Why would you sell somebody green firewood in January?

I'm trying to understand why these country boys just brought me a truckload of green firewood. What is the rationale? It's January, the coldest month of the year around here. And there's snow on the ground. Did they think I wanted to wait until next year to burn it?

Also, I was reading you could dry it out in the oven for an hour. Is that true?

Well, I just sent him a message to bring me seasoned wood and take his green stuff back. We'll see how much integrity he has.

He said he'd be back on Friday. I guess he's busy all week delivering green wood to people to use next January. Clearly I'm in the wrong business if this is so lucrative.

But I've been enjoying baking it in the oven. 300 degrees for 2 hours

Looks like silver birch to me. It'll burn green at a push. They probably stole it.

That's not a real picture. It's oak and maple. Can I put it in the oven at 220 degrees farenheit for 2 hours? I read it was as good as kiln dried at that point.

It's cheaper. You might find drying solutions by looking up "wood kilns." Either a DIY project or maybe a local business that have huge kilns. Using ypur basic oven might not be efficient enough.

Green firewood isn't going to burn well, if at all. Firewood requires at least 6 months seasoning. Good to request dry seasoned firewood from the guy... let us know if he follows through.

i tried to measure the temperature with my laser thermometer. It goes over 800 degrees. It's crazy.

If the price is low enough to save for next year. It would be very hard and expensive to dry out green wood to burn for this year! DO NOT BURN GREEN its dangerous and creates lots of creosote in your chimney!
