How do you decide who to vote for?

Question

Next month (November) will be mid-term elections in the United States. But Americans are not the only ones who vote in elections, whenever they happen.

Let's see how people around the world choose which candidate (s) to vote for.

I will vote for Republicans no matter who they have on the ticket.

There was a time in America when it was about the candidate. Not anymore. Now it is distinctly about one ideology versus another. I find the Democrats' lurch to socialist/Progressive/communist/fascist ideology so repugnant that my vote for Republicans is in fact not necessarily about the candidate but about voting AGAINST what I view to be a totalitarian ideology.

There is another aspect to it as well. Any candidate who would associate themselves with the ideology that I deem to be the ruin of the country that I so love, is automatically eliminated from my list. I think that anyone who would align themself with the Democrats is part of the problem, not the answer. To me it is shameful and evil.

Therefore I will vote all Republican down the line in every election until there is a better reason not to.

I vote for the candidate that best aligns with what I want to see come to fruition in terms of ideals.  Unfortunately most of them will never see office.

I always sit down a night before, choose the few out of I don't know how many, that I find okaaaay not that bad and read through their uhm plan? Inform myself about their views and opinions
And then I decided last minute when I have to put my mark on this list

B and C, I voted C. I didn't choose "qualified" because I think their values, and having the same values as oneself, is really the most important trait. One can be lacking in experience, yet maybe they need to be given a chance to enact their values.

Ideally, I try to vote for the candidates that I believe will do the best job at handling the most relevant issues, for the greatest number of people. Democrat, Republican, or Independant; I want someone qualified for the position, and has the best grasp of what needs to be addressed.

Unfortunately, the reality is more likely that I'll simply be forced to choose the lesser of two/three evils. That usually means voting for the candidate that's the least corrupt, and owned by the fewest lobbyists.

Nine times out of ten, there aren't any good choices, on any side, because our political system is a dumpster fire. The only people with the power to change that, are the very people who benefit from the way it is now.

I look at their background, policies they've signed for, what they represented and what they pushed for, who's backing them, the relationship they have with their parents and family, how they handle questions, interviews, and debates, how direct they are when they answer questions, and what do their affiliated party thinks of them.

I didn't vote for Biden, because he shows all the signs of dementia and claims you're not black if you don't know if you're for him or Trump. In the past, his policies her the black community of the state her represented. Plus, Kamela Harris was chosen as VP rather than Tulsi Gabbard or Susan Rice.

I didn't vote for Hillary because her background in controversy, lack of transparency of her emails, and she brought out a bottle of Hot Sauce to show she can "relate" to black people.

I vote for the one who supports the smallest government. As both major parties are filled with big government types and corporatist shills (I'm free market, not crony corporatist), that often means leaving the office blank here because California has a top-two primary system, designed to eliminate third party / independents from running in the general election. If you end up with a pair of idiots or criminally indicted people, too bad. Choose one or leave it blank.

Well, they're all slimy, sleezy scumbags, it's like a requirement to be a politician in America really. Whenever I vote for anyone really, I usually have to hold my nose while I do it. I'm pretty in the middle. I side with Democrats on some things and Republicans on some things, so it's really just about the specific people and who I think will do better at the job.

The only chance is voting for independents, but they (as in the super elite) would never would allow them to be in control of a country.
