+1 yIt's heart-breaking because you don't want either of them to die at all but as cold as horrible as it is if only one can be saved, then save the life of the mother. The unborn child during childbirth is a terrible loss but losing your life partner and best friend and being a sole parent and losing your other half would also be horrible and in my opinion more so. You can make another baby but you can't replace your other half. It's not a situation I would ever want to be in or wish on anyone though. Heart breaking.

I'd still say the same but yes terrible circumstance.

Well this is a tough question. Both the answers are correct but wrong. I guess I will choose the child because that kid deserves to see the world. But then would it be worthy for kid to stay with guilt forever knowing that their mother sacrificed herself for them? If mom is saved then also she will be guily that she couldn't save her child. However if that kid is of 3 years already then I will of course choose the child. It's better to save the new seeds rather than saving a tree as seed never bloomed. It is really difficult to choose between an unborn child and mom. Really one of the toughest question. Logically also both the answers are correct but wrong as well.

In that moment of darkness you might only have a split second to make that choice it all must flash before you , the child would first . the remaining time would be focused on my friend. lover. girl friend. Wife. Who ever she maybe hel life is just as important to me as the child's life and I would do what ever it take to keep her living and I would not stop

Maybe you should look at poland abortion law. The mother can give birth to other babies. :)

It's way more ethical to save the mother if only one can be saved.
If an infant dies, only the two parents really emotionally suffer. The infant hasn't formed relationships and bonds with any others yet. It doesn't have a personality yet. And the suffering, while real, isn't even on the same scale as the pain you'd feel losing the person you fell in love with and devoted your life to.
If a parent dies, life as a single parent, especially a single father, is ROUGH, and both the child and the surviving parent will suffer for decades. Plus, everyone who knew and loved and formed bonds with the mother suffers. Parents, coworkers, extended family, friends, all those people have a part of their soul carved out.11 Reply- +1 y
Very well thought out answer!
3K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. King Solomon decided to cut a child in two halves as two women claimed it's their child. The real mother renounced the right for her half because she wanted the child survives. I think most mothers would go even further and sacrifice their lives for life of their child. I think saving the child is the right decision.

+1 yI'd do what the mother wants, and I can most definitely assure everyone here that any mother would choose her child over herself. I think children are precious and are to be valued above adults. They lack experience, maturity, etc. but they carry hope for a better future.
10 Replydefinitely the mom, she's an actual fully developed human being AND she can have more kids in the future. plus someone needs to take care of the child when it's born, it would help if there was a mother figure.

Well, you know, maybe if there is an emergency and there is a car fire and one is trapped in the front and one trapped in the back and you only have time to get one before the car explodes... which do you go for first.
Some super crazy scenario like that. - +1 y
@Miristheiss that would of course depend on how easy someone is to get to then,

+1 yThat's a really tough one. I would save the mother though. She has people who have loved her for years. The baby hasn't had a chance to have attachment to life.
You're really being left with two shitty options. But selfishly, I would save the mother if she was my wife.00 Reply
+1 yNormally I'd prioritize children but I think in this context where my child isn't even born yet, I'd prioritize my wife. We can have another one. I don't want her to die during childbirth. I don't have a child yet to love.
36 Reply- +1 y
I don't want another one and I already love my wife. She's my #1. I'm not interested in sacrificing my #1 for a life not yet born.
- +1 y
She can hate me and divorce me if that's not what she wanted. But that child isn't born yet. I didn't fall in love with it. I only fell in love with my wife, and so she's #1. I'll kill a billion unborn babies to save her. I'll burn the entire world down.

1.6K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I'd save the mother because I would have been with her for years and be much more attached to her, we could make another kid later, plus if the kid was saved and not the mother I could later resent the kid or seeing it could always remind me of the mother's death and prevent me from having happy times with the kid.

It's a conversation I thought about but never had with my OH. I think with our first I would have chosen the kid. With the second probably have chosen her.00 Reply
+1 yI would save the infant as that would be most likely what the mother would want.
20 ReplySimply because the mother has experienced life and the child is still an innocent soul with an entire life still ahead.
10 Reply751 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. the mother if the child is female and the child if it is a boy. reason: better to save the older person because there are too many people and the child has longer to live and is more likely to breed. The child if it is male because females are more likely to encourage a couple to have children/more children and males produce more economic benefits for society than females because they are more likely to remain in the workforce during their entire adulthood
00 Reply413 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I'd save the mother. Why cause single father hood SUCKs. There is no glory in being a father, being a husband is where its at plus you can always just try again.
20 ReplyThe mother would be sentient and alive. The baby would have barely even lived yet.
50 Reply4.6K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. The mother is a complete person, the infant is some wild beast who has not yet developed into a person.

Do you give any consideration to the kids she may already have? Or are they now unimportant because that have already been born?216 Reply
Opinion Owner+1 yWhy does the infants life matter more?
And does the infant matters more then the children she already has?
Opinion Owner+1 yYou don’t think it’s important for children to have a mother?
Opinion Owner+1 yNice deflection, but it doesn’t answer the question.
Do you think it’s important for children to have their mother?
Opinion Owner+1 yFunny how you don’t bring up anything to support the idea that an infants life is more important that anybody else involved, you just declared that it is. At least I provided a reason why I believe it’s more important to save the mother. You seem to care about children, so I thought I would ask about the ones who are already born. But I understand now that your concern doesn’t seem to extend to those who are already born.
Only the ones who are not born.
Opinion Owner+1 yWhy?
Opinion Owner+1 y@Djaay
Lol. My position is selfish?
Just more evidence that you pro-brith types don’t give a shit about the children already born. Who gives a shit if little kids lose their mother, as long as that whore was forced to incubate the male seed, and give up her life if you deemed it necessary, all is good in your world, right?
“Dont look at the child , look only at the mother” As opposed to you who only cares about that which is unborn. The mother is reduced to nothing more than a baby machine to be discarded when no longer required.
And you call me selfish?
Do you even know the meaning of the world?

I'm not a savior in anyway besides my own self. But hopefully an angel will come to save them.00 Reply1.5K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. That is not a possible either or choice. In any event, if it is your wife, you and your wife can make a new baby but you and the baby cannot make an new wife. Ttherefore, losing the baby is not as important.

I'm sure I would have told the doctor to try and save both but saving my wife is the priority.
- +1 y
ps... so you are giving birth and they come to you and say there is a serious complication... you are dying and they have to terminate the pregnancy to save you... you would say... no, let me die, save the baby?
- +1 y
pss... I'd have to talk to a doctor about this to even explain how a situation like this could really exist in the real world... how they would have to kill the baby or let the baby die or else the mother will die. If they really do exist I'd need the details in order to visualize how this could be. Just do a quick C-section (KEISERSCHNITT!!!) and then take the baby off to the NIC unit and then save the mom if she is in distress.
This seems like a good plot for movies or a drama but it is hard to see how this "save one or the other" situation can really exist if you are in a medical unit and not just stranded in the woods having an unassisted natural birth. - +1 y
My bad "Kaiser" ... not "Keiser"
