Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has loudly and proudly extolled his ongoing migrant bussing initiative, which transports migrants from the Texas border to processing centers to Washington, D. C. to suggest he's pushing the responsibility and cost onto the federal government's plate, Arizona state leadership has followed in his footsteps with less fanfare.
On Wednesday a bus carrying 20 migrants arrived in D. C. from Yuma, Arizona, according to The Dallas Morning News' Todd J. Gillman. The vehicle arrived with little heads up for media, and the program was only mentioned toward the bottom of a Wednesday release from the governor's office that focused primarily on suppressing drug cartel social media campaigns.
"With Arizona community resources under all-time demand, and little action or assistance from the federal government, individuals who entered Arizona seeking asylum have the opportunity to voluntarily be transported to Washington, D. C.," the release stated. "The transportation will include meals, and onboard staffing and support."
The initiative Abbott claimed would "help local official whose communities are being overwhelmed" has failed to stem the flow of migrants across the border, and instead has received praise from federal officials and migrants for providing needed transportation for those who otherwise didn't have a ride to sponsors.
