Sanctions don't hurt Russia, they hurt Europe and to a lesser extent anyone dependent on global markets for their supply chains. Russia was already positioned to take a more nationalistic stance. That was the plan... Europe is highly dependent on globalism and by sanctioning Russia they have destroyed themselves. If you want to fight a war with someone, you don't cut off your food and energy sources. That's just a blunder... Europe is using the war as an excuse to starve their own populous into submission so that more authoritarian overreach can be put into place. It's an engineered crisis. If they kept their nose out of the issue, all trade would have continues normally, but they wanted to hurt their own population so they took advantage of a crisis.

That said, I don't have smart utilities... I have my own electric generation taken care of off grid. I also have multiple artesian wells. Each one produces approximately 55,000 - 60,000 gallons of water per day without electricity. I have multiple acres in subtropical food forest. That said, you can't take out power plants with cyber attacks, they are on a secure intranets. They don't connect to the internet. You'd have to go after each power plant individually on site to take them down or strike them directly. Logistics however for freight is very easy to interfere with.

Russia is not imploding internally anymore than the US was imploding internally in the 1960's in Vietnam. They are slowly losing the ability to wage a war via an erosion in public support.
There is no need, or desire for Russia to reestablish an "iron curtain," as ideology isn't at play (one needs an iron curtain to prevent the dissemination of certain ideas), but it is clear that Russia is trying to eek out a broader sphere of influence. In the same way that the US in the early 2000's (A la Project For a New American Century) sought to wage, and win multiple conflicts, Russia sought to throw its weight around when they felt the US was too weak, or unwilling to stop them.
However, they didn't learn the lesson the US learned, which is that nationalist sentiment is currently too strong for a country to easily conquer even weaker countries- unless they plan on occupying it militarily forever.
