I’m seeing headlines from the right celebrating Amy Coney Barrett for being the shining example of how “women can have it all.” She has 7 kids and an important governmental career. That’s pretty impressive!Amy Coney BarrettBut it’s interesting because regular women are often also condemned for juggling a kid and a career, utilizing nannies/daycare services, and accused of trying to be superwoman. In discussions about feminism, I’ve personally been explicitly told I “can’t have it all” and I would be better to choose either career or motherhood.
But when Amy Coney Barrett does it, she’s celebrated by the same camp who blame feminism and often say “women can’t have it all.”
I wonder what her family’s schedule is like. Where are her kids when she’s not around? I believe I read they’re all under 20. What role does her husband play in parenting?

I agree with you. I too have been told, women can't have it all, especially on here, supporters of the same camp you talk about.
I can't remember what the conversation was about, but I remember saying to this one guy on here about how my auntie, has a business and she runs the household as well and he said to- "No superwomen exist that like that" or something along those lines, but hey what do I know, I'm only her niece I guess he's right with being a man and all and my auntie is just a figment of my imagination😂😂
Honestly, thought I disagree with Barrett politically, I think it is good to on one hand use her as an example on how women can have indeed have it all, and that should be celebrated but at the same time it's such hypocrisy because the majority of people celebrating this are the ones who also claim you have to have one or the other they act like a woman either has to have a family or a career.
So it is rather puzzling to me now, why all of a sudden according to them, women can have both.
Either way, I am always determined that I can have both, both a family and a career- no matter how many people tell me I can't, no matter how many people tell me I can. And I think any girl can achieve that, we don't need these people to decide when we can/can't.
She was in a cult that inspired the dystopian novel, Handmaid's Tale. During her congressional hearing, it'll be interesting if her husband answers for her or not. This cult also believes that women shouldn't have jobs, they need to be stay at mom's and birth children like a rabbit.
She seems to have it. I'm not sure of what a judges schedule is like. It can be a high visibility job... are the hours any longer than any other job? The court is in session and it is not in session. I'm not aware of many courts being in session on the weekend and are the hours late into the night? I do not know for sure. If the hours are kind of like any other office job... a 9-5 M-F schedule then I wouldn't think it is too different or hard to overcome. Of course, what was happening when they were little...2 months old, breast feeding, a year old, 2 years old? Did she take time away from career? Did the husband. If they just stuck the kid in daycare to be watched and raised by strangers who had to watch 10 other kids too then I think the kids paid a price for it. If a parent was there to raise them and that parent didn't go back to work until they were older and in school then I guess that works.
The truth is that women CAN have both a career and a family. And the people who tell you you can't are just trying to keep you down. Seriously! Those people are either traditionalists on one end or anti-child feminists on the other end.
However... I will say this: In my opinion, that lifestyle isn't for everyone. There are some who can do it and some who can't. And those who can do it to varying degrees. Everyone is different. And that's okay. You don't need to compare yourselves to others and measure your own worth by their achievements.
I think that when people say that you can't have it all, they imply that it's unlikely that you'll succeed in having it all. But celebrating someone who overcomes such hurdles is to be expected.
This pretty much. Most poeple don't have the drive nor the competence to get there. And sacrifices need to be made anyway. In her case the sacrifices is probably almost no free time.
Dont really have much respect for someone that doesn't get there on their own merit but instead rides on politics at the time. She was Fast tracked to the highest court position in the country without going through usual process of veting and confirming that all other judges not from trumps presidency usually go through. Before this, she was appointed as a judge by trump. So she has zero experience as a judge until trump put her there to give her resume some judge "experience", priming her to be more "qualified". An obvious almost pure political move by trump to gain voter favor from his Christian base close to election time. She allows herself to be used for favorable treatment. How different is it than giving a blow job for a job.
'We' haven't changed our opinions much. It's the politicians that flip-flop on an issue, making adjustments in their beliefs based on their agendas and unfortunately 'we' don't really get to decide like we're led to believe. Most of the general population stick with their original opinion, whatever that may be. We are second class citizens, watching in slow motion, the first class (gov't) throwing away everything our forefathers fought for to be a free nation where it's citizens are supposed to have more of a say than the ones 'serving' them. Politics is just another sport with overpaid players and we're the dumbasses in the stands cheering for one side or the other, hoping the game will end in our favor.
I’ve never heard any reasonable person on the right say that women should “chose between Career and being a mother”. That sounds like a talking point from the left. almost all couples in the USA share the bread winning and parenting responsibilities. With the types of lifestyles people like to live these days... you almost have to have two incomes.
I’ve been a conservative/Libertarian my whole life. And I’ve never heard any serious person say that a women should either work full time or be a stay at home mother. people on the right believe In freedom for the individual... that means making your own choices. Now I have no doubt that there are some religious wack jobs out there that would say some crazy stuff like that. but personal religious beliefs and political policies that you believe in aren’t related.
She's clearly an exceptional talent. So I don't think it's the most sensible thing in the world to say "women" can "have it all." Rather, what's more applicable here is "exceptionally talented and hard working people can have a LOT!" And good for her for that.
At the same time, as I understand it, she's getting a LOT of hate from "feminists" for. . . well basically for being conservative. So I guess a lot of the time "feminism" isn't really about "women" so much as it is about the political movement inside the Democrat party? Who knows.
The right just wants a biased court. Nothing they say about her matters in the sense that their only reason for nominating her is to steal a scotus seat. No other reason applies, because republicans would not be talking about her if they weren't trying to make everyone okay with the fact that they are stealing a scotus seat to overturn roe v wade.
The only problem I see with this post is that you assume that what Barrett has is truly “ having it all”. Is what she has, “all” there is to have? Maybe there’s more to life than just being really busy in your younger years, maybe not. Barrett is an emerging American treasure. We should just let her serve our country if she wants, and stay out of her way so she can live her life.
This is the problem when you think in the binary. One can say that the best environment for children is two loving parents where one takes the duty of raising the children. That doesn't mean that people who choose to both work are horrible parents. But to deny the truth of what is better because it hurts your feelings about your life choices is dumb.
But one may be better. That doesn't mean the other is wrong. A BMW is better than a Honda. That doesn't mean that people who drive honda's are horrible people who will never be able to get to work.
That’s true but I think one or the other could be better for different people. I think each person should decide for themselves what works better for them and stop caring what others think, especially if it’s people who don’t know you.

She said she has a very active, supportive husband, and she says she couldn't do it without him.
I don't have seven children, but I have a few, and a career, and so does my husband. It may not have the demands of a legal career, but it's very demanding in its own way. Like the Barretts, we do it together.

I find it interesting that when a well educated Conservative woman with a family breaks through the imaginary glass ceiling and succeeds that liberal feminists try to tear her down. Women can have it all but most won't because it takes an exceptional person to rise to those levels rather than the basic karen with a gender studies degree.
Yeah it’s pretty funny that a bunch of leftist feminist are now saying she doesn’t have enough time to handle her job lmao. She’s a stellar woman. Extremely impressive and seems to have a great moral foundation. Shame on how they’re treating her.
I think she's 1 in a million. I also think she's had to manage her expectations with the husband she selected. For example most women will not date less successful men. Obviously she would rather date someone similar or less than her career wise than someone better, like most women typically are looking for.

If you as a mother would rather have a 'fulfilling' career than stay home raising your kids, you are trash, end of story. I don't care what people are saying about this woman or who they are, doesn't matter to me, what's right is right and what's wrong is wrong and kids want their mother
Unfortunately someone has to work and esp at young ages they need their mother more than their father. I’d say at least until the kids are 8 years old they need their mother.
The time for a woman to pursue a career is after her children are above 8 years of age or if she doesn't have kids, then anytime. I don't really care what women want to do tbh, as a man I am willing to do what I MUST do, and my wife must be willing to do what she MUST do as well. She must raise my children for me, and I will provide resources and be there for my family when I can make the time. As I work from home, I should have ample time to spend with them, but not everyone is so fortunate.
I just want both our first priorities to be raising the family, so if I am providing enough income for that, I would not expect her to want to work. Work is a bunch of bullshit I wish I didn't have to do it, I don't know why it's seen as empowering for a woman to work for some asshole who doesn't give a shit about her when she could be providing benefit to those who love her.
There are plenty of women who enjoy working. I’ve pursued work that I am passionate about. There are other options than working for some other asshole who doesn’t give a shit about her. I must have income of my own. I must have a car in my own name. I must have a bank account in my own name. Those are things I’ve been without as an adult before and I’ll never go back. I don’t have kids yet but having kids wouldn’t change those things. I would be a work from home mom if I were a mom but I’d still need my husband to cook dinner if he’s home and I’m working.
As a kid who grew up with both parents working full time from home im telling you that you do not know what you are talking about. You know your own life. As a woman who doesn’t have kids your decisions make perfect sense, well done, you have your shit together and seem happy with it.
But when you have a family, certain structures and roles are beneficial. Having one partner focus on income and the other on raising the family is ideal, it was the norm for so long for a reason, because it is functional and puts the children’s interests first.
and that's fine if you prefer to go to work than to be with your children, but I think that most children, especially at a young age have a stronger bond with their mother, not to mention she is the one with the giant feedbags on her chest lol, so there is definitely some biological precedent to how our culture traditionally handled this, but hey if you are both happy and the kids have a parent at home to raise them it's all good
what's bad is when the kids are in daycare / parents are too busy to pay them any attention. That is wrong. I just don't like how the modern woman puts so much emphasis on what she wants, her happiness, over that of her children, and I don't ever hear you speaking up about that issue.
That’s a big part of the reason I don’t have kids right now. There are other things I want in life and if I had kids, I would want to give them more of my attention. I just don’t want to do that right now but who knows, that could change in a few years.
I never heard anyone condemn people for having it all. I’ve only ever heard good things until Amy, then it was the opposite. So I guess I think it’s opposite of what you said
Maybe some people, but I think it’s very rare. I never heard anyone say it. I think people should leave Amy alone. She’s highly qualified. Anything “bad” about her that I’ve heard has been just based on their feelings and not on truth.

There are always trade-offs. "career women" cannot rear children the way stay at home mothers can. If we had any sense we would be providing generous incentives for single income households and penalizing double income households.
Taxes would be a natural choice. Single income households are exempt from federal income tax, while double income households have very high marginal rates.
But the taxes change that trade-off. Basically you set it up so that the marginal benefit of a second person earning an income is a small fraction of pre-tax gross. (also in the fifties most households were supported on one income, women joining the workforce drove down wages so everyone had to be two income households, the tax serves to reverse this trend)
