Male and female refers to the size of the gametes each group produces, it is a scientific term. However the characteristics we associate with each sex are heavily influenced by society. You can try and teach a boy to be feminine but simply by observing the world around him he'll adapt male characteristics.

4 me it's an English construct becuz the words are different in other languages. I just looked up what "male" is in Chinese and it's like Nánxìng. Actually even the letters are social constructs they use something different like 男性

They are not, never been and never going to be. There is a big difference between gender and gender roles. But clearly some people are to dumb to understand that.
