I mean…. the thing with people who are racist is that we’re primarily dealing with an intangible attitude, so they live in this comfortable zone of plausible deniability. Unless you catch someone doing something blatant and egregious, they’re always going to say “that’s not what I meant”, or the more obnoxious ones will be like “you can’t prove it”, like they’re thumbing their noses at you. “Dog-whistling” is definitely a very real thing, as well as obvious, despite what those people who engage in it may think.
My problem with what Ingraham said is that it’s dismissive of LeBron as a man, like his opinion doesn’t count because the way he makes his money comes from being good at a sport. I’m a Celtics fan, you won’t find a lot of LeBron James live up around my way,
we can’t stand him as a basketball player. I guess Kyrie Irving showed us what a REAL douchebag looks like and the LeBron hate has cooled a little since then, but if we woke up to a LeBron trade to the Celtics, as good as he is, a lot of us would find it a bitter pill to swallow initially. So I’m not dealing from the position of a LeBron-lover, just to be clear.
But I’ll tell you what…. all I hear from white people when black athletes speak up about social issues or politics, if it’s not “shut up and dribble”, is “iF It’S sO iMpOrTaNt To YoU tHeN wHy DoN’t YoU dO sOmEtHiNg?” And LeBron does that. LeBron donates millions and millions and millions of dollars to scholarship funds, The Boys & Girls Club, after school programs, etc. The dude is a philanthropist whether you like it or not.

Laura Ingraham works for FoxNews. They are NOT on the up-and-up, CERTAINLY NOT the evening hosts like Ingraham, Sean Hannity, and Tucker Carlson. Their programming seems deliberately tailored to and designed for conservative, mostly white, Republicans. We can all the conversations you want about CNN or MSNBC, I’m just saying that FoxNews, in a vacuum, is not on the level, they’re fucking liars and shit-stirrers. Their ultimate goal is to make you believe liberalism and Democrats are going to destroy America, and that only conservatism and Republicans can keep us afloat. What you or I or anyone else reading this thinks of that idea, that’s another topic for another time, I’m just saying that FoxNews has chosen their lane, and they operate within it. If it makes Democrats look good, you won’t hear about it there. If it makes Republicans look bad, you won’t hear it. And if you DO hear it, best believe it’s been through the spin cycle. Tucker Carlson is INCREDIBLE for taking seemingly negative events and totally tiptoeing around what’s unfavorable for his audience, and instead spinning and highlighting it in a way that absolves Republicans and indicts Democrats. Watch Tucker Carlson after the next mass shooting. I PROMISE he’ll do it. I PROMISE that no matter how many times it happens, no matter how Republicans handle it, the spin we’ll be “it’s not the guns, it must be something else, don’t ever let them tell you it’s the guns, even though we all know it’s totally the guns…”, because that’s what his audience wants to hear. If he stops saying that, if he even breathes a syllable of “well, maybe it IS time for a few restrictions…”, he’s fucking FINSHED. Career over, unless he wants to switch teams and become the reformed-former-conservative talking head on one of the left-leaning networks.

No racial undertone. But everyone should seek wisdom and commentary. Better advice for her give would be: "When you brush up on [insert list of things LeBron is ignorant of here], come back and talk. Until then, you embarrass yourself and your profession."
That puts the burden on LeBron to educate himself before influencing his fans. Acting like he doesn't get a say solely because he shoots hoops is the same snotty, ignorant elitism that baby murder advocates use to try to intimidate men into silence and inaction in the face of one of the most diabolical rackets ever to exist.
I don't doubt that LeBron is a clueless jackass; but her reasoning is wrong. And that her reasoning has consequences going unquestioned by so many, just because they're happy she stuck it to Blowhard James, should be far more concerning than any detergent eater's quest to make everything about "racism."
Doesn't sound racist she's just being straight up harsh and mocking his level of intelligence or education. He has a right to speak politics. Everyone does no matter what grade level you reached in school. Now if you are willing to go on television and talk politics then expect to be criticized no matter what political party you are from. Anyhow its just her harsh way of saying stick to what you do best and dont quit your day job. He's a better ball player than a political speaker.
I don't think it was funny. But I don't think it was racist either. It was just words of a hypocrite. She would have probably been praising him if he said something she agreed with. I don't know much about this woman. But I bet she was one of the ones who is obsessed with Trump. The kind of person who says celebrities should stay out of politics while praising a celebrity who got into politics.

Not seeing a racial connotation to that comment at all.
The amazing thing about this story is it's dated 2018 according to that link, but Laura's comment would still apply to almost everything LeBron has chimed in on ever since too. I think LeBron means well (or at least thinks he does), but doesn't realize how detached he is from the rest of the world, and he frequently jumps to extreme conclusions without doing his own research or waiting for the facts, and he's far from being alone in this regard. The most egregious example I can think of off the top of my head was when he posted threats against the cop who shot a black girl trying to stab another black girl and accused him of racism.LeBron James is a JACKASS!!!
He is a slave to Nike.
He used to rag on Trump but LeBron never had the balls to call out all the crap that goes on in China.
He LeBron would grow a set or testicles and call out true corruption from places where he and the NBA earn millions of dollars, maybe I would think more highly of him.
A few years back when NFL players were "taking a knee", a fan in the stands held up a sign the read: "Protest on your own time, not on my dime".
So yeah "Shut up and dribble!!!"It was no big deal to any of my black friends from Brit to corn rolls to Rasta. Such a pussy country. What would people do in 70% where either Government, Muslims, or Hindus are going to get you…. What a spoiled, safety, and never any adversity “besides baby formula.”
You really need a war like previous generations endured…where some BS comment…no one cares.
—I agree with the Muslims and the majority of the world. Great Satan is exactly how the people in this country think and act violating Design and Nature.i refuse the idea of "racial undertone" as you can see that everywhere if you want to... and lots of left wingers have an incentive to want to
if it's not overt, it's never a thing. and even if it were i think adults can handle undertones with their thick skinNope. She has said similar things about actors/actresses, soccer players (Rapinoe), etc. Only a democrat assumes everything has to do with race even when race wasn't mentioned in the event.
No racial undertones. Not funny either, to be honest.
But quite true, he should shut up and dribble.
Here's a funny joke about james:
"How much does a chinese whore costs? Depends on the whore, LeBron costs a lot of money, Cena is a bit more affordable..."I think she was making a point that he is a moron and is best playing the game instead of appearing to be intelligent.
Yeah, sure, all disagreements are racist. LeBron is as sways right about everything and cannot be questioned in any way.
Definitely some racist undertones.. but she also gets paid a lot of money to fool people into believing here garbage. Which is why I’d probably trust a basketball player over a TV bullshitter any day.
I wouldn't say a racial undertone but definitely uncalled for.
considering it had nothing at all to do with race... lmfao @ anyone who thinks it does. And she's right. He's an effing mouthpiece for China and also a race baiter and a fake hate crime creator. On the basketball court, he flops around more than the titties of an 80 year old woman who doesn't wear a bra.
I thought it was appropriate. Who cares what LeBron has to say.
Michael Jordan was once asked why he didn't make political statements; his cesponse was "Republicans buy shoes, too".
Funny that she's good at dribbling too.
But no from lack of any other context, that doesn't appear racist.Makes some sense, he's a basketball player and not a politician
Nothing she said had any racial aspect. If anything, your question has racial undertones by implying a reference to basketball somehow implies a person's race.
Isn't everything and everyone racist? Racist, racist, racist!!!
Why would it be racial? The man just hasn’t stayed out of politics for the past several years
The only racial undertone is coming from you.
Hilarious had me in tears
