Do you think dogs should be banned?

Question

with the number of children that have been seriously injured and sometimes even killed and the great risk that they pose I think it’s best to ban dogs altogether.

Also I don’t care how much training they have. All dogs have the potential to be dangerous to humans.

As someone who's been around tons of Pits, Boxers, German Shepherds, Etc. No.

The fact that you're ignoring their level of training is ignorant at best, as training and treatment from their owner heavily influences big dog breeds.

Pits for example. They're highly intelligent, loyal, and people oriented as they were bred for human companionship. They love their owners so much that they're actually prone to separation anxiety from being away from their master for too long. They love learning tricks and when brought up in a loving environment are very affectionate and gentle to everyone in the house, including children.

Obviously any child playing with a dog needs to be supervised as they could unintentionally rile the dog up and cause it to bite which whether playful or not, is still liable to hurt the kid. (I know from experience lol) But if the child has been taught how to interact with a dog without riling them up too much, it's perfectly safe for them to play together.

In short, even a breed as widely known these days as vicious as Pits aren't in reality the killing machines people think they are, and a lot of times it's mistreatment from their masters that cause them to hurt people.

I'm sorry but this logic is ridiculous. If we start banning dogs because they could be dangerous then the same logic should apply to everything. Cheeseburgers because they could cause someone to have a heart attack, knives because someone could cut themselves, all medicines because someone could have a severe side effect from it... see what I'm saying... it's silly to say "all dogs should be banned" when there's such a low percentage of risk. There's a better chance the preservatives and pesticides in our food will kill us than dogs.

Im not a pet person. Dogs are fine but from a distance. Im not trying to be indoors with them or any “domesticated” animals (cats, snakes, ferrets, lizards, rabbit, hamsters, etc) and would prefer not to date someone who allows pets indoors

it’s not the dog is the owner, in pretty much all cases attacks by dogs are down to shit irresponsible owners.

Yes assume dogs will attack etc, therefore don’t leave alone with a small child unsupervised.

I'm not a fan of dogs at all. Dogs are like my second biggest fear. That said, no I don't think they should be banned. I just think dog owners should always remember that they are very temperamental creatures. But dogs are used for a lot of good. They become like family to a lot of people. There are comfort dogs and seeing eye dogs and dogs that help with PTSD. So no, I don't think they should be banned.

Not ALL dogs, but I agree that certain species should be banned. You have a greater chance of getting mauled by someone's dog, than you do by a wild animal. The fact that, "certain species aren't aggressive, the owners are" is a load of crap.

I think at the very least there should be stronger leash laws, and laws to eradicate aggressive strays.

Hell no, I can't imagine not having dogs as pets. I think a better option is banning stupid people that abuse them which causes the dogs to become aggressive. Any animal can become aggressive towards humans if mistreated or approached incorrectly so may as well ban birds, gerbils, cats, horses too... I've been bitten or nipped by all of them too so they should get the ban hammer as well!

I think it's all got to do with the bloodlines of these dogs
there is some Pitbulls that are great but there are ones that
are bad, yes it happens, I know a story of these couple owned
a German Shepherd and the dog was always a good dog and
had a great temperament but these people had an infant they
left the room for a couple of minutes and come back to the room
with their baby was killed by the German Shepherd so yes it happens.
