But they don't talk incessantly about stuff and what they are buying next.
DO you find Old Money less materialistic and more lethargic than New Money?
But they don't talk incessantly about stuff and what they are buying next.
Old money types tend to view you as a barely servicable monkey. Why would they brag in front of a monkey?
New money were once you, or more likely a richer version of you, they typically would still be in shock they can actually have that yacht within a bigger yacht and like to show it off.
Old money is terrible.
I was at an old money girls house to watch a DVD and she says
"you will have to come back tomorrow after the electrician has arrived to plug in the DVD player."
I plugged in the DVD player and she says "how did you don that when you don't have a Facebook?"
I met her in a supermarket and she says "I am baking brownies for City Club. What is in your trolley? You can't have no fruit you will get scurvy!"
We were talking and she says "Sorry if I am not making good conversation I don't have much practice talking to one person at a time"
Family was visiting an old-ish money family. My dad fixed their TV (think he just made sure everything was plugged in and restarted it) and they were all astounded. But hey, if you have never done something before it is difficult to you. Whether it is fixing a tv or investing.
The scurvy thing is hilarious! And sort of true if you plan to go pirate or sailor for a long time. Good on her teaching you that!
And conversational skills really are taught and practiced. I actually approve of her understanding it as a to-be-refined skill and being upfront about her lacking proficiency in it as of yet.
There certainly is a gap there of course. The topic of inheriting wealth is complicated. It is an evil as far as the economy is concerned, but to many of us it is a driving force to be able to leave something behind too.
