As an European, I can say I am never afraid of being sick in terms of money. I know I will receive the best help without worrying about paying layer. It is already paid for.
"America'' surely has a high quality standard for those who can pay it.
However - a 'healthcare system' also could be seen as an overall service to ALL the population. Where the U. S. are kind of... cruel to their own guys.
We don't. This overly regulated private market is the worst of both worlds. We need to ban the advertising of prescription drugs, eliminate the FDA, and get rid of insurance to cover routine medical care.
@Twalli how about antidepressants which were first very evidently useless, then with even more evidence that they are actually harmful and literally cause suicidal thoughts according to the most qualified researchers and therapists, being still prescribed?
Do you know that the long list of other drugs that have later been taken off the market for their harm, were all first approved by fda?
Except for the fact those companies have a vested interest in conducting accurate and unbiased tests otherwise they risk losing more than they'd make with lawsuits.
@pers0n a vaccine that is free for the public is different than a medicine that generates income from the customers. You can't bring a class action against a free drug.
@Twalli riiight. Ok then. You can surely read up on the FDA’s bullshit with OxyContin. When you’re not ignorant you can join the discussion with the adults.
Hahaha!!! Not even close. In fact, when you compare the cost of healthcare here versus the quality of healthcare here, the US comes in LAST among developed nations. No joke.
In Australia there is a public health care system that is free. My American friends are struggling with medical expenses for things they would get for free if they were Australian
@MrOracle Ok It's not really free as such but our general revenue is better managed and that's were our taxes go. America seems to spend a lot on foreign Aid and Defense and wastes it's money rather then providing a affordable health care system which is achievable with the right budget.
@purplepoppy It's not easy to compare. Different countries record them in different ways. But the CIA says the US is number 55 in the world at 5.3 deaths per 1000 live births. Presumably, they try to equalise the numbers. UK is 4.1, Germany 3.3, by their reckoning.
I've lived in France, Spain and Australia, the US has the most garbage of garbage Healthcare. I paid 40/month for waaaaayyyy better Healthcare in Australia. We have it terrible here.
Crazy how even republican politicians cross the border to Canada when their own healthcare is concerned, that's a good sign that America's healthcare system isn't even close to "the best".
In terms of care that can be provided we're in the top 5. In terms of people getting adequate care we're near the bottom of first world countries, and some second world countries.

Only if you are rich.
If you can afford it, people will take good care, but if you are poor or middle class, every broken bone may indebt you for the rest of your life.

The FDA makes sure what we are given is safe.
@Twalli what like OxyContin? Vioxx? AZT?
@Twalli how about antidepressants which were first very evidently useless, then with even more evidence that they are actually harmful and literally cause suicidal thoughts according to the most qualified researchers and therapists, being still prescribed?

@pers0n the FDA doesn't conduct itsown investigations of drugs. They use the company's.
@Twalli so then you just voided your original statement. They do not make sure what we are given is safe, lol.
Except for the fact those companies have a vested interest in conducting accurate and unbiased tests otherwise they risk losing more than they'd make with lawsuits.
@Twalli but some companies are "bullying governments" and do other tricks to get dry out of the water. https://www.citizen.org/article/pfizers-power/

@Twalli Dude, I don’t know if you’re incredibly naive or incredibly stupid. I suggest you watch the series “Dopesick” on Hulu then get back to me.
Give me access and I'll get to it, but I'm not going to subscribe to watch one thing. Same reason why I don't have Disney+
@Twalli lol, get a fucking job so you can afford $6 a month. Surely a top sniper could get that, haha.
I can afford it, but I don't buy what I won't use much. I don't see how $6 is worth it to watch one single thing
@Twalli right. Well again, are you stupid or ignorant?
I know what I know
@Twalli which is nothing.
My name isn't Jon Snow
@Twalli we aren’t quite sure what your name is. Because you’re a super l33t sniper who is scared to leave his house and can’t afford Hulu.
I can afford Hulu. Yet I don't see the value of $6 for a month's access to something g to watch one thing only.
@Twalli riiight. Ok then. You can surely read up on the FDA’s bullshit with OxyContin. When you’re not ignorant you can join the discussion with the adults.
Nope. not even close.
In fact there was a test done a while back. That it was cheaper and quicker to FLY to the UK and get a scan, cast and dispatch than in a US hospital.
Hahaha!!!
Not even close. In fact, when you compare the cost of healthcare here versus the quality of healthcare here, the US comes in LAST among developed nations. No joke.
When people literally go bankrupt when they get cancer it’s telling are system is God awful for a 1st world country
No, it does not. While the quality of healthcare in the US is fine, the system that delivers it is a disgrace.
Well said
In Australia there is a public health care system that is free. My American friends are struggling with medical expenses for things they would get for free if they were Australian
It's NOT free. You pay considerably higher taxes to pay for it.
@MrOracle Ok It's not really free as such but our general revenue is better managed and that's were our taxes go. America seems to spend a lot on foreign Aid and Defense and wastes it's money rather then providing a affordable health care system which is achievable with the right budget.
Does the US have the lowest infant mortality rate in the world?
Does the US have the highest life expectancy in the world?
No, and no. So no.
Doesn't America have one of the highest infant mortality rates in the western world
@purplepoppy It's not easy to compare. Different countries record them in different ways. But the CIA says the US is number 55 in the world at 5.3 deaths per 1000 live births. Presumably, they try to equalise the numbers. UK is 4.1, Germany 3.3, by their reckoning.
en.wikipedia.org/.../List_of_countries_by_infant_and_under-five_mortality_rates
78.5 is the average life expectancy, though.
upload.wikimedia.org/.../...ife_expectancy_WHO.svg
@purplepoppy it does, and the rate is worse if you're skin is a few shades darker
No. The costs to life expectancy ratios are probably the worst in the world.
The United States of America, specifically, doesn't.
By pretty much every metric, no, it's not the best. It's among the, if not the, worst for all "developed" countries
I think it is the best in the world. All the rich people from other countries come here if they have a serious health problem
Not really, no. Regardless of who's paying for it, the costs are absolutely insane.
Not necessarily the best, but it is the most expensive
You must have the money to have that opinion. Our healthcare system is only good if you have the money to pay for it.
