The first thing to realize is that it's no accident that this is occurring in Democrat-run jurisdictions. The left has made a strong effort to elect prosecuting attorneys who pledge to "rethink" law enforcement. Which means in part that they don't take property crimes seriously. Without the deterrence of vigorous law enforcement you get lawlessness.
Interestingly enough, this is happening when BLM/ANTIFA are calling for boycotts of what they call white-owned businesses for the Christmas shopping season. But the boycott only extends to making purchases and not the looting that is happening. The left wants us all to understand the rage and view the looting through the lens of restorative social justice.

As for what should be done? That's simple common sense. Restore vigorous enforcement of the law and hold the perpetrators accountable to the full extent of the law instead of --- at most --- releasing these thugs on a misdemeanor citation instead of arresting them on felony charges and setting a meaningful cash bail.

1. Change the law ( I think you can steal up to 950 in California.

2. Add longer time

3. Add more jails

4. Add more police department is say double the budget and hiring of 2019.

Those caught should be facing robbery charges as appropriate, as well as the organized crime charges they earned by pre-planning this group robbery.

For a punishment, someone has to write a charge, someone has to prosecute it, someone has to hear the case, enter a conviction and then set a punishment.

Any one doesn't happen and there is no punishment.

In Charlottesville, the cops are too afraid to write the charge and one of the magistrates says any evidence against a black person "isn't evidence" (no I don't know what that means) so charges never even get written.

This gets a lot of people angry but the KKK had the right to protest, like it or not. It was the people who went down there and attacked them who started the violence.

All those guns, nobody got shot and one guy hit someone with his car trying to get away from a group of people attacking him. I'm not saying he wasn't guilty. I'm just saying there is a lot of bias.

If they charged the people who started the violence Instead of the guy who recklessly ran away from it people wouldn't keep starting it.
