+1 yI certainly wouldnāt go as far as condoning any of Russiaās recent actions, but the side of the story that I think gets ignored is that Russia has every right to look out for its own best interests and to try to establish itself as a world superpower. In America, and just the western world in general, I think we get caught up in this self-centered and erroneous belief that AMERICA absolutely, positively HAS TO BE #1 in everything, and while thatās easy to root for as an American, thatās not necessarily objectively true.
Ever since WW2, I think we perceive ourselves as āthe good guysā wearing the white hat, the hero of the storyā¦. but are we REALLY? Hitler is dead and gone. The reset button has been hit, every new skirmish is a new skirmish, nobody is automatically the āgood/bad guyā, thatās often pretty relative to personal perspective when you arenāt dealing with something like genocide.
So in this caseā¦. tough to defend Putinās actual invasion. But if you listen to his speech a few weeks ago, even taking into consideration that this guy is probably trying to spin the narrative both to his own citizens and to the rest of the world, his beef seems basically rooted in America and NATO countries trying to stymie Russia at every turn and prevent them from growing stronger, like weāre still punishing them for being The Soviet Union for all those years, and thatās admittedly pretty ridiculous. You canāt just try to stop the Russias and Chinas of the world from doing stuff just because itās not necessarily beneficial to America. You want to try to stop them from wrongfully invading sovereign nations? Knock yourself out. But the whole fear of being #2 or #3 to either of those guys is kind of unwarranted to me. China seems to be absolutely crushing it as a modern society, at least as far as technology and advancements are concerned, so maybe we should be taking some pages from their book, in some senses. I think the people making all the money in capitalism REALLY desperately want us all to believe that thereās no other system that can avoid tyranny, lmao. āWhat if we tried something different that maybe doesnāt leave so many people behind?ā āWhat? The second you do that, a dictator will take over!ā Uhhhhhā¦. what, bro?😂 Not saying it canāt or hasnāt happened, but this whole idea that capitalism is the only way to live relatively freelyā¦. that seems like weāre quitting early on thinking it all through. Not even saying we have to abandon it, Iām just saying that it should be SUPER suspect how quickly we shut down any and all outside-the-box thinking in that arena. āCapitalism = good; anything even one iota away from capitalism = you live in a concentration campāā¦. I mean, cāmon, people🤦āāļø😂
Anyway, to get back on the rails here, I just think itās crazy how America thinks weāre the only place allowed to be patriotic. We tried to fuck with Cuba back in the day ā CUBA ā you know that place that makes itās money selling sugar, cigars, andā¦. oh wait, they donāt do anything elseā¦. because why? Because it made America uncomfortable that they were communist, had communist allies, and were like 100 miles or less off our coast. It didnāt go well, so we donāt talk much about it, but if they went in there and overthrew Castro, America wouldāve celebrated that. Putin wants Ukraine either under his control or OUT of NATOās control, for the same reason, itās a potential security threat on a border. He wants Ukraine neutral or pro-Russia, not a place where enemies of Russia can invade from if they wanted to. And the only reason we donāt give a shit is because we arenāt Russian.
Soā¦Putin has kind of showed his true colors, I donāt endorse that, but I think our anti-Russia attitude in the world is what ultimately stirs this pot. Probably should watch our step with China too. America can shine while those other two countries shine at the same time, I donāt get why thatās a problem. Iād be trying to get along rather than make enemies of them, honestly.00 Reply

Russia has been negotiating for 8 years to keep Ukraine neutral. It couldn't give up its naval base at Sevastopol and it can't afford to allow Ukraine to become part of NATO. The U. S, would never allow a heavily armed, hostile state on its own border, especially one that was in alliance with other hostile powers.
The U. S. played brinksmanship with Putin. It rebuffed attempts at negotiation for 8 years. In the end, it played Ukraine as a pawn in its strategy to destroy Russia.
I don't believe that Putin ever intended to incorporate Ukraine into Russia. Why would he need to if it simply remained a neutral trading partner. I certainly don't believe that Putin has any ambitions on invading any other countries. Russia couldn't even afford that.
Here's just a tiny taste of the background, and it's important to read the two (short) articles that are embedded in the article:

Anonymous(36-45)+1 yMost Democrats believe anything they see or hear in the mainstream media news cycle so, they lack critical thinking skills. They'd rather be wrong together than think for themselves. Every war has powers and principalities financing it and forming it to suit the purposes of The Elite. The Russia/Ukraine conflict is no different. It's interesting that anti-civil liberty villains, George Soros, Charles Schwab, and Ursula Gertrud von der Leyen, are rooting for the Ukraine to remain independent from Russia.

+1 yThis isn't too complicated. There used to be something called the Soviet Union. Ukraine was part of that until 1991. Putin's dream is to put back together the Soviet Union he remembers when he was young. His penis quite literally gets hard thinking about how great putting the Soviet Union back together would be. So over the past couple decades, he's been trying to do just that. Currently he is focusing on getting Ukraine back. :)

All the western countries for most the USA have a deeper interest that the Ukraine leaves the Russian influence. All those western countries are also interested economically in this conflict take Hunter Biden, Joe Bidens son who has a major position in a Ukrainian gas company. European countries have a interest because of Ukrainian electricity or agriculture. Ukraine has a biggest corn fields in Europe if the Ukraine would join the EU it would be more depending on western countries and the western countries could get corn and other agricultural goods cheaper.
It's money and influence which is the real reason why the west has an interest in Ukrainian sovereignty.
The western countries had no problems throwing bombs on Jugoslawia, they have no problems selling high tech weapons to Saudi Arabia that uses those weapons in Yemen.
There is no problem for Germany or other NATO that Turkey attacks Syria and the Kurds with NATO weapons no matter if there are civilians attacked or soldiers.00 Reply- 4K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic.
+1 yYou summed it up quite well, in my opinion.
putin isn't stupid, just an immoral narcissist.
He picked the right time- world in chaos from BS virus, BS president in White House, socialist push already underway for 5 decades- to try the geopolitical war games. The time was simply "ripe". BUT - He underestimated the resolve of the Ukrainian people, and over-estimated the support from everyday Russian population.
"Nice people" seem to underestimate how long the leader of a potential dictatorship will wait to conquer an area with the "never say never" plans that may take generations to implement. When the Reagans and the Trumps- solid pro-America presidents- run the country, those potential conquerers just sit out the administration, refine their plans, and carry on with some covert background activities. When the obamas or bidens- solid socialists (if not communists) screw things up, then the possible conquerers will use these windows of opportunity to their best advantage.00 Reply
Anonymous(30-35)+1 yWhatās changed to prompt it is that Trump was firm with Putin, which kept him at bay. The Ukrainian government has only stopped being pro-Russia in 2014, then also thereās Ukraineās interest in joining NATO. The window with Trump was 2 years after government change and one year since Trump left, quite a narrow window. And even without Trump, that doesnāt necessarily mean the US is weak enough, but a year is enough to get a sense that Biden weak enough to bully around. They also needed to wait until Febubary because thats the months when Russia is in the leading seat in the United Nations. And a month into Bidenās presidency would be difficult to assess how he would react. So it seems that February 2022 was really the only and best choice for an invasion. Furthermore, I think the pandemic set the scene for Russia to sell its bio weapon story. Russia knew about these bio labs in Ukraine, regardless of whether thereās actually weapons or not doesnāt matter. They did the research and have this narrative to push in this given social climate.
It doesnāt all necessarily work out for them though. Aside from Russiaās slow progress, they also seem to fall short when it comes to managing public perception. Sure, theyāve got theyāre narratives theyāre sticking to, but people arenāt really eating it up outside Russia.00 ReplyLet's cut the bullshit and go to brass tax. The decisions of the leader doesn't morally dictate what his citizens deserve nor the world at large should allow to befall an ally.
At the end of the day one side is defending their home, the other is an invading Force seeking to take over. It's very black and white regardless of the justifications of the invading Force.
Additionally, Russian citizens are protesting the war and getting arrested. And Russian soldiers are even regretting the act. Let's relax on trying to give leniency on Putin and his decision.
Seek to understand it for sure to understand him and avoid future problems. But this doesn't change that he needs to be stopped.13 Reply- +1 y
Well that all depends, cause the thing is if something like Ukraine threatening Russia with a nuclear weapon can change the whole story of the scenario, for example then putin decided to kill 2 birds with one stone, he acted on the threat and invaded the country he wanted from the beginning, I'm not saying this is what happened obviously but what if something similar happened, something that was missed out that lead to the action, you know what I'm saying?
- +1 y
If it did the conversation would be about Ukraine dangerous rhetoric. So that's a disingenuous point. Even if we what if that and say it is true, then Russia wouldn't be invading just saying they don't recognize Ukraine as a country. The USA would be talking about what Ukraine is doing. The citizens would still not deserve an invasion of their home. They Also wouldn't have thousands enlisting.
They'd have citizens protesting just like we have in Russia. So the what if scenario doesn't even change the perspective in a way to suggest Russian invasion makes sense as far as justifiable acts are concerned - +1 y
You can make an argument for why you shouldn't give af if you're not Ukrainian. But you can't make a case that Russia is right. Just simply "this doesn't have anything to do with me" as you raise your hands up to walk away.
I'd argue that doesn't work because they had China posture in Taiwan to threaten the world before they did it. And that act alone inherently involves you whether you want to be or not.
But you can still make that case
+1 yEveryone has their own valid reasons. Putin wants to prevent Ukraine from joining NATO because he thinks Russia is surrounded by NATO. Because it was the aim of reclaiming the old Russian lands, and Ukraine there would be a threat to Russia as well, because NATO would establish a base in Ukraine and this Base would be anti-Russian missile and air defense systems, they could hit Russia more closely. any war but he would not be able to invade Ukraine if he joined NATO, so he is trying to bind Ukraine to himself. Putin thinks he is the Tsar and is trying to revive the Empire.

- +1 y
What you see in the picture are only NATO bases in Turkey.
- +1 y
I do not know. There may be other reasons as well. But the main reason is the NATO threat.
- +1 y
Isn't it already too late tho, isn't NATO already more powerful than them tho? š
- +1 y
Yes, but Russia's Nuclear Weapons are much more effective. Russia is a fierce enemy and not a country to be taken lightly. In addition, Russia has an alliance with China and will stand by China in any war.
- +1 y
I think China already refused to get involved in any conflict with the US, I can't blame em tho, we make them the most money
- +1 y
You can destroy Russia, but you will be destroyed in return. Its nuclear weapons are powerful enough to destroy the entire world.
- +1 y
Honestly I feel like maybe he might have exaggerated his nuclear arsenal to bring fear, I feel like he might not have that many bombs as he claims, I believe that they have more bombs than the US maybe but I don't think they have the power to destroy the world, I do know they have 1 bomb that's like 10x more powerful than a nuke but I feel like a bomb that size itself is really expensive so unless he has bombs a lot smaller, I don't see how he will be able to afford such a huge arsenal mostly if he has to not only pay the military but also arm them with weapons and technology, in his defense tho, I don't know how much money he had
- +1 y
Russia's economy is not good. They make their living by selling weapons and selling natural gas. Russian guns are not that good. Turkish Bayraktar Tb2 drones. He destroyed many Russian air defense systems (Pantsirs and s300s) in Syria, Libya and Karabakh. But Russia has S400 and S500 Air defense systems and they are very powerful weapons, they also have nuclear powers. It is a country with its own tanks and planes. Their biggest trump card is their missiles. No country would dare to go to war with Russia alone. The subject the Russians are best at is War.
- +1 y
The European Union is dependent on the Russians for gas. Putin is crazy, he is using his own sanction against sanctions. Oil prices skyrocketed. Oil was around $90 in January, now around $130, 45% increase in 2 months.
- +1 y
Bro gas prices is a whole other war š
- +1 y
The US is having a problem with that as we speak lol
- +1 y
The Russian occupation must end as soon as possible and both sides must abandon their economic sanctions. Because the Russians make them pay for the evil done to them. At the time, Turkey shot down the Russian plane that entered its airspace and killed the pilot. Putin had declared that "we could have started a war" and years later, the Russians had killed 36 Turkish soldiers by bombing in Syria. Oil prices should fall because Turkey is the most affected by this war. Fuel prices are rising every day.
- +1 y
So putin holds a grudge is what you are saying? Lol
- +1 y
I say that the Russians are cruel, they do not forget those who hurt them and somehow make them pay.
- +1 y
Well almost every country has gotten involved so I don't know how he is going to feed his grudge on this one
- +1 y
It is said that they could make a nuclear intervention in Ukraine. Putin gave the order to prepare nuclear weapons.
- +1 y
Damn that dude is such a dick tho š
- +1 y
I don't think they're going to use it just to scare them and win the war.
- +1 y
Ukrainians seem pretty stubborn, I feel like they might have to end up using them, those Ukrainians aren't gonna give it up and I respect them for it
- +1 y
NATO must help Ukraine with ammunition, otherwise Ukraine will not last long. If the Russians continue to be so stubborn, they will eventually invade Ukraine. But if the Russians are forced to retreat, their reputation will be greatly damaged and they will suffer an economic blow. I think Putin is determined to invade Ukraine. I don't think they're going to back out after these events, either they'll win or they'll be heavily defeated.
+1 yYes there is another side to the story Russia/Putin don't want NATO members on their border, which is understandable, as the US didn't want the USSR based in Cuba in the 1960's for the same reasons. I can understand Russia not wanting NATO missile bases on its border, because it is a threat, and the EU and NATO could address this and make long-term agreements.
However Ukrainian people democratically wanting to join the EU should not be used as justification for invasion of Ukraine, its wrong.10 Reply2.1K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. +1 yNot if we're smart, no. The media that filled our heads with lies about Trump and Covid and Iraqi WMDs suddenly deciding to be perfectly honest about a Russian invasion? I don't buy it either. This very much appears to be one man's war for power and prestige, but unless Putin's gone insane, he'll know he can't win this: an occupation of Ukraine would turn into another Afghan war. I'm not saying it's justified- frankly, I don't know how it COULD be- but I don't trust the narrative that this is just one man's madness, with lives and treasure being thrown away by the bucketload because that man happens to be the President of Russsia.

Well Biden like Obama b4 has instigated conflict in Ukraine with Russia by supplying arms to Ukraine, trying to get them to join NATO, building up US military presence on russia's boarder, attempts to undermine russia's, expanding nato's size, engaging in cyber warfare, attacking russia's allies, attacking Russia in the media, using other countries to gang up on Russia, sanctions, putting nuclear weapons in Europe pointed at Russia, egging the Ukrainians on to start shit with Russia thinking the US has their back while the truth is Biden and Obama b4 him would have fought to the last Ukrainian. Trump did the opposite and deescalated the situation which is why Putin only invaded when Obama and Biden were in office.
