There's no mystery. In left-leaning cities around the country, district attorneys have been appointed who not only aren't prosecuting such cases, they ANNOUNCED IT ON TV AND TWITTER! This isn't an accident or happenstance, it's INTENTIONAL. They want to create chaos (looting, rioting, stores closing, etc.) because they want citizens to be in fear, so that they will demand that the government does something about it, which will then prompt bills that give away more individual rights to give more power to government. More power means being in control of more money and more people, and being able to manipulate more things in their favor.
They're also doing land grabs. If they can destroy all the businesses in a downtown area, for example, they'll crash the real estate prices in that area. Then they'll buy up all of those properties at firesale prices, and once they own them, they'll start enforcing the laws again, raise the value of those properties, and be able to charge high rents again. Who loses? The individual owners and small businesses, because those are the people who will be forced to sell when their property value crashes and they can't rent out their space and can't get insurance due to rioting, looting, and arson.
When you go to the media an ANNOUNCE that people can commit crimes with NO CONSEQUENCES, no one should be shocked when those crimes skyrocket. That was the plan in the first place, but this time, they're using race as a justification (the implication is that because many of the criminals are black, that these laws are unfair). That's the Left's solution: let everyone commit the crimes, so that there is "equality."
Crime rates in developed countries are generally on a decline and will continue to decline for the foreseeable future. The reason why smash and grabs are becoming more popular (honestly not even sure this is true but ill take your word for it) is because the effectiveness of police making other forms of robberies unrealistic.
Basically, once you trigger an alarm these days you only have so much time to take what you can and get out before the cops respond and once they do you are very unlikely to get away with it. For successful smash and grabs you are not really talking about minutes, you are talking about precious seconds and if the police fails to respond then you might just get away with it.
The days of criminals doing bank robberies where they hold hostages and negotiates with police are pretty much over.

The widespread looting that happened last year was a precursor to it. So many people got away with that without being caught and with no punishment. That really showed a bad example. So probably copycats, or it could even be some of the same people doing it.

It's really nothing new... And it happens because people rather steal then work hard and also they don't fear the consequences, because our judicial system and society seems to cater to criminals🤷

the criminals found out that large numbers of people hitting the store at the same time is a very effective strategy as they overwhelm the store clerks and any security guards with the sheer numbers of people coming in all at once. and they can grab everything and be out of the store really fast often before the police are even called. they are going in when the store is open so they are not triggering alarms that are on when the store is closed. and they have everything and are out so fast they are getting to their cars before calls are even made. they found it works very well and so it is likely to become a very popular way to rob stores. if a lot of people start using that method you could see large numbers of stores closing up then you will be unable to buy a lot of things as there will be no stores to buy them at.
Because there are no repercussions to these individuals who are doing these crimes. What is now considered a misdemeanor used to be a felony regardless of the value of what they were stealing. If you allow people to not only avoid a heavier fine determined by the value of what is stolen and allow them early bail of release, you are enabling them to continue it.
This is namely happening in cities like New York, San Francisco, etc. Any city that is allowing the public figures and DAs to set the rules is what is causing this to happen.
I don’t really care since wage theft is a way bigger problem and has stolen trillions more than any robber has done, also morally it’s ethical to steal from a big ass corporation that probably does deplorable stuff anyways. This is an unpopular take but it’s true

The rate of homeless Americans has increased during Covid 19 and all America has done is further stigmatize and criminalize homelessness?

I also never condoned violence or robbing, I’m saying that shit exists for a reason. But individual robberies don’t steal nearly as much as multinational corporations do through wage theft. And if you want to talk about violence, corporations participate in violence against those in developing nations, it condones violence against bio diversity, violence against animals, and the eventual violence that will happen if they continue to exasperate our current climate crisis
There's no actual wage theft though, it's a buzzword which avoids any specificity, it's for people who don't understand the problems and have an agenda. Meanwhile there are real causes that are being ignored. Talk about *real* things like inflation, centralization, big tech, lockdowns, mandates, spending bills, corporations pushing these political agendas. These are the real things, not wage theft.

That's not a pressing issue at all. Wage theft is not one of the major factors impacting people's wages today. Actual wage theft is easy to prove and gets charges filed, that's why it's not an efficient way to get money. There are more profitable ways and corporations are doing it through authoritarian control and political messaging which panders to the left.
This whole wage theft angle is some archaic 19th century assessment of economics and you're falling into that trap laid by the establishment.

Most wage theft happens in very small amounts on a huge scale, and in cases where evidence for wage theft is found it’s rare the employees are able to take it to court against these multi million dollar companies that will most likely get no more than a slap on the wrist at best if found guilty and at worst they’ll use their money to pay for the best lawyers money can buy.

Often it’s less than before and it impacts *everyone*. Furthermore it changes the valuation of employees in the eyes of employers, meaning, if they have to pay more then they’ll have to hire less to compensate and bump up their prices (inflation).

It's not unusual for theft to increase around the holiday season. That along with other factors such as law changes and theft not being a priority.

The places that this are happening aren't prosecuting thefts under a certain dollar amount.
Multiple reasons. A big one is lax prosecution of property crimes, and the big push to reduce prison sentences. And covid, which caused the release of a lot of people to ease crowding in local jails.
Because of defunding the police. Fewer cops, more crime.
