Who is the biggest "cancer" on the Republican Party?

There were many news reports recently about Republican Senate leader Mitch McConnell saying that new Republican House member Marjorie Taylor Greene is a "cancer" on the Republican Party because of her belief in and vocal support for a variety of conspiracy theories.

Greene and others think that McConnell is actually the "cancer" because he doesn't support those conspiracy theories and has not given full unqualified support to Donald Trump on a few issues (like that Trump actually won the election). Some other people think that Donald Trump is the biggest "cancer" in the party and many Democrats think all three are.

The people you mentioned are just the symptoms. The biggest cancer in the Republican Party is the right-wing media, starting with Rush Limbaugh. They have NO accountability for the poison they've been injecting in public opinion for the last several decades, yet they wield tremendous influence. It's not just ideology, but absolute hatred they encourage, labeling anyone who doesn't think like them as the 'enemy', who must not only be defeated, but also be insulted, humiliated, and crushed without mercy.

Newt Gingrich latched the Republican Party on to this wagon train, and decades later, you're now seeing the results: Q Anons who refuse to believe confirmed election results, and want to hunt and gun down Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Nancy Pelosi, and even Liz Cheney. The Republican Party is so afraid of upsetting these conspiracy-theory goons, that they choose to look the other way.

Agreed. I've long thought that Rush was the beginning of all this craziness and the first "cancer" cell. After the Fairness Doctrine was repealed, he began his show spewing distorted or totally false rhetoric with no requirement for any opposing opinion or review of facts. As he gained a following, others jumped on the bandwagon and the "cancer" began to apread. Then, as you pointed out, Gingrich came along and got the Republican Party involved and moved it from localized to systemic. And then Trump came along and fed it and made it spread like wildfire and nearly everyone in a position of power in the Republican Party either stood by idly by and watched it spread or actively helped it to spread. And now the Republican Party is gravely ill and the entire country is seriously ill as a result.

Oh because the liberal media was so quick to accept Trumps confirmed win in 2016. That's why they fueled the flames of insurgency all over the country. That's why antifa attacked (set aflame to) federal buildings and the liberal media just brushed it off.

And of course their hypocrisy showed up just in time to condemn the "terrorist attack" on the capitol building. Damage was so massive that congress was literally able to get back to work same day. Oh how fucking tragic.

Mitch McConnell is the cancer but not for the reason the QAnon crowd believe. McConnell it was who changed the GOP from a conservative political party to a party without policies dedicated to maintaining power at whatever cost, be it turning the GOP into the Tea Party, the Trump Party, the QAnon Party or the Mad Hatter's Tea Party, whichever appeared to be expedient in the short term.

They all are in their own way. Greene shouldn't be allowed on any committees. It's one thing to have a different "opinion" on the events that shape history, but she doesn't have all her oars in the water. How BAD is it when even Mitch McConnell berates her? Really bad.

Let's not forget though, McConnell has his own track record of being both an obstructionist AND an enabler and supporter of Trump, in the past. It's only when Trump "really" went berserk enough in the last 90 days that McConnell spoke out, at which time Trump turned against him too. Of course. It's just that Trump was SO BAD he took all the spotlight off McConnell in 2017 and held it. Trump is a systemic cancer and has been no matter which "party" he flopped to.

I'm more inclined to lean towards saying people like McConnel are the problem with the Republican party. They've been in their roles for decades, on some occasions even enjoyed majority control over government institutions, and yet they do little and accomplish nothing. The establishment Republicans are only interested in fighting for America when they're in the minority and nothing that they say or do actually matters (not unlike how the so-called "moderate" Democrats only vote against their party when it won't actually matter). In fact you could easily make the argument that the reason Trump had and continues to have such a strong following is largely because of worthless "conservatives" like McConnel, Romney, and Kasich.

I think everyone has their problems but many of these people have lost the faith of the people. They fight for re-election over what they believe in. It’s a party system and it’s broken. I want to see a republican that votes democrat when they agree and a democrat that votes republican when it’s right.


I trust people of different opinions more then a party system where every democrat or republican only votes with their party. We need to set term limits and get better people in there.
