And HOW. Little Miss Hate Crime up there saw no problem in putting her political ideals into Star Wars, and I'm actually okay with that; there's always been a degree of political messaging in the franchise. But to take control of the biggest IP in human history and assume that you didn't need to have a plan, and that it was just "movies for children" shows that you REALLY don't understand it- and never did. Also, while you can put political ideals into a movie, that doesn't remove the need for it to be a good movie. Battlestar Galactica (not a movie, but the idea holds) understood that, and not only was it good, it pulled off a task I would have thought impossible: it made Mormonism look cool. COOL. Even *Mormons* don't think Mormonism is cool. Sure, it's the "one true faith" and all that, but it's not COOL.
But no; all we need is lightsabers and explosions and TIE Fighters, and it doesn't matter what the rest is. When I got home from seeing episode VII, I wrote down a list of all the problems I had with it. It was pretty long, but there were some good points, too- lots of interesting places it COULD go, and lots of interesting questions about the world-building that were prompted, but not asked. Episode 8 could really turn this new trilogy into something timeless, I thought. Instead, it was so damn bad I didn't watch the last movie.
If you had asked me in, say, 2010, if I would ever miss a Star Wars movie in the theater, I'd've said something like "Only if I was in a coma, and even that's just a 'maybe'". But I chose not to watch episode 9, because I just had no interest. Dozens of books, over a hundred games, boatloads of dollars on the CCG, and hours beyond counting I spent with the franchise, but now? Now it can wither and fade, as far as I care. I've got my memories; the new stuff's just not worth it.
100% yes. It takes a special kind of narcissism and incompetence to ruin the biggest sci fi franchise in the world in only four years time. They metaphorically salted the Earth with Star Wars. They even f*cked up their last chance for success by firing Gina Carano from The Mandalorian out of pure spite.
Kathleen Kennedy is so incompetent, even Steven Spielberg sh*t on her saying she was only good at interrupting people. Not that Rian Johnson and JJ Abrams don't deserve their own blame. Funny thing is, I'm not even a huge Star Wars fan. But how you f*ck up THIS badly, is beyond me. They literally had decades of lore to go on, plus George Lucas' notes, and they still completely destroyed a sure-fire success.
THIS is what people mean when they say "Get woke, go broke." Literally wasting billions of dollars because you're a narcissitic, no talent asshole like Kathleen Kennedy or Rian Johnson.
Exactly! Decades of lore! DECADES! And they salvaged NONE of it! They even retconed the swtor storyline into PC cuckery. Fml I had to stop. Sometimes I go back as free to play and play just the old content up to shadow of Revan and then I'm just dont again. What they did to Malgus was unforgivable! They'll butcher tf out of malak and Revan. And they don't even got the balls to put Sion or Nihilism!
If only disney used all that money they had to hire better writers, starcwars became a goddamn meme after the new trilogy, i guess there's the mandalorian but eh.. i just can't find the intrests in star wars anymore, i used to like it but now there's just too much of it, the only thing about it I've watched recently are those anime short films and mandalorian and i kind of feel its just a waste of time to be invested in star wars anyomore
Kula Diamond is awesome, by the way! Did you like KOFXV?
haven't played it yet but im planning on getting it so i can play it with a friend later
I don't even blame the writers. They have to follow what the studio tells them to do.
Which audiobooks would you suggest? @t-8900
Disney and Disney + has ruined a lot of stuff. When they start making TV series that link with the movies, people who don't do Disney + become lost customers who have no idea what the hell is going on in the next movie cause they link it back to a TV series to a service so many do not subscribe to.
This goes for more than just the Starwars Franchise.

I didn't really care for the prequels films (episodes 1-3) but I certainly don't think Disney helped there. I've heard some Star Wars fans saying things like now that we've seen the episodes 8-10, 1-3 don't seem so bad in comparison. I still think episodes 1-3 are pretty awful!
That said, at least episodes 1-3 seemed to have something of a plan and preconception behind them. Episodes 8-10 seemed like they tried to improvise the story as they went along as though they didn't even have an outline prepared in advance.
The prequels we're weak but I liked RoTS. Episode 1 did have duel of the fates, a new sith that would go on to be very successful in media, episode 2 had the charismatic dooku played by air Christopher Lee and Natalie Portman looking the finest she ever did in the arena scene, and ROTS actually had many enjoyable moments if you liked papa palps and his trolly laugh. NGL I watch ROTS in a different light. I laugh so much in enjoyment for that one.
@t-8900 The Anakin ark completely misfired and bombed on me although I at least found episodes 2-3 far, far more enjoyable than The Phantom Menace! I've always been more of a Trekkie though (especially TNG). It grieves me much more what Kurtzman did to Star Trek -- especially in Star Trek: Picard -- although maybe I'm in the same boat with Star Wars fans now who are so disappointed with what they did to the likes of Luke Skywalker and Han Solo in the new ones.
@t-8900 Oddly it seems like Star Trek is suffering a similar fate from my end like the writers have no real long-term plan or outline of shows like Star Trek: Discovery or Star Trek: Picard and just winging it as well as completely disrespecting the original characters.
Yeah it's nit the sci Fi tech that I loved about star wars. It's the deep religious fanatacism that really drew me in. Like the orig trilogy was something I liked. But what drew me deep in wasn't the movies at all. It was the games, books, and graphic novels that sealed the deal. When I studied! He sith code, philosophy, religion, I became a huge fan at that point.
@t-8900 I see -- the lore type of stuff! I never got so into it outside the films but I loved KOTOR on the PC when it came out. I'm more character-driven so I tend to be less into lore for films and more just really interesting characters with good acting. It's the characters that fall rather flat on me with lots of these new Star Wars and Star Trek films and shows.
I'm tired of all the comments about the movies
STOP! HARD STOP! If you think star wars was just episodes 1-6 then STOP acting like you know sh*t about the best franchise that ever existed before Disney got it's hands on it. You don't know shit about TOR, KOTOR, SWTOR, Darth Bane, Darth Plageius, The Great Hyperspace Wars, The New Sith Order, The Mandolorian Wars? The 1st and 2nd Jedi Civil Wars? The Infinite Empire? Stop! Dont say a word! Can you even resite the Sith Code? The Jedi Code? Name all of the Ancient Sith Lords in order? Have you ever even heard of Kreia/Darth Trays? Do you understand the full meaning of the Sith Philosophy? Zip it! You don't know wtf you're talking about I'd you think Disney star wars is better.
Lol this is sad gatekeeping
To OP I can tell you the people who don't think they ruined it haven't experienced the EU and are not really into star wars enough to even try, sadly. And yet will claim fandom. Star wars is not for casuals, never was. And that's why their media has been limited to the sh*t in and around Vader/Palp/Yoda legacy. Because simply put they don't know anything else.
You forgot about Mara Jade and Ashoka Tano, who were "strong female characters" without being feminist Mary Sues like Rey. They did Finn especially dirty though, as everyone liked him and would've liked to see him become the hero in episode 9, just for them to cuck him to a forced Rey/Kylo romance.
Well, that’s not relevant. You’re declaring everyone’s view who doesn’t know these details as irrelevant, which absolutely is just sad gatekeeping.
Fun fact: people can enjoy things even if they disagree with you. Also, people’s views are perfectly legitimate with respect to them enjoying Star Wars if they have consumed less Star Wars contenr than you
@tartaarsaus to declare that the sequels are better or Disney is better than Lucas films witho ever consuming the old content is not an opinion. How can you have such an opinion of you don't even know about the content? Only people who could make such claims are radicals that love being pandered to. You can enjoy "star wars" but you can't make a declaration about it being better than it was previously. It simply isn't, not in any way, shape, or form. You can't even begin to. Why? Thousands of characters you know nothing about, tens of thousands of years of lore you've never read on, never giving a chance to the vast novels, audiobooks, games across various platforms, that vastly expand this universe. Disney erased that. It's lesser, factually speaking. And it only revolves around the rule of two and post rule of two era. Like the tail end of rule of two exclusively at that
It's sad and pathetic and shows just how limited the people at Disney's knowledge is on it all.
When one says that Star Wars isn’t ruined doesn’t require that they consider new content to be better then.
It only requires that they consider new content to be sufficiently good for Star Wars to not be ruined. That can also mean it is worse than old content.
So indeed, sad gatekeeping from your end
I’ve stopped investing in the franchises I love and accepted that the only thing these large corporations care about is exploiting original content, customer nostalgia and ham-fisting social agendas into them because even bad publicity is still publicity.
Let’s face it, these companies don’t even know how to write strong female characters without making them Mary Sues or overtly masculine. And in case you think they actually care about real problems, look no further to how far they bend over backwards to please the CCP’s explicitly racist conditions for release in China and conveniently ignore their human rights abuses.
They don’t care about following established lore or respecting the canon and their original content often has plots holes the size of a Star Destroyer in them. Half the YouTube amateur films are better than Hollywood right now.
These days depending on who the show runner is it could be good or absolute dog shit. I like how Jonathan Favreau has been doing star wars. Kathleen Kennedy and her "woke" feminist views has destroyed star wars. Same with Marvel. Captain America and winter soldier had too much blm bs in it. Moon knight has been prefect so far. It all depends on the show runner
People who say the disney sequels are good should get brain surgery. These movies, especially the last one were trainwrecks. The list of problems in the sequels is huge:
-badly written, plotholes
-overpowered unsympathetic Rey
-too much woke agenda inserted
-terrible storylines
...
Only good disney star wars stuff was Rogue One and Mandalorian.
Even though they now try to patch up their plot holes by new series, it won't make their seques good
Episodes 8 is my top favourite episode just in front of Episode 3 and 2
@dogsteeves you joking? Part 8 is extremely weak, its full of nonsense
It was an amazing film only one that surpassed episode 3 which was my first episode
They basically shit all over fans of the EU, so yeah; pretty much.
I used to be a huge SW fan, and I haven't even seen the new trilogy. I literally couldn't care less about them, or SW itself, anymore.
I don't know if this will help or hurt the franchise. I'm the only person on the planet that hasn't seen any Star Wars movies. But I am helping with the screenplay for the new Rocky movie coming out this fall.
Lets face it, after the first three movies, the rest were just ripoffs. Disney is just interested in making money and not quality entertainment. They are messing up the Marvel franchise too.
No, I mean they seriously messed up the Sequel trilogy, particularly with the 'The Last Jedi'. But Rogue One, Rebels, The Mandalorian and even the Book of Boba Fett make things better.
'Kenobi' is due out shortly and 'Jedi knight' is due in 2024, which is set to merge these all together while follow Luke Skywalkers adventures. My opinion 3 years ago was yes Disney messed it up, but now its starting to really improve.
Nope star wars was never good.
It always felt like a movie for 5 yr olds to me.
I remember i was like 12 and watching the one with the little bears in them and going oml, this is more for my 5 yr old brother.
How do grown people get into something so bad.
That's because it "was" a movie for young kids. Why the women walked around in robes. At least until return of the Jedi came out with Lea in her slave outfit. Star Trek was the adult space movie, Notice all the women walk around in tight outfits. Star Trek movies are very dark too.
The only reason the original Star Wars movie was so popular was because nobody had seen special effects like that back then. Science fiction wasn't very popular genre, it was kind of a joke about itself. You could actually see the strings attached to spaceships. Contrast that to the opening scene of Star Wars, People were blown away by the special effects. That's Why people lined up at the theaters to see it again and again.
Nowadays every movie has those effects. The focus should be on the story and acting. Except, that keeps getting worse and worse. Now it's become so bad, it's annoying.
Yes, but hopefully not irrevocably. They should check out some of The Critical Drinker's assessments and maybe they can make a better trilogy next time around.
No, they didn't, and why are you bringing that photo back up? I thought I would never see it again; it a dumb ad for what was Nike's new female airforce shoes
The force mentioned is in the word airforce, not star wars
Kathleen Kennedy is just a sponsor because she wants to be
Again it has nothing to do with star wars
They certainly did ruin it by ditching a far superior established lore, trashing vastly better characters that were more interesting, more developed and flushed out, with more interesting plots. Plus they can't even think outside of the box. We're still in a post TOR era and without a Darth Kraayt or Jacen Solo, both of which are better stories and characters then this sh*t show and I don't even find post TOR even remotely as interesting on terms of character and lore. No Exar Kun, no Darth Revan, no Darth Malgus, No Naga Sadow or Marka Ragnos, no Kyle Katarn, nothing but heaps of sh*t
The new lore is far superior I never cared about legends actually I hated a lot of it
I hated how successful luke was an how powerful he got
I hated Luuke and Luuuke
I hated one Sith
I really hated the yuzong vong
But so far I've loved every minute of new canon expect for a few books the alphabet squadrons and legend of luke skywalker
Revan is canon she has a legion in the final order named after her, (The 3rd: Revan Legion).
So was
The 5th: Andeddu Legion
The 17th: Tanis Legion
The 26th: Tenebrous Legion
The 39th: Phobos Legion
The 44th: Desolous Legion
Darth Revan is a guy, has been established as a guy for a long, long time. So you hate how powerful Luke got but you were okay with how Rey just got A tier powers just cuz? Okay then. What you hate in your list is just post rule of two era and by the way I'd say Kraayt is better than bringing palpatine back like they did. The EU did a better job of it. Luke and Mara Jade was better than Luke regressing into a pansy. by the way I hate like, always have. I hated his cry baby attitude. So I don't mind him dying. But the whole thing is just bad. I liked the EU because the Skywalkers were all whiny little bitches. But I loved Darth Vader. That said to even say Kylo was pale shadow is giving him too much credit. What good are the names of characters of they aren't shown to the audience? To claim "legend" status? To focus on the sequel circus show and not what predated the Skywalker line? The real potential of star wars was always in it's EU, particularly TOR
In my headcanon, she is a girl I always played female in kotor, and she never rejoined the Jedi or became grey; she whole dark side sith. respected by the Sith Eternal to name a legion after her
Why would they name a legion after a lost sith turned Jedi
Also, why would you say lines like once down the dark side forever will you be lost if Revan already returned to the light (That is because it never happened in my headcanon)
And now that she is just a name of an ancient sith lord
There is no physical character with it, and anyone can make any headcanon now, so you physically can not say that she was male in canon
In legends, yes, but in canon, we don't know, and anything can be done to Revan to change her character
Rey had the dyad and was only strong when Kylo Ren was near other times she wasn't she fails the mind trick so many times
I won't contend head canon because that's saved turf. For me Disney star wars just doesn't exist. I get cravings for star wars media I got lots at least. I love my comics, audiobooks, graphic novels, games, and if I need to watch a movie I still have the ones from orig Lucasfilms. I'll take Kyle Katarn plot over Rey plot any goddamn day of the week
I am playing Jedi Knight series on twitch and it's meh so far I'm only playing because I am playing one of each saw game in my steam library
I read thrawn trilogy it took me 3 years to finish and it was meh
Rebel was the best tv show yet
We wouldn't get half the content we do nowadays if Disney didn't own Star Wars, the newer movies are controversial but still rather high quality and they have expanded the lore a ton plus they helped push the franchise into the mainstream rather than it being a nerdy niche.
We had tons of video games, comics, and novels that had rich lore that better explains things. There were better characters, better FEMALE characters even. Meetra Surik, Kreia, Mara Jade, Darth Zana, all stronger female characters then Rey for God sake! I don't believe going mainstream makes something better either and star wars was pretty damn mainstream before they bought it out, hence why they paid billions. You could say comics are for nerds, but they're trendy now, video games are for nerds, except the haven't been since the 90's, and novels have always been for everyone. George Lucas gave us episodes 1-6 but the fans gave so much more back into the lore. You should take a look sometime.
they should let the clone wars cartoon series director Dave Filoni write and direct everything star wars from now on!
Gravity bombs in zero gravity is just too much for me not to mention how hyperspace weapons being a thing now should make the death star and any capital ships obsolete.
Any space battles should happen now mostly beyond visible range by hyperspace missiles and the best Jedi pilot should be now on equal footing with a rookie Imperial pilot.
Whomever pulls the trigger first wins.
Gorge Lucas star wars wasn't always perfect but it was still Star wars. George made the movies feel like you were watching something from the Star wars universe. Disney didn't do this for me. It felt like a company making movies while with George, it was a man sharing his vision and imagination. So yes Disney ruined star wars not to mention, they killed Lucas-arts which made some great star wars video games. EA & Disney butchered Star wars
Disney ruins everything. I never was into the Disney culture and now its ruined star wars, and marvel.
Yes, but George Lucas did too. He ruined the original trilogy story line by messing up the storyline in episodes 1, 2, and 3. He had to go back and edit some scenes from return of the Jedi.
I don't know much about the Star Wars "franchise", but wasn't it ruined when Lucas made 'Return of the Jedi'? I've seen that film, and it's just absolutely awful.
The Disney company ruined the whole company, as far as I'm concerned.
Disney ruins everything that initially had quality.
Corporates like Disney make money off of a franchise. Yes I think they've ruined the Star wars franchise.
I wish they had hired better writers. I enjoyed Rogue One, but the other movies could have been much better.
No. In fact after seeing episode 1 through 3 I think they saved it. Could it have been better? Of course! But as star wars fans I think it's really hard to follow the 4th then, 5th and sixth. I mean even then they steadily got worse. Lucas started a great story. He was just to tired to finish it. It wasn't perfect. But it was better than it would have been if Lucas continued. At least that's the way I see it.
Plus you gotta love all the extra origin stories.
Not quite yet, but I'm sure they can manage to do so.
I don't think so, I do really enjoy the new ones but I also can separate them from the original movies
Nah, it got more life and money than it would under Lucas. If anything they just do whatever they can to print money, I wouldn't say it's ruined just it's a multiverse of things now.
the mandalorian and book of bobba fett are pretty good, those movies with rae and kylo ren are just god awful and “woke”
With how much additional money they take in, I don’t think so, hardcore, OG and new fans alike still love it. Especially going to Batuu! It’s very cool walking through there and experiencing the world first hand.
I am a OG fan and I thought star wars couldn't be in a better place
Yep! I feel like they’ve done well with the franchise and George Lucas is very hands on, so knowing things get the creator’s stamp of approval and involvement makes it so much better.
You people must have only dabbled in movies or something. The EU had vastly better characters, stories, and a deep and rich establishes lore which they butchered. Disney star wars sucks. you need only read the Kotor comics, bane trilogy, and okay the Kotor and swtor games to see that.
Hey that’s your opinion☺️
I’m just not interested in going back and forth. You have your opinion and I respect it, I just don’t feel like the franchise is ruined, and have enjoyed what’s been done with it.
My thing is just this. How can you or anyone form an opinion between the two of you haven't experienced it yet. Please, you're missing out on a lot of good content. Go back and look into it. If you are a star wars fan you will thank me for it as it's years of content you missed out on.
@t-8900 well let me see Favourite Disney character is Kylo Ren
Favourite tor character is Kreia she was amazing I love her take on the force but
I really prefer kylo arc
@dogsteeves in your opinion what made Kylo more interesting than Kreia? I found Kreia to be a very complex character and Kylo pretty straightforward, just my honest opinion. I didn't like any of the new characters in the sequels and I was long tired of the old ones too. Pre Retcon Malgus is my favorite. He was a visionary, revolutionary, absolute tank, fearless, enlightened, he was such a bad ass for so many reasons
Disney is ruining everything.
Boycott disney.
No. Woke-culture ruined Disney. And their finances show it.
It was already ruined... I'm a Trekkie!
I feel that Star Trek has more of a hardcore Sci-fi atmosphere and storyline. And that's more my thing.
I just plain hate starwars now it's not the same and I'm over it
Disney created Obi Wan Kenobi series, Ahsoka series, Star Wars rebels, good video games, the Mandalorian.
Far from it being ruined
They literally threw out the entire EU, which yes ruined it. They butchered the established, rich lore because most of the new shit wasn't made by passionate fans of the franchise. They decided to go full PC for the sequels and rebels was mediocre at the best of times. They haven't been able to get away from the movies in some capacity, which shows their complete lack of imagination. Tens of thousands of in universe years and they STILL can't get away from the rule of two/post rule of two era. Not just that but Kylo replaced a far superior, better in everyway Jacen Solo
Counterpoint: they have made great series and generally good content.
Conclusion: it is not ruined
It being worse than original doesn’t mean it is ruined lmfao.
Yes, it become SJW Wars now.
I don’t think Star Wars was ever ruined it just seems kinda old to me irrespective of Disney. Disney is at least trying to accommodate the times.
@t-8900 Who? Disney? Both Disney and Star Wars are fine in my book how were they "ruined"? @Physics-Man asking a stupid question for once I see.
Yes Disney 💯 pissed off the Asian market, go read up about if. They removed decades of established expanded lore, books, games, comics, graphic novels, etc
You should look into the vast number of characters, plots, events, and milestones they removed from the canon. It's absolutely ridiculous and stomach turning. Lucas regrets giving them the license and it also saddened mark Hamill greatly. Dude nearly had a break down on stage during an interview. Too much sjw pandering and no pay off for veterans of the franchise
Yup. and now they're ruining Marvel as well.
Yes, wokeness ruins everything
liberals ruin anything they touch
Nope. it's just 6 movies were the right amount.
ABSOLUTELY!!!
don't know anything about star wars
Absolutely lol
