so they try to defend their initial stance, which also includes "covid is a hoax"). Hell I dont even doubt there are people who get paid just to shitpost some statistics about how bad masks are, including statisticians. It's not hard, just cherry pick your data, it's very easy to full Covidiots, especially in the US. Of course you can always look for these research, no one can stop Oxford CDC from measuring these percentage, just like no one can stop researchers from measuring how farts transmit covid 19. They are just information, people need to use their brain to turn these information into relevant understanding.

It is stupid and the masks are doing no more than leading everyone into a false sense of security. These ear loop masks clearly state on their packaging that they do not protect against viruses. Aside from that, we’re blowing carbon dioxide back into our face, sweating because it’s summer, and causing bacteria and germs to go right back into our bodies. Having said that, I do wear one so that I’m allowed to get groceries and go shopping.
Only a fucking idiot jackass would think wearing the mask is stupid during these times. I don't listen to the different things being touted by our nations politicians because for the most part they are just spewing shit to benefit their wallets and friends wallets. What I do listen too is the Dr's and medical professionals who are speaking the truth about this virus.
It's pretty stupid I dont feel the need to protect other people from getting sick. If someone is that scared they should stay the fuck home and quarantine themselves so us people that dont care can live a normal life.

I know it's stupid, because I'm not. Get it?
But seriously guys, y'all get a pass for the first few months of the pandemic and after that SMARTEN UP you've had more than enough time to find the truth, and the TRUTH, the UNRELENTING, IRREFUTABLE TRUTH of these masks is that there is way, WAYYY insufficient evidence for them stopping transmission of viral infections to be instituting the policies we are seeing across the globe. Many of them have disclaimers directly on the packaging for those of you who are smart enough to read.
Furthermore, what most of you goofs do NOT know AT ALL is that wearing a mask can have NEGATIVE HEALTH RAMIFICATIONS for the wearer, especially if worn over long periods of time, or reused, or used improperly. They are not meant to be worn for longer than 30 minutes ideally. They build up moisture, which attracts bacteria, which you breath in for extended periods of time. You can search this on google and find a bunch of BS propaganda because google is A NAZI COMPANY or, you can use duckduckgo or seek other information sources and find the TRUTH.No. I don't like wearing a mask, but it's not about me. Only in the States is this even a discussion. It's hilarious when Americans act superior to science and the rest of the world. Almost every discussion we have in the States is a discussion every other western nation is long past. What we think in the States as Left versus Right, the rest of the western world thinks of as moderate right to extreme right.
Only in the States does the government have to do deal with such a widespread issue of people not wanting to wear a mask. The rest of world saw the science say wearing a mask protects others from your germs and they didn't think twice about it, but once again, Americans prove they don't care about their fellow citizens with their "why should I have to ________ for others" rhetoric. Once again, Americans reject science. Once again, Americans think if the problem doesn't affect them, there's no reason to care. I'm sorry, I hate to break it to my fellow Americans, but we're not superior, we do not know something the rest of the world doesn't know, and we're stupid enough to think doing good for your neighbor jeopardizes our freedom. In certain situations, absolutely YES.
The other day, I was accosted by a lady for taking the mask off--after I had left the building, in the open air and blazing sunlight, with no one around me until she approached, on a hot summer day, on the blazing supermarket parking lot. I asked her about all those factors, and to my relief I could visualize the proverbial light bulb go on in her head. She stopped and replied, "Oh, good point..."
If this flu strain is *that powerful* that even dry heat and sunlight and open space cannot stop it, then even masks are little more than token gestures, like medieval people carrying around saint statues or wearing their crosses to prevent bubonic plague.
Now in an elevator or some cramped indoor space, sure, wear that mask. But when I see people driving alone in their cars wearing masks, or walking their dogs wearing masks, dogs who likely have exposed them to much more disease risk by cleaning up their poo or feeding them or having the dog lick them, then common sense has gone right out the proverbial window.Since the CDC stated the wearing of face mask is optional why are som many people so anal about forcing people to wear a mask...
The cold and flu season roll around annually why weren't anyone concerned about about that and requiring everyone to wear a mak then the flu virus is also a corona virus and annually over 500,000 people die from the flu mostly the elderly but no one so scared of the flu and there's a vaccine for the flu but still people die the
Fact 1. The common face mask is only capable of blocking bacteria and/or dust OR Larger Particles
Fact 2. A virus is smaller then a Bacteria and/or dust particles therefore so it doesn't block you from breathing in any virus included covid-19
Fact 3. Face mask only Concentrates your own breaths so if you are already infected it drives the virus deeper into your lungs and possibly making you harder to treat and cure
Therefore there is no reason to be forcing people to wear face mask especially if they are simply walking out in the open or in their vehicle driving
If you can still smell a person's a Flatulence while wearing your face mask then you are not protected from being infected by covid-19 remember that that person's flatulence typically has to pass through multiple layers of clothing before it passes through that face mask that your wearing... use some common sense the common face mask is providing no protection from any virus so please stop harassing people who choose not to conform to the mass Hysteria the the mass media is spoutingThe fact that some people think COVID-19 is fake lmao. Please. You really think the world gives that much of a damn about American politics? They don't. If you all who "don't believe" in the virus, masks, or social distancing took just one moment to learn about the impact its had, you'd have a chance at being intelligent. I hope you all never get to experience the horrors of having a family member put into the hospital and possibly die from this virus. You won't get to say goodbye. You won't get to visit. They'll just be gone. Be grateful for your health and help others keep theirs. Wear a damn mask.
As someone with high-risk people in the family, I totally do not see masks as being stupid. People wore them at the time of the Spanish Flu, as well.
It's hard to say whether they help greatly when it comes to stopping the spread, but even if it's a little bit, I'd rather be that little bit safer than not at all.
I'll admit yes, it is a little uncomfortable, but it's worth sacraficing a little bit of comfort if you're helping to stop the spread.
When people protest against masks, I honestly find it childish. We're in the middle of a pandemic, we don't know when it's going to end, so just put the mask on especially when we have people who are at a greater risk than others. The absolute idiocy of the Americans in the comments make me laugh, no wonder your countries fucked with Covid. Of course you should wear a mask, it protects other people, if you're not going to wear a mask don't complain - it's not that hard.
Yep. Felt like that especially when people first started to wear them and they weren't required in most places. Still do.
I'm fine with people doing either or as long as the people that are sick actually wear a mask (Which they do from what I've seen).
It messes with things that are supposed to be enjoyable like a damn amusement park, where it shouldn't be required especially not on a damn water ride.
I'm tired of everyone complaining instead of just staying home and shutting up or wearing their mask if they're worried and leaving others aloneI tested negative for Covid recently.
I wear my masks whenever I’m in public spaces with a lot of people (workplaces, grocery stores, etc) I limit contact with strangers even though it’s hurt my sex life. Basically I’ve done everything doctors say you should do so you don’t get sick.
No. I do not think wearing the mask is stupid. I do think some people are stupid with the masks though. I see people wearing a mask in their car or mowing their lawn. That’s dumb. You don’t need to wear the mask in your own personal space. It’s other people’s germs you want to protect yourself against. I don’t think a lot of people understand the nature of the virus and how most people catch it.Yes , but I am surrounded by a bunch of stupid people in this world that will give me weird looks if I don’t wear it , so I put it on just so I don’t hear nonsense , When I am walking into a store like Walmart that has a McDonald’s in it and I can smell the McDonald’s food through my mask. I guess I am safe from COVID. Dumbest thing ever
I didn't bother to check, but I would wager a week's worth of my wages that the Asker is American. Only Americans seem to whine and moan about wearing masks. You can probably take a stab as to why. The sensible ones, who are not affected by the anti-intellectualism "movement", know that science and facts are the mainstay of the day. The rest - well, Asker here is a prime example.
My advice to the Asker would be:Its not a perfect solution, but until we have a viable vaccine and the means to widely distribute it its the least intrusive way to slow the spread of the virus while keeping our economy going. People will still be infected with the coronavirus while masks are worn by everyone, but there will be far fewer people infected, and the fewer people that are infected, the fewer people there are to spread the disease further. It will keep numbers down, allowing restaurants, bars, shopping malls, etc to stay open and maybe even allow larger gatherings to restart. If we don't wear masks we're destined for another shutdown, another record blow to our GDP, and more people unemployed. If you want the economy to recover, wear a mask. If you want movies to be released, wear a mask. If you want to see concerts again, wear a mask. If you want to meet your friends for a drink at a bar, wear a mask. If you want schools to open or stay open, wear a mask. Its that simple. #maskup
There are conflicting studies as to its effectiveness. However I don't think it hurts to wear one, just to be on the safe side, and I don't mind having to wear one in order to enter a business in which the business owner decided on that policy of his/her own accord. What I do mind is the government passing laws related to wearing them.
Business owners should not be forced to turn away customers who refuse to wear a mask or stay under a certain capacity if they don't want to. They should be able to decide their own policies. People should not be limited to having under a certain number of guests on their own property. And people certainly shouldn't be forced to wear a mask just to leave their house or be in public places. The idea of the mask is to reduce the spread. There's no telling how the virus mutates and further spreading it only puts more at risk if it unifyily mutates. In active hosts. VERY rarely are viruses stable no telling what COVID could morph into. Sure if you don't want to wear a mask and "reduce" the chances of it spreading go ahead. Just don't play a victim card if you get it. If you want to live with what it feels like to have severe asthma 24/7 go ahead live as risky as you can. Just understand there is no cure for this and there is no garentee that its ever going to become less lethal. In fact most viruses only slowly become more lethal.
And most of all one should pray no country tries to weaponize COVID. Or we will really be in trouble.Since the bug only spreads when going to school, church, work, shops, and any other activities that are positive to the economy while protests and city burning riots do not spread it; per that Biden (riot supporter) political add with his mask on, of course it makes sense. Lmao. Look around at the bandana tech everyone is wearing to block aerosolized particulate that can only be filtered with an N95+, and it appears moronic. Then watch everyone continuously put their hands to their faces to adjust said life saving bandana tech, their faces are being contaminated by anything their just touched because they might have just forgot not to touch it. These masks have as high of probability of spreading it as they supposedly protect. They give a false sense of protection so that I have noticed that now people have been huddling more.
So go put on your mask and hide under your desk for incoming nukes.
This mask crap is the biggest fraud yet. Here is the box that the N95 masks come in and the manufacturers warning...
... now you tell me
I don't think it does jack shit and I laugh at people driving cars by them self and wearing a mask.
According to the CDC, almost all of the masks being worn by the public are completely worthless anyway, and overzealous regulations made by state and local governments can even be counterproductive (wearing a face covering for extended periods comes with significant health risks). Forcing people who are working outside with nobody anywhere near them, like on farms and plant nurseries for example is stupid, even if the masks were effective.
I like wearing a mask. I'm helping others not to get sick. It only bothered the first time when I couldn't breathe in it, and that I also live in a hot climate area. So it doesn't bother me anymore. The FIRST FIRST thing when I had to wear a mask was when I was in Hong Kong in 2010, at the age of 5. I was sick at the time and I had to wear the mask. It was hard to breathe in, but I got used to it.
Not at all. They may or may not help, but the smart thing to do is err on the side of caution. I can’t think of a more minor inconvenience than the masks anyway, so it’s not even worth tripping about, if you ask me. Better hills out there to die on even if one disagrees with it, haha.
