For those who don't know what MGTOW is: MGTOW is an acronym for Men Going Their Own Way, an online social movement and backlash to feminism where men renounce interactions with women and seek to define and live out their masculinity on their own terms. Do you consider it to be misogynistic? Or necessary temporary? Or necessary for long term? I personally think it's necessary for both short and long term. There shouldn't be anything wrong with abstaining from relationships and women in general because women do it to men too.
MGTOW means you do your own thing without regards to women.
I eat what I want, work out when and how I want , travel when and where I want to go and do my own thing. One does not live for the approval of a woman. This idea seems counter intuitive to most people (both and men and women ) because we have all been conditioned to believe that you MUST have a relationship to be a happy and complete person. The current zeitgeist says that a man must do everything to impress and keep a women - new car? new house? fancy cloths , good job? We men have been trained to believe that we must have those things to keep her happy and show her how much of a man one is. As far as I am concerned MGTOW is a way of saying "fuck you bitch , you ain't getting shit from me"
MGTOW is a movement where men forgo women - in many cases these men have been screwed over through divorce and there is a lot of anger. But can you blame them when they lose half their shit and they become indentured servants due to alimony and child support for the next several decades? I am surrounded by married men and none of them seem very happy. Almost all of them them tell me to remain single. As for women I truly believe that they see men as resource providers and nothing more.
Either way, I have my job, my money , my various financial investments and I am content with things as they are.

If more men seriously reflected about their relationships with women - their moms, wifes, girlfriends, and to an extent their daughters and sisters - they would see that women do not stick around where there isn't money and free food. They will NEVER pull their own weight.

There is a lot of truth in what you say. In a lot of cases, men do get the shitty end of the stick when it comes to divorce and child custody. I would like to see more fairness in that aspect. So when men truly choose to go their own way, I totally get it. Women too. They also swear off relationships because of how their men treated them in the past. That being said, I just want to point out to you that, yes, men are told that you have buy things for a woman to keep her happy. But don’t forget, women are told that we are princesses who deserve nothing less than the entire world. You see those bullshit Valentine’s Day commercials? The size of his love for you is directly proportional to the size of the diamond he buys. 🙄 It props up women’s expectations to an almost unachievable level, and makes many men feel inadequate as a result. If my husband brought me home a diamond…well…he wouldn’t. Because I don’t wear jewelry. And it’s not because we can’t afford it, but because there are better things to spend our money on. With the community? I don’t. It’s usually a pretty healthy community geared toward helping men achieve success and potential while warning them of the dangers of choosing relationships with the current laws in place. I do wish some who identify with the community would try to set a better example though. Too many people already associate mgtow with incels, when they’re nothing alike.

Most of the MGTOW crowd I have dealt with seem to be butt hurt boys who had a bad experience and who now would rather blame all women rather than taking responsibility for their own flaws and addressing their deficiencies if the dating arena. If you want to drop out of the "competition," it's not hurting those of us who know how to date women.
My biggest issues with MGTOW is that they do not inherently believe in their own supposed philosophy. Its a reactionary group, meaning they are doing all this nonsense as a way to combat Feminism rather than fight for any given issue they claim to care about. The fact that they choose to go with this cosplay in their attempts to undermine Feminism as opposed to literally any other fake cause is also incredibly pathetic.
Its a male supremacist group pretending to be the victims in the most humiliating way imaginable to the point where I feel compelled to feel embarrassed FOR them since they appear to be incapable of registering that emotion.
If it was JUST a shallow attempt to undermine Feminism by inventing a pathetic fake counter movement that would be one thing. Or they feel like they’ll be broadly rejected and they’re “spinning the story” and rejecting the women first. So I mean, whatever, I don’t expect anyone to participate in any kind of social customs or norms, I’m all about doing what works for you. Just if you’re single, just be single, don’t be like “I’m single…. and it’s all these fucking women’s faults!!!” Nobody wants to be around that kind of negativity.

I think MGTOW is in a lot of ways similar to feminism. Bitter dudes generalize and say women ain't shit, just like bitter feminists say men ain't shit. I definitely believe red pill and the manosphere are needed for men because there are a lot of important topics, like self-respect, setting boundaries and vetting that are discussed, but for society to continue existing, families are needed. Now it would be perfectly fine if those MGTOW dudes were to do that for themselves and amongst themselves, as long as their don't promote their life style and try to normalize it. Do I think modern 304s are a pain in the ass? Without a doubt. Instead of leaving women altogether, I will focus more on learning how to vet them better, because I believe in family values. I hear all kinds of stupid bs from MGTOW "brothers" calling marriage-minded men "weak" and "simps" when half of those dudes are straight up lying about their "value" and some of them cannot back up what they say. I am more for a permanent solution over a reaction, and yes I just compared MGTOW to feminism. Both are destructive, and both are useless.

I’m not going to lie I use to be one when I was in my early 20s. It was all because of my insecurities of being a virgin. I thought I was virgin because I was ugly or something or like a lot of the videos say it’s because you’re weak and no woman wants weak men. I lived my parents and needed someone to take care of me, so I thought it was true. I thought it was because I was stupid and an underachiever. but when I finally got a job then I notice a lot of women saying I’m handsome. I thought they were bullshiting me. All it took was a girl who was nice and understanding for me to realize mgtow is just bs. She could tell I was really insecure because at hiding my feelings. She would always ask me why you don’t have a girlfriend you’re really cute. But I was too sucked into my belief I thought it was some manipulation. I got mad and said some mgtow bs and she didn’t snap back at me. And she told me there’s nothing wrong with you, you’re just confused and calmed me down. I want to go more into details about it but I can’t because I don’t want people knowing it’s me.
I thought women being nice was all it took too. Until one falsely accused me of stalking out of nowhere. Then that all changed. And I fully embraced going my own way.

I had no idea I was that charming. The teachers use to tell me I'm such a pretty boy or handsome, but I thought it was bs because most people said I was ugly. The more hateful a movement or idealogy is the more backlash they will get. But the next step of MGTOW is to develop one's own talents, one's own skills, one's own hobbies. And not doing any of this because the ladies might like it, but for its (and their) own sake. And once the men have achieved this, they are much better off, even in terms of attracting women! ]
But the key point is that men have to do this for themselves, not for any woman. And focusing upon and developing themselves IS a good thing.
I have no issues with MGTOW, except for the men who don't actually ascribe to it. They are MGTOW in name only, but keep complaining about women and the bad things some of them do. Those "MGTOW" are no better than feminists. But the concept of taking care of yourself and not relying on serving women, a boss, etc, I think if neat. Though not for most men. I'd maybe be MGTOW, but I haven't given up on women yet, even if they've given up on me a long time ago cause I'm a short-sh*t and not a 10/10 in looks. However, I'm doing my best to go my own way regardless, and IF a woman is meant for me in the future (knowing how they are, it's unlikely), I'd be open to the idea, but not willing to throw caution to the wind to be with her.

I don't know about abstaining from relationships, but I'm a firm believer that all men should go on a personal journey and tap into their masculinity. As much as society wants to say that masculinity is "toxic", it's how we evolved to be a successful species. It's pivotal for society that men do this. The rise of feminism correlates strongly with demasculinisation of men which has resulted in less women being happy in relationships, higher divorce rates, and men having lower self esteem, amount other things. Engaging strongly with our masculinity might not sit right with people, but the truth is that is just how we are designed to be, irrefutable fact.
i think that Guys who are rejected by women and not physically attractive and possibly picked on or had a terrible run in with an ex girlfriend may resort to mgtow as some sort of coping system to make themselves feel better, So instead of thinking" I can't ever get a girlfriend" they think " I dont want a girlfriend because if i did she would use me" Its a psychological defense system they use to pervent emotional harm or lack of self of stem, Or one could of had a really terrible girlfriend and for some reason he thought that all other women were the same as well. The movement has two laudable core ideals: Men need to set goals for themselves instead of prioritizing women Men need to establish standards for themselves instead of appealing to the standards of women
Too many men project their new-found self-service out at women as a way of taunting them or expelling their frustrations. Many in the community use these ideals as a means to elevate themselves for the goal of being a top-level man, again to troll women. Men who keep to themselves should be servicing themselves and stop bothering with women in any romantic or pseudo-sexual fashion. Those bad actors give the entire movement a bad name.

To be fair I think there are really problems which its a reaction to, and although it would be easy to make fun or dismiss it, it doesn't dismiss the very real pain that a lot of men feel. That all said I don't think over all its very healthy for anyone. If a man deicides that he doesn't want to date, thats his choice and I trust him to make the right one for him. I don't have a relationship, and it required literally zero effort on my part.
No movement, no ranting online about women, no complaining or preaching.
Granted, I want a relationship, but thats not the point.
The point, is that these guys are harping on past relationships, instead of just living their lives, and it just doesn't scream "going your own way" to let women who wronged you suck away your free time by letting them rent out space your head, long after you stopped talking to them.
I was defacto doing this for a long time, by avoiding intimate relationships. Biggest issue was the lack of self development... staying stuck in my wounded frame, failure to contribute to the life of a woman whom loved me, creation of offspring, building a family, having support, someone to enjoy life with... to name a few.

In the 21st century, the humans brain has been usurped by digital technology. I see it in younger folks all over. Every thought is a binary choice. There is no context. No measure of relative value. Everything is, yes/no, love/hate, on/off. Best day ever or worst day ever. The human mind was not meant to function like an on/off switch. Our brains have billions of complex connections and digital technology has corrupted out thought process. Maybe that is why Mental Illness is surging. We have reverted back into tribalism and it is not positive process for society.
Men are free to live their lives however they want. To my knowledge, they've always been living their lives the way they want. So not sure why there should be a movement for it.
Men who are in a relationship aren't doing their own thing. Especially married men. When a man is in a relationship it's no longer about him. It's about his girlfriend/wife. I don't really have an issue with it per se, but I used to be into that stuff in my early teens and then in my later teens I dropped the idea due to realizing that in my opinion the whole movement is about doing something that a guy should've already been doing. It shouldn't take a movement to act like you got some sense.

I think it’s basically become such a widespread movement because men don’t have a lot of guidance or support from institutions or really anyone. Especially men who grew up without fathers in their lives. It’s helped me prioritize things in my life and make some solid friendships along the way.

I’m all for men not wanting anything to do with women relationship wise and thriving on their own, it’s great and could even be inspirational. my only issue is that most of the time (at least from what I’ve witnessed) the men apart of mgtow all just let women consume their lives and every thought. The branding for this movement isn’t great though. I originally interpreted it as men becoming gay because of women, which in 2021, wouldn’t surprise me if such a movement existed.
I know nothing about them but, ss long as they aren't going around hurting people... all power to them. If they don't want to talk to women in dating scene, that's their right. I don't see how it affects me.
My biggest issue is that the forums don´t provide you with solutions but give you other guys complaining about situations and their problems with women. I feel they never come over the status of complaining. I personally also find the idea of being independent of women and living life happy as a single man without a relationship or sex but I feel like MGTOW is just a group of guys that isn´t any different to incels.

I don't think men need to start a movement for it.
They simply need to work on their self respect so that they stop disempowering themselves and lacking healthy boundaries with women by letting themselves be pushed around and letting their needs go unmet.
But I mean that's something everyone should do with everyone, not just a man thing.

If it turned into a community of men that educate and teach men how to set healthy boundaries with women that could be beneficial yes. However it also holds the potential to just be a group of men complaining about women and having a victim mindset, like women have done with feminism. So I think it definitely would have to be done properly like you said. It couldn't be about "poor me, women hurt me, women suck". It would need to be more empowering and informative of boundaries. But if done properly as you said, yes it would be great for men to do that.
It sort of reminds me of the "international women's Day" thing where the majority of mentions online for men's day is during woman's Day with men complaing about a lack of a men's day... But there is one it was the other week, just men don't care enough to support it for various reasons you can guess at...
The fact that its a modern movement. Many modern movements that have come up over the last few years are completely ignoring a central idea and are devaluing themselves and the idea of a movement. The idea of making friends instead of enemies is all but lost on many modern movements.
People who are against MGTOW are the people who think it has anything to do with feminism. It doesn’t help that there are angry men out there who say dumb shit.
MGTOW is basically men who want to be left alone. You never see or hear of MGTOW protesting or harassing feminists. You do see or hear of it going the other way.

I don’t really have an issue with it. It’s for the best. Even when considering the toxic parts, I see it as all part of the process. It’s analogous the the five stages of grief thing. Men newly confronting the situation may well begin very frustrated and even toxic. It takes them as long as it takes them to move on, often going through a stage which tries to adapt and focus on improving game in order to get attention from women while remaining emotionally distant. Ultimately, there’s acceptance of women’s flaws, accepting the world for what it is, forgiveness of nature, self reliance, etc. I’ve seen guys come in angry, wade into red-pill dating philosophy gain confidence with women, repair their self esteem and move on from MGTOW acting like it was toxic and bad when really it obviously helped them a bunch. Really it was the place they got to vent, and seeing other men in the early stages makes it look bad. But it’s all part of the process.

Too many of them are borderline incels or incels.
I say borderline because some of these guys have kids or girlfriend or ex wives.
a lot of these dudes do not wanna compete. They just wanna whine and complain. And I think a lot of them live with their family members or parents.
Women opinion do not matter. When your financially stable. These dude make 30-50k/complain.

The fact that instead of actually going their own way they spend all theirs time online talking about doing it and waiting for us people to actually care.
The reality is that the ones starting out in MGTOW are still venting their anger, or, because they wish someone had told them about it sooner, they feel the need to be "MGTOW Evangelists". But in time, they will get past that.
It reminds me too much of the trolls on gaming forums who would make "I quit" posts every week in a desperate bid for attention. It's even in the name "men GoiNg their own way" locked in a perpetual state of announcing their departure but never actually leaving.
Men have gone their own way throughout history. But they never felt the need to join a club to do so. They just did what they want. They don't need to join a circle jerk and repeat the mantra, "I'm going my own way".
If they want to walk to the other side of the room, go ahead. No need to announce it to the world. That's just lame.
The movement itself? None. Considering what kind of bullshit modern feminism is allowed to push, I can understand that guys just say "fuck it" and live their lives without getting into a relationship. Wouldn't do it, but I can understand it. Now, as with feminism, there are many rotten apples in there, just plainly hating on women as a whole, and that is not acceptable. On top of being stupid. Instead of just putting women aside of their lives, they live just to go against women.
What a person chooses to do with their life provided they are not violating the law is not really anybody else's business. Women don't control men and men don't control women. I don't really identify with MGTOW but I do live a single life and am happy. I'm not sure why all of a sudden MGTOW is something people are so concerned about. I see name calling etc. Why? Just let the guys be.
It seems like disgruntled men hating on women. There are legitimate issues with women's choices, selection of guys, dating protocols etc, but bitching about how the opposite sex is worthless is probably not the best way to go about it.
52% of American society over the age of 16 is single, 60% of marriages are unhappy. Choosing to be single is hardly abnormal in todays relationship climate. MGTOW is simply saying what many already know, The institution of marriage is not healthy and they have no desire to take part in it any longer.
MGTOW is the same as modern day feminism. Sounds good on paper but poorly executed and full of desperate and pathetic people. It's also very ironic cause most of them MGTOW gurus talk shit about going your own way being away from women but then their whole platform is based on that Women. And the comments are also filled with people who constantly talk about women. It's kind of fun to watch them in their habitat and constantly contradicting their beliefs.
The problem with MGTOW is that it consists of men that have been severely burned. In our society, almost 100% of young men trust women until after they have been severely burned. And, since, about half never get severely burned, almost all young men believe if they get into a relationship they will not be harmed.

We live in a Democratic society, as long as no one is calling for the death of, harm of, or hurt of another person, they should be free to chose what they want to believe in. I'm not MGTOW, but I've got no problem with guys who are.
My biggest issue is your need to label yourself. It's ridiculous. My next issue is the pronunciation of the label you give yourself. Do you pronounce it as letters or a word?
I’d be fine with MGTOW if they actually went their own way. Instead, many are just bitching and moaning about women in many misogynistic ways on the internet.

I don't have issues with them nor feminists either.
I just figure everyone has a reason for their views and if people would listen to why people hold those views rather then just jumping to demonize them we'd live in a lot better world.
That they don’t actually go their own way. Many spend an infinite amount of time crying on the internet about how awful women are. I have zero issues with men who really do go their own way. Go on! Git!!
Some are just whiney incels who need to tell themselves they are single by choice, when in truth, they would take up with any women who simply glances their way. You can tell who they are because they are usually the most judgmental towards women.
I consider myself mgtow and I refuse to have relationships. I still find certain women incredibly attractive but I believe that the more attractive they are the farther away from them I should be. Not for their sake but for my own. Also I’m quite judgmental of women too. For obvious reasons resting to my past experiences. If I see a video or come across a conversation discussing something I’ve been through involving women I speak up about it.
Discussing MGTOW and the reasons why men choose to go that way isn’t the same as bitching and whining about how women are ruining the world because they don’t want to stay bare foot and pregnant. You just have to look around GaG for examples of what I’m talking about.

At least in the US, women have weaponized the legal system and use it against men very effectively. All it takes to lose everything you have is one false accusation of sexual misconduct from a woman. Men get absolutely RAPED in divorce. Women have the advantage in virtually all personal relationships and are never faithful due to hypergamy.
Do you really blame men for not wanting to be around people who can wreck their life with one legal filing or one accusation?
They either ignore human nature rather than accept it, and/or some or most aren't really choosing to go their own way as much as they're incels with slightly more self-respect.
