No. I don't think their is a root of all evil, but the biggest root of evil in our world is in my opinion, indolence. Sloth however is not necessarily just laziness, it is rather the avoidance of doing what one knows they must do. So currently in our society we have people who are indolent when it comes to doing their due dillegence when it comes to who they vote for and when it comes to the media. They may work really hard physically but they are intellectually lazy and as a result corruption runs rampant. I think that sloth is the greater sin because its what allows for all the other sins to take root.
Lust is just another form of indolence, using sex as a means of self medicating and avoiding doing the work that would actually make you a happier and fullfilled person instead opting for the easier yet less satisfying entertainment.
Drug use is again, another form of indolence, you use drugs or alcohol in order to avoid having to confront the problems that your faced with, to avoid the responsibilities you know you have.
So while I think greed is definitley an evil that affects us, I think Indolence is far worse.
No, *love* of money is the root of all evil. But if we had not money, there would still be greed in other forms. There'd be lust, envy, lies, violence.
I don't think money is the root of all evil.
We created money, we placed value upon it ourselves. If anything, a dollar note just comes down to be a piece of paper. A piece of paper does not cause people to commit acts of murder, theft and robberies etc.
No. money is not the root of all evil.
We are our own cause of evil and misery. We will destroy ourselves with our own hands.
This question is based upon a common misquote. The Bible says that "the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil" (1 Timothy 6:10), not that money itself evil.
For the love of Mammon

Cain slew Abel and I don't think there was any money involved in that crime.
It's not even that bibles are free for the asking these days. You don't even HAVE to ask; if you wait long enough, someone will just GIVE you one. Well, that's here in the US; it's probably not the case in, say, Saudi Arabia. And maybe it's just me, but you'd think that if billions of people think a book idea's are good enough to base your spiritual life around, it's probably worth at least giving it a read.
So, no. LOVE of money is the root of all evil. It's also the root of a lot of good, but few people are comfortable admitting that.
There was plenty of horrible stuff done before money was invented as far as I can tell. Sometimes I think scale and civilization tempt evil much more. For example, if I'm a little primitive tribe in a harsh environment where survival requires everyone to pitch in and cooperate and share, I have no reason to steal the best warrior's spear or bow. Because that would seal my own demise along with everyone else (and chances are that I at least care about some other people besides myself in the tribe). But expand that to like the Roman empire where I'm living with millions of people in a small area and I don't see as much of a blow to my own self-interests and the interests of my loved ones to steal.
Just playing devil's advocate, I'd offer a counter-argument. Money might end at least some conflicts if not creating others because money might tempt us to think we can trade more with the "outside tribe" than just slaughtering them and raping their women and taking their stuff. Money makes trading more efficient and practical over barter.
If the outside tribe wants leather and we don't specialize in producing leather but they have something we want or even desperately need, that doesn't leave us with lots of options without money. We might just have to kill them and pillage their stuff since we can't trade. But with money, we can trade.
Money has nothing to do with evil, neither does power or influence. People make good decisions and people make bad decisions and that decision-making process if it is unfavorable or bad in some way, cannot be blamed on an inanimate object or concept.
For those who make bad decisions, the devil didn't make them do it, money didn't make them do it, and power when referring to political power or influence, is an intellectual abstraction of the human imagination, and cannot corrupt anybody. People bring their own corruption to that situation so power doesn't corrupt people, people corrupt power.
A lack of money is the root of all evil. It breaks up families and marriages. It causes anxiety and stress. It causes a lingering feeling of inadequacy. It will deprive people of shelter and food. An abundance of wealth will alleviate a lot of these issues and is a nice addition to anyone's life.
From what I've noticed, wealth makes people more of what they already are. If they're highly generous, then they'll be even more generous with money. If they're selfish and narcissistic, then they'll be even more selfish and narcissistic with money.
What is money? Why do people desire it? What do they do with it?
The Bible says the LOVE of money is the root of all evil. Accept for the select compulsive collectors, the desire for money is the desire for the stuff money buys/power. The true sin is loving it and placing it an idol.
1 Timothy 6:9-10
(9) But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. (10) For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.
What does money allow you to do?
Money is a tool, yes, but what does money enable one to do?
"If I only had enough money I'd do this or that.'
Money allows to do what you want. It enables one to manifest their will.
Money=will.
"If I were King for a day I'd...".
If you could do anything you wanted... what would you do? Money is usually the limiting factor.
What is the first rule in satanism?
"Do what thou whilst".
You can see it on JayZ's t-shirt.
Do what you want to do.
Placing one's will ahead of God's will.
Money enables one to do what they want.
Against God's will... which, by God's definition, is evil.
If one loved God more than self then money wouldn't be an issue. Love of self is behind the love of money because it enables one to carry out their will.
That's the essence behind that verse.
Not really, I think certain human traits, like greed, power, the feeling or need to be being above everyone else are the roots of evil, especially when combined with how far some are willing to go to achieve it.
Money just happens to be a powerful tool that can allow a person to achieve them, but how one utilizes it, is their own choice, some for good and some for bad.
Money isn't the root of all evil, but it does depend upon the optics as to how money is used & abused.
Money in itself in my perspective are 2 things.
1. We do NEED money - To pay for life's necessities.
2. We all WANT money - To pay for personal enjoyments in life.
When it comes to the negative use of money. (This is not going to be in order, this is just going to pop out of my head as I type this.) People can abuse money for negative gain which brings them satisfaction but nothing positive comes out of it
1. Illegal narcotics
2. Money Laundering
3. Drug & Sex Trafficking
4. To purchase terrible & illegal items & services from dark sources from criminals off of the deep & dark web like guns, hiring a computer hacker, a hitman, and so on.
5. Purchasing unethical & illegal services/bribes for corrupted activity within corrupted sources like criminal gangs, corrupted military, law enforcement, businesses, governments & so on.
I have to believe so. God said " man is sinful by nature and therefore falls short of the glory of god". But even in times of great tragedy and devastation. You see the. People stepping forward and giving assistance in any way they can.
But when you throw money into the mix it completely changes things, And people. Not everyone but most.
I'll even speak for myself the more and more money I make the less Christian I feel. Because as I try to better myself I have setbacks but I handle it and I move forward. And yes I know I've been fortunate in life. But then I see others making one mistake after another. Then they're broke. Then real tragedy hits them and they have no protection. Next you know they're begging for help. And as a Christian I should help. But it makes me angry when another of their problems are avoidable.
It's not the money itself... It's the people that will do anything to attain it (whether illegal or immoral), use it to exploit people that are evil...
No. Money is simply any item with an agreed-upon value which can be used as a general unit of exchange. Since no human can make everything he or she needs by himself or herself, trade is essential. And the only way in which trade can be done without money is barter, which is extremely cumbersome. Thus, money is essential to human life.
No, the LOVE of money is the root of all evil. Everybody else needs money to live. So you better make a bunch if you want to get the ladies, cuz they want to know you can support them and the 84 children they want to have with you in the lifestyle to which they are accustomed.
Yes, the Utility companies charge you out the ass, You can't find anyone to cut your grass for a reasonable cost, Anywhere you go it takes money, All my ex-girlfriends was on low income and we ate reasonably when we went out to eat but I loved each one of them when I was with them
Tools are not to blame, but those who use them. We can not say a knive is evil just because someone decided to use it for murder. Keep in mind, Even before money people committed atrocities. I'm not Religious, but I'm pretty show in the Bible Cain killed Abel not because of money. At the end of the day, money is just pieces of paper we mutually agreed to endow with value.
An obsession with it, a fixation on it as an end not as means, is damaging, as any other fixation.
Since that fixation has received global... acceptance via the governments focusing on GDP as the indicator of their achievement, it has become the most visible/palpable/general error.
The root cause is overpopulation. Which is good for the GDP.
No, it's not. I believe greed, pride, and lust are. Money itself is not inherently good nor evil, it has to do with the intention behind it. Meaning who's hands it's transfering between.
Nope man is the root of all evil.
you could move a 1000 people to a new society not requiring money.
everything they Need provided, people would still steal even though it was given for free.
people would still want more than someone else.
I don't believe it is
I don't believe money changes people. Being rich can change your life and lifstlye, but it doesn't change who you are inside. . It just shows you who a person really is inside; it shows you their underlying character.
No money isn´t the root it´s a symptom which makes evil visible. The problem is the humankind is egoistic and narcisstic is easy for us not to care as long as it doesn´t impact us.
Utter hogwash. Money is the medium by which goods and services are valued and traded against one another- it is a straight tool, no more evil than a gun, a hammer, a rock or a knife.
Evil is an artificial construct of mankind, typically predicated on an exaggerated sense of selfishness. (Note that "artificial" does NOT mean "fake" in this statement.)
I’d say that lust is probably the basis of evil. Not specifically in a sexual way but any form of lust. Be it jealousy, greed, ambition, or envy, when you chase lust you’ll always be chasing it. You can never have enough, do enough, or be enough to fill the desire for more or better. Money factors into this but only as a symptom; money isn’t the root.
Money is a resource. Like gasoline. You can use it wisely and let it run your car. Or burn it and ruin your car. Money isn't any different. You work for it to hopefully use it wisely and buy home with it or burn it and use it for drugs and alcohol. Your choice. You pick your poison. Money is just the means to get you there. Just like a car.
No, not exactly. The real problem is the selfish rich people that only care about money for themselves is the huge problem. No person should filthy rich like Jeff bozo. Why does someone need so much money? While middle class and poor people suffer for them? I'd never be able to be si dan rich and not share or donate some.
No, people are evil. It's not money, drugs, guns or even all the seven deadly. Evil people are selfish and will do anything to suit their needs and wants. Money makes a lot of that easier. Nothing is ever enough.
While most evil is associated with money in some way it's not the root of all evil. For example, mass murdering psychopaths would usually be considered evil yet their psychopathic actions and thoughts usually have little to do with money.
I personally say pride. Those with too much pride feel like everything is owed to them, from sex to success. Harming that pride leads to violence.
is gasoline evil because you can make it into napalm and kill people with it? no. the person is evil the object is just used as a means.
It's not money that is the root of all evil. It's the LOVE of money, that is the root of all evil. Actually, a better translation is; "The love of money, is the root of much evil."
While it is true that humans are likely willing to commit any crime as long as the price of the reward is high enough, money is not the cause of evil. The cause of evil is human nature.
Money is just a representation of goods and services. It is selfishness and greed that gives it a bad rap.
No, it's just a thing. What makes it evil is how people use it.
The WORSHIP of money is the root of evil.
Putting money and material wealth above God's guidelines for a fulfilling life - THAT is the evil.
No. Some religious folks claim this, but still pass the collection plate and hold fundraisers. That always baffled me.
Its the love of the money that is the root of all evil.
A person that loves money is willing to steal, murder, lie and basically anything if the price is right.
Money in a way is just a system for labour allocation.. you could say guns are not evil, people are (maybe, I'm not so sure).
No, money was invented to remove the backbreaking labor required to barter.
No, but in our family, everyone is fighting for money and inheritance. We have to change this to 'Love for money is the source of all evil'.
Interestingly enough , GOD demands men to earn through hard work in order to provide for a woman. She today wants her own money because men have turned out to object to all the female entitlements and expectations of his money spent in her direction. ... Except why is it women who love money more?
The Love of money as told in the greatest book ever , the bible. It makes people lie, cheat , steal, and murder.
Yes and no, incentive is the root of all evil, money is just the key to most incentives
No, selfishness is. Money just makes people act slightly more selfish.
No.
For example, murders who kill innocent people for reasons that have nothing to do with money.
Money itself? No. But a lack of money sure seems to drive people into stupid things.
Money isn't. It's necessary to sustain life. What is the root of all evil is greed.
Not really. You can’t really be evil with money unless someone teach you be evil you don’t know is wrong, and not okay.
Lack of money could be called the root of all evil. Acquiring at all costs especially. Too much money and power tends to corrupt as well
Depends where it derives from and your perspective with it when you aquire it.
Probably, but necessary for motivation and the smooth functioning of a semi-stable economy
It depends how you perceive world, A glass could be half filled or half empty
Money is a religion, and it has a selfish God. All who believe in it value will be corrupted.
Money is the root of a lot of evil, without a doubt. The root of all evil? No.
No, greed is the problem, currency was started as a substitute for barder and trade.
Money isn't even real. It's unearned power that currupts absolutely.
No that's the type of crap rich people use to justify not paying people a decent wage.
You can always see a person's true colours when it comes down to money
There is no evil. It is a man-made term for things we do not consider non-evil :))
In "rich dad poor dad" he says lack of money is the root of all evil
it looks like money can make people evil. If I see illuminati, I can tell money can make people evil
without money, evil people would have nothing to exist for
The Quran 18:46 (Surah al-Kahf)““Wealth and children are but adornment of the worldly life. But the enduring good deeds are better to your Lord for reward and better for one's hope. I think these verses says it all.
