Because it is 2022 and the last time a forced draft took place was 1973.
There are still laws in place saying it is okay for a man to beat a woman in his driveway on Sunday. (We don't protest this either)
Still communities in place that says a neighborhood is whites only, but the community has 0 white people in the neighborhood. (We don't protest this either)
We don't have a need to protest something that isn't being enforced.
Now if a draft takes place and nobody protests then this would be a valid question.02 Reply
Asker+1 yIt was on the verge of getting changed and then it was let go. If there is little attempt to change this now, then it’s highly likely it’s gonna change later on.

+1 yI mean there were protests to stop the draft in 1967. The system changed to a voluntary one in 1974 and the draft was abolished. But they brought it back in 1980. Where people protested it again.
It was protested because there was a chance it could be used. Currently it's unlikely the draft will be used. So it's not a current issue.10 Reply
Anonymous(36-45)+1 ySimple. Women only care about equality when it benefits them. Why do we see people screaming about how society needs more women CEOs and engineers, but oddly we never hear about how more women are needed in mining, waste disposal, or working on an oil rig. It’s almost like they aren’t interested in those jobs. I mean we should want parity across the genders, right?

Asker+1 yThey will say something like mining is a masculine job and bla bla bla. But there’s plenty of men working in feminine jobs.

+1 ywanna say there was a bill summited to congress awhile back that would have required. all people ages 18-30 regardless of gender to be added to the draft list. however it was never approved by congress over fears of backlash from the public.

1.1K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. A smart person pick their fights and this isn't something high on priority since no country is drafting. I think the next time a western country tries to draft they will have problems.

Asker+1 yIt’s not fair. This is what’s wrong with western countries. How is it that most women talk of equality when it comes to things like wage gaps. But when it comes to selective service they keep quiet. They are selective about it (no pun intended)

Really most people alive today hasn't experienced a drafting, so why would anyone of us complain about it. Military service sure, but drafting no. I personally think it's a necessary evil to do that service, I think everyone should do it, no one wants to attack a country where everyone is trained to defend it.
Asker+1 yWell that’s reality. The world leaders don’t give any shits about innocent people. Just look at Russian soldiers today. I’m just saying it’s best to prepare now because drafting will most likely always exist. And I’d rather go down with the opposite gender rather than going down alone. And that too knowing full well I was used by our leader just because I was born as a man.

Well you know that the world has plenty of wars, but no one speaks about most of them. You have to look at your home country when deciding your issues. Sweden cannot do what Russia do. So I can only be drafted in a defensive war and today I don't have a war position and haven't had one for 15 years. Besides if I would be drafted I would end up in a military headquarters bunker so I would be safer there than at home.
+1 y"Allowing"? That's an interesting way to put it. I wonder what Marc Angelucci would say- perhaps you should ask him.
Oh, wait.01 Reply
Asker+1 yYes allowing might not be the best word for it but you get the point

Opinion Owner+1 yYou do realize you can join the military without being conscripted like the selective service is meant to do.
Abortion right now, and some states are considering banning contraception access.
Opinion Owner+1 yThey can of they want to be, all power to them, but they are the minority by far.
No baby is killed, thats literally not how it works. You're just removing what looks like a melted sour patch gummy.
My issue with the draft is it forces people to die for a cause not their own. Have a family at home? A career? Doesn't matter, you get picked and you get shipped off to die. So if you want even more people to die, you have no basis to your issue regarding abortion being taken lightly, because you're doing exactly the same to other innocent humans.- +1 y
Doesn't matter if its a minority. If men have to go, so do women. Remember, its equal.
Ok.
But maybe instead of abortions, why not practice safe sex? Or celibacy. Problem solved, no abortion needed.
They have a family and maybe a career.
Guess what. Neither will be there if you dont defend your home.
Its not that i want more people to die. Im just not naive and stupid enough to believe that we won't have war at some point
Opinion Owner+1 yOr we could just abolish it entirely, which renders us equal still.
Safe sex fails, rape and abuse happens etc. Plus we have every right to have sex. If you think abortion is not nuanced, then you're ignorant.
We have been at war for over 20 years, all voluntary. Just about every war we ever had has been voluntary. Future wars won't be any different.
Also its a bit disingenuous to say you don't want more people to die, when you want to have more people forced to fight to the death.- +1 y
Those wars were invasions, not defensive.
Big difference.
The reason why im insisting on women being drafted, is because women want to be equal to men, not the other way around.
Safe sex fails. So why are you risking it?
Dont have sex. Simple as that. Celibacy makes abortions unnecessary.
Pregnancies that come from abuse can be addressed in an amendment to the original bill... and then some women will get pregnant and accuse a man of rape so she can have an abortion.
Hows that for nuance.
You dont seem to take this seriously.
The way women have been talking about it in a dismissive attitude. Feminists running around gloating about having abortion.
How about instead of legalizing frivolous abortions and make "until marriage" the social norm again?
+1 yWhile they claim there's no laws that govern a man's body.

Asker+1 ySo what… that doesn’t deny the fact that the selective service is only gonna go after men. If it’s not changing or attempting to be changed now, then it’s most likely never going to be changed

Asker+1 y@UCrayCray I mean I’m ok with things like the wage gap closing and having equality between genders. But equality between genders means that women SHOULD be drafted.

You assume that women are just going to stand back and say nothing?
You do realize that it’s our fathers, husbands and sons who would be forced to go to war?
I’m sorry that the women you know make you believe that women as a whole don’t care about the men in their lives. Plenty of us would protest against forcing our men to go to war.
Asker+1 y@UCrayCray women will SAY something. Not because they want to. Only because their family member is involved. Assuming a women has no male in her family, then she will most likely not give two shits as it doesn’t involve her.
+1 yWomen can join the services if they want.
