In hindsight, what happened on Jan 6 2021 wasn't a smart thing to do. But Trump fully believed that he won the election, especially after taking Florida, which had voted for the winning candidate in the previous 6 elections. And, his advisor (s) told Trump that what they were trying to do on Jan 6 (i. e.-change the electoral vote) was justified by the Constitution, previous laws and precedents. It turns out that advice was totally wrong.

Hopefully, what comes out of the Jan 6 investigations is not a witch hunt and punishment, but an understanding of how to make the overall election system better.
