Should minority languages be protected?

Many countries have languages that are only spoken by a few villages and the government protects them. Do you enforce this or believe they need to go extinct.

Putin bans English words in Russian. The Irish government makes it compulsory to learn irish in school and only a few villages speak it. The baltics, belarus ans ukraine 90% of them speak russian and their native languages are nearly extinct. This is why crimea broke away as they were made speak ukrainian (along with many other reasons)

Crimea did not break away because they were forced to speak Ukrainian.

When I was in Crimea, everyone spoke Russian. Period.

Again, that's a lie. I was there before Russia annexed it. Most Ukrainians speak Russian. Even in Ukraine proper. My friends are all Ukrainian or Georgian. They all speak Russian.

And of course Crimea is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. Right up there with Jamaica and Montenegro.

First, let us get things straight.

Native Crimeans hate Russia. Crimean Tatars are indigenous to the region. They have always been persecuted by Russia.



You are talking about people who happen to live in the region. Some are originally from Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, etc.

Everyone in the region spoke Russian. The signs are in Russian, the television shows, etc. Of course Ukraine cut water to Crimea.

It was annexed by Russia. Why would Ukraine pay to supply services to Russian citizens?

That makes nonsense.

As for Crimean Tatars, this is just one example of how they have suffered under Russian rule.
