I would point to countless research showing media not affecting violence. But there seems to be a culture of “pro-gang” language in rap songs. Not to mention chauvinist crap.
But all media could be seen as such, too. And poverty is 10x more corrosive, so I hate spotlighting rap music. But I’m not sure.
Yeah it can but it depends on who listens to the music and what there intention is when listening.

No. I have been listening to heavy metal, reading comics and play video games since I was a kid. If the idea that such things influence peoples behavior is true, I should have shot up several schools by now. People want some explanation and reason for a given persons behavior and they want it bad enough they will latch on to any explanation they can get. Everything from movies, music to comics have constantly been offered up as a explanation for generations. So people are quick to latch onto the ideas that they are.
The simple truth is that some people are simply broken or screwed up by nature. Just look at human history and long before such things where even invented and it's clear to see. Someone like Jack the Ripper wasn't running around listening to 50 Cent and Amelia Dyer was not playing Mario games or reading comics.
No there is rap, and there is gangsta rap.
Gangsta rap 100% promotes and idolizes criminal rap. It makes these rappers some pretending, some actual criminals heroes.
a lot of kids grow up seeing this extravagant lifestyle and rarely see any negative results from living like this because 90% of these "gangsta rappers" either never lived the life, or been out the life long before rapping.
They think all that fame women, cars and house came from living that life, instead of from being a music artist
A genre of music is not to blame for people's ignorance and poor choices. If a song is talking about using drugs, then you go off and use drugs, it isn't the songwriter's fault. It's YOUR fault for making a poor choice. Hold yourself accountable for your own actions.

What about metal and grunge rock that majority are all satan worshippers or occultists like Marilyn Manson and Led Zepplin? Don't talk shit about rap music.. the white kids just think they're hardcore for listening to some vulgar words and the hard beats. If someone actually listened to the old stuff like Biggie, Pac, E-40, and yea, 50 Cent and Eminem.. they told stories. Today's generation of rap is garbage. All they talk about is eating pussy, wearing Gucci, driving a Lamborghini, and living in Beverly Hills. That shit inspires competition most likely.. but don't blame it on the music.
Gangsta rap music has been my favorite genre since it first emerged in the late 80s. Somehow, I managed to never be in a gang, I’ve never owned a gun, and I treat women very respectfully.
If the people who entertain you are the ones you take your cues from about living life, that’s a YOU-problem. I think that’s more of the issue, the reasons we choose to admire and imitate people. You want to draw some inspiration from somebody’s clothing or hairstyle, that’s whatever. But if you look to any celebrity —musicians, actors, models, athletes, “influencers”, etc— for direction about your personal character, well, you probably aren’t very smart to start with, lmfao. The influence of music, movies and video games is exaggerated, but i do believe there is an influence. Rap music definitely glorifies violence, but Ice Cube made the point that the behaviors they refer to in their music was going on long before gangster rap was developed. So it’s more that violence inspired gangster rap than the other way around. Still, i do believe the combination of poverty and songs about great wealth accumulated from dealing drugs and pimping hookers is likely inspiring some kids into gangs rather than minimum wage jobs or colleges.
The answer is yes BUT this is not to say that all that listen to rap will be influenced.
The music will have a different effect on different people, the young who are “active” within the gang culture who are in the main involved with crime, have no job and smoke weed all day will be mostly affected because of their lifestyle and mindset.
I listen to rap from time to time and have tend to admire the lyrical content or flow etc. I’m 38 and a company director, I won’t be affected the same way as a teen with no job that smoke weed involved in crime and likely to be carrying some form of weapon.

No.. because if you think about all the movies out there about gangsters, that inspires very, very, very few people to go that route. Gangsters were growing up and being gagsters eons before rap music OR gangster movies existed.
To me it's like asking if fast food makes people fat... that food is not good but it's not like the food magically makes someone fat. People choose to eat too much. When they see their weight going up they don't pull back. Some people have self-control. Some do not. BUT If you're a lawyer looking for money, of course you would rather sue a big corporation and blame them than tell the client, "stop eating" or "stop glorifying gangster lifestyles"
And you know there's many country songs that are about shooting somebody. Nobody ever asks if it's creating killers.
My opinion on rap music is "Wake up people, it's called art.. And art holds a mirror to reality." There's nothing wrong with a young man telling you his experiences and what he's all about. If people find it offensive, they should be more offended not by the music but by their own lack of involvement in challenging their own stereotypes and in helping to create a society that promotes other values besides money, fame, sex, etc. That being said, I really love the bass guitar and drums and the especial use of them in this genre.
Weak minds will be inspired by anything, rap music, a new crime show or documentary, a stupid online cult about incels. It's not about the music, the media or anything else, just weak minds being influences, and what it is those weak minds find first.
Not only rap music but singing music as well. Music, whether it's rap or singing, can inspire a lot of things. Like, a song about suicide could actually encourage a mentally ill person to commit the act. A sad song as well. All types of music can make different people feel different things, and make different people do different things, while some or most people doesn't act on it because the songs aren't that deep enough for them.

Yes. Whenever there's some Rap Awards ceremony, there's always trash talk and violence. When you look at a Rapper's picture on an album, it always looks like they're filled with hate and ready to kill somebody. Some people just take it from there.

Yes, music and it's vibrations have an effect on the pituitary glands. Different tones and different vi rations affect the body. The only thing that bothers me with this subject is someone might do something with a group that they would NEVER do alone. If the song in question has any "pro-gang" stuff in it, people don't typically get inspired by it unless they are already under some inspiration.

I would say that all music has an impact on the brain. But just because someone is told something doesn’t mean they will go out an do it. From my experience, it will definitely not go unnoticed what is being said in the lyrics so it’s not like the the answer is zero impact on perpetuating violence but I would not say it’s a defining part of why someone would become violent.
