What are your thoughts on Pan-Arabism?

I have mixed feelings about it TBH. I mean I could see Saudi Arabia, Jordan and the gulf states merging into a single nation. However, I take issue with the idea that all Arab speaking nations should unite into one. A common argument is that the divisions in the Arab world were only drawn by the European Imperial powers but is this true? If you look at maps from pre-Roman times you can see national divisions reminiscent of what we see today. There were the Arameans in Syria, the Phoenicians in Lebanon, Canaanites in Palestine, Egyptians in well Egypt, Libyan tribes in well Libya, the Carthaginians in Tunisia and the Amazigh in Algeria and Morocco. I mean I think you could make a case that some borders were drawn in the wrong places such as in Iraq because if you look back through history you can see a consistent north south divide in Iraq. First it was the Akkadians in the North and the Sumerians in the South. Then it was the Assyrians in the north and the Babylonians in the South and now you have Sunni in the north and Shia in the south so I think there is a case to be made for the partitioning of Iraq. However, to call all divisions in the Arab world "artificial colonial creations" would be fecicious. But there is still a strong cultural influence that the Arab conquests have left throughout the region so I think that the Arab countries should enter into an economic union similar to the EU.
