I believe it could happen, as anything is possible. But I don't see it actually happening, at least not anytime soon.
I do think it could be beneficial to individuals, nations, and also the health of the world in general, if the USA were to subdivide into smaller nations. One of the issues the USA faces is that it is so very large, with such vast amounts of resources which ends up becoming very inefficient, and losses ensue. There are countless bureaucrats tucked away into their dark little niches collecting money for doing very little, or for doing a lot of needless things.
Having the country break up into smaller nations might appease some of those extremists on the left or right that are so polarized they "don't work well with others", and are in constant rage about being a part of the same nation as those on the other end of the spectrum. But there could also be a danger there in dividing. Say Texas split off and became some uber fundamentalist military state that started to become dangerous to the the nation (s) bordering it. It would mean war, most likely. Then it would be a case of Americans killing former Americans, all because some definitions got changed of what nation Texas was a part of. This is the ridiculousness of borders, war, and dividing people into groups until it becomes "okay" to kill another human being because they "aren't one of us".00 Reply

The are main federal benefits that a state would need to take on. Military health care and social security to name a few. The cost of the being in the union will have out weight the benefits befor it happens.
Texas and California have populations and resources to make the transition easiest. Not sure about texas but i know California has the two international trade ports that cover over 50% of the United States international trade.00 Reply

Good riddance if California leaves, honestly.

California is 2% of the 50 states, yet is the #1 economy, producing almost 15% of the nations GDP. So, great choice, we'd love to stop carrying all that dead weight and invest those funds back into California where it will continue to flourish.
After a few years of separate economies, it would be even better for Californians, since we'd be able to vacation in the rest of the USA even more cheaply. It would be like vacationing in Mexico, where your money goes farther due to disparity of wealth. - +1 y
@zeitgeist057 Honestly... worth it to not have to deal with the "florishing" politics over there.

@zeitgeist057 Being the number one economy doesn't do you much good if the state's finances are grossly mismanaged. Just look at the people of the state to give you an idea as to how things really are, rather than just the raw numbers. People (especially businesses) are leaving California in record numbers, because the taxes there are far too high and numerous, real estate values are also too high, and the state has social issues that are not being dealt with (like crime, poverty and homelessness).

Yes, people are leaving and houseless because it’s expensive, and yet the prices keep going up and up because others are willing to pay them. It’s basic supply and demand.
I for one am quite happy to live in a state where rent is $2500/month, and I can make $5,000/month because there is money flowing. On top of that, the weather is fantastic, which as you said, draws hordes of nomadic houseless people who can comfortably sleep outside year round.
It’s certainly not for everyone, and many are much happier living in Missouri where rent is only $700/month and wages closer to $2,500/month. For me, the math is better to make more and spend more. Maybe when I retire, I’ll buy a couple houses in other states where it’s cheaper, with all the money I’m making here.
I “look at the people of the state rather than numbers” every day. I don’t have a problem with what I see. The houseless people are here by choice, if they wanted to be houseless in Minnesota, they would. But they don’t, because it would be a death sentence in winter. So they’re here, and getting by (I see the same locals in the parks and on the beach every week). Sure, they drive the poverty numbers up, and because we’re a bunch of dirty commies we pay extra in taxes and provide shelters, meals, food stamps, and outreach services to help them. Which only attracts more. But it’s balanced out by how much money we bring in, I’m not hurting so bad I want to deny some street person a meal. - +1 y
@zeitgeist057 California is 12% of USA population. Therefore, their percent of the economy is about average.

No.
The Constitution allows the admittance of new state. There is nothing concerning succeeding. The Civil War is an indication that the federal government would not allow it to happen again. Texas has no legal ability to succeed. It does have the right to divide itself into four new States making five "Texas" states.04 Reply- +1 y
succeed
[sək-sēd′]
intransitive verb
- To come next in time or order.
- To replace another in office or position: synonym: follow.
- To accomplish something desired or intended.
Sounds scary! :-o - +1 y
haha, what if all the states started sub-dividing intentionally to get more votes in the Senate (since each new state gets 2 senators)? Then we became the 1,294 states of America?

no worries I assumed your intended meaning.
6K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I think it is in Texas's annexation agreement that they withhold the right to secede. If any political leaning was serious about it they would dominate the state, run out everyone who disagrees with them, and do it for real. But that's not what's happening.

I'm interested in hearing why so many people keep talking about a "Civil War" and states breaking away from the USA?
What's the logic behind this?01 Reply- +1 y
I don't know if it qualifies as "logic" per say, but it's a result of the nation becoming more and more polarized and divisive in their politics. Everything turns into a "blue vs. red" issue, I swear to god, you can post a photo of a bunny rabbit eating a cucumber on Facebook, and 3 comments down there's a political discussion breaking out with some loose relevance to rabbits.
I'm a bit lackadaisical about it, because I feel like people are acting like idiots, but a lot of them feel very strongly about these issues. The leftists totally hated Trump and acted like little babies while he was President, now it is the right wing's turn to act like babies while Biden is President. They disagree on some fundamental issues like abortion, gun control, civil rights for minorities (and who qualifies to be a minority), etc, etc. They get so riled up and in their heads, they turn the other side into slavering monsters. So this is the start of the "Civil War" talk, because they're too stupid to work things out peacefully.

Ted Cruz is a complete idiot, its one thing to want to succeed from America but he thinks Texas should get the military, Nasa, and oil supplies. He's seriously delusional 😂., and these people call themselves patriots smh
16 Reply- +1 y
Yes, I was really surprised when it was said he wants the military. The oil and NASA I can understand though.
- +1 y
Even the NASA and oil is ridiculous because if he wants to separate from America why is he trying to take shit especially important things like that
- +1 y
I'm not sure, but I think he just meant the oil that Texas produces, which is far more than any other state. I don't think he meant that Alaska will need to ship all its oil directly to the new country of Texas.
I'm guessing the rest is along the same lines. Just the soldiers who call Texas home, just the part of NASA that is based in Texas, etc. - +1 y
@zeitgeist057 Oh okay that makes more sense but that's about it, I don't know why he thinks Texas is entitled to the military and Nasa 😂
- +1 y
maybe he thinks the Johnson Space Center in Houston is NASA's HQ?

the only thing that will happen is that the bigger state [country] will take over the smaller one. and so on till it is one big country again and then they want to break off into smaller independent countrys . sound familiar LOL
00 Reply Countries are very fragile in nature one mistake or weak leader it will tear apart.
But I don't think it is possible in near future.00 Reply18.4K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Cruz is an idiot. The red states are 1:10 in the red, meaning every dollar they make, they need 10 from the government. Texas is about 1:1, so iffy if they could make it.
01 Reply- +1 y
Texas is actually one of the few red states that could make it, as long as they didn't end up with a bunch of tagalong leeches with the 1:10 you mentioned like Alabama, Mississippi, etc.

Could? Absolutely. Would? Maybe. Things have not calmed down that much.

I would love to kick out California, Oregon, NY and NJ out of the us
14 Reply- +1 y
You would accomplish "kicking out" over a quarter of the nation's GDP with your choice of only 4 of the 50 states.

California would love to stop having to financially support all those red states that continue to suck resources that California contributes to the federal budget. Biting the hand that feeds, tsk, tsk.

lol excellent argument, exactly what I expected. You're absolutely right, no need to let facts and figures get in the way of your emotions.
