Should someone be canceled for something they did as a child?

Question

A 28-year-old actor was fired from a TV show because he was a bully in middle school. I assume he was between the ages of 10 and 14 at the time. He hit other students, cuss them out, etc, but he was a boy back then. His contract with his agency also got terminated.

What actor was this? As for should this happen, the answer is no. Their is a statue of limitations for a reason, and their is a reason we have laws about prosecuting children, its because they are not fully developed and cannot be held accountable for their actions. We also use to have an understanding that people change as they get older and that we shouldn't go looking through some ones past in order to try and destroy them in the present because if we do that, we are all going to suffer for it because we all have done something we regret or we are ashamed of.

I don't know a single bully who didn't grow up to be an asshole. I've seen a few people 'change' for the better since my teens, but not many and bullies are the least among them.

The dumber bullies end up as career criminals. The smarter ones learn to work within the established rules and become cops, bounty hunters, etc. Law enforcement in all levels is loaded with bullies. It's rare you meet a cop who isn't a bully anymore.

Screw em. It's their nature and you can't change someones nature no matter how hard you wish.

I don't like the cancel culture for things people think or believe, but anything to completely ruin the life of someone who was a bully is ok with me. They terrorize other kids who aren't able to defend themselves and usually there's no one around to protect them. I was fortunate not to be bullied, but I know kids who were and it was horrible. As a girl, we can scream at bullies and scare them away from the person they're bullying and sometimes it helps. If a boy did that he'd get beat up also.

No, obviously not. A society where no one is allowed to be forgiven or we're expected to be in other people's good graces all the time, especially those of strangers you've never even met and do not care about, is not a free society at all.

Of course, Cancel Culture isn't done by any real people. It's almost entirely done by corporations, astroturfing and catfishing as everyday people. A few SJW teenage nitwits and morons on Twitter may join in, on the late end of the cancel bandwagon, but Cancel Culture is almost fully corporate.

When they fired Gina Carano from The Mandalorian, this was made public, as it was Kathleen Kennedy and her "story group" at Lucasfilm who did all of the fake outrage over her supposed "anti-Semitic" IG post about not letting modern society turn into Nazi Germany. If Kathleen Kennedy is leading a campaign of Cancel Culture, then I doubt she's the only one.

It really depends on how bad it was. For being a bully, no, not if he had demonstrated real change and had lived a good and valuable life since then. Kids do stupid things, we know this. If he'd murdered someone then sure, cancel the fuck out of him. Some things you simply cannot atone for.

I once momentarily joined in with other bullies in mocking a fellow student in elementary school, before my shame quickly made me shut up.

I forgave myself long ago, but I now live in fear that my actions in that 5 second period of my life will finally catch up with me, effectively cancelling my entire existence.

Context really matters for something like this. So many things have been chalked up to "boys will be boys" or labelled as "bullying" when the actions have been far more severe, even bordering on criminal. Sports team hazing rituals that included sexual assault come to mind.

But I also understand that middle-school aged kids are immature and can't really be expected to comport themselves as adults. So I think context and details really matter for cases like this. While I'm not necessarily for or against cancel culture, some things are serious enough to require accountability.. at any age.

No you need to punish people close to when it happens when they still are that person. Unless he actually apply for work in a business run by one of his victims. I see no reason for it. If you gave him a job he should fail that job before you can cancel him. If he is bullying his coworkers for example.

Agency did what's best for the show's reputation.
If people stopped watching their show just because of the actor.
