How can you tell if something you are thinking of doing is right or wrong?

when something is right, I don't usually question it at all... because it is right

when it is wrong, I just know it is wrong so I am just not going to do it

and for all the things in the middle, that's when it gets more complicated... and then I have to think and consider a lot of variables and factors, as well as consequences... I rarely act without giving it a thought or two first

experience... I've lived enough lives to know better at this point

if you want a very basic example... if you're unnecessarily hurting someone else, it is wrong

well, there are a few external set of rules that are called laws, those would tell you about what you SHOULD not do... and to go against the law is usually wrong

but, to me personally, my internal "set of boundaries" is a stronger influence on my actions

where does your "internal set of boundaries" come from?

who knows... genetics, instinct? God? nature and nurture? the environment in which I was born and raised, developed myself, grew up? all of it? some of it? did all those TV shows told me and convinced me to be good? thank you cartoons and 80's sitcoms?

I don't know exactly but I don't question

I just know that the moment I do something wrong... I get all kinds of bad feelings and sensations, what you could call guilt, remorse and all that, shame and stuff

especially, I don't like to hurt someone I care for

Is it something you would be proud to tell your kids about it, or be okay with your kids doing? Or your mom? Would you be okay with it being done to you? If the answer is no, then you probably shouldn't do it.

If you have to think twice about it...
If you have to ask others opinion
If you feel conflicted about what you are doing... those are all signs that it is a bad idea

Guidelines might include if it's legal or not although that doesn't always mean right or wrong it could help guide you.

Also if what you do impacts others more negatively than positively that might indicate it's wrong and vice versa.

This is definitely different and too vague to answer for sure because there's so much gray in the world.

I'm a big fan of the reality acid test. If something doesn't actually work, then I change my approach. How small of a pivot I make depends on other moralistic, principled, or ethical arguments I can make in favor of my old approach.

Because I know the difference between right and wrong and if somethings confusing on a weird situation if I need a little guidance then I’ll talk to my family members about it first before I react
