What would you do if you found someone's expensive-looking smartphone lying on the ground?

This is like a $1,500 1TB iPhone 14 Pro.

Well, this was my 2pm today. Lucky for her, she knows English and could actually talk to me. The phone, like most, was locked too, so she's also lucky she called right at the perfect time, cause I was considering just leaving it there, instead of holding onto it and having her meet me at my job. At least I got $20 for returning it back to her, so that's a happy ending. (I'm broke AF right now until pay day; I need that twenty bucks!)

What would you do if you found someone's phone on the ground?

Hold it until someone calls and try to return it to them (for free).

Hold it for ransom and insist for a reward for its safe return back to them.

Turn it off or let the battery die and try to sell it, pawn it off, or keep it as my own after a factory reset.

Leave it exactly where I found it (do nothing); maybe they'll come back for it.

Turn it in to the nearest guard booth or convenience store clerk and let them deal with it.

Something else / Other.

If no one is around to ask whether it belongs to them, then I'd check if it's locked or not. If it isn't I'd contact someone and try and get it back to the owner with the caveat that they need to come to me to retrieve it. If it's at work, school, restaurant, for example, I'm turning in to someone. If it's locked, on the street, no one around, and worth something, I'd take it and wipe it

I would try and return it for free.. I've lost a few phones, and I know how it feels.. I can only imagine losing an expensive iPhone.. Not to mention, she probably lives on the things so her world would be crushed..

The last time I found some girl's lost purse in the college library, she accused me of "stealing it" from her and called the police on me. So I've grown sour to doing good samaritan deeds like this, but I guess this girl was more chill.

It has happened before when out in the back country and I did run over someone's phone with an ATV, it still worked though and I did A to get it back to him.

There aren't any police stations nearby or security guards were I live, so I really had to think about either leaving it there where I found it, or holding onto it. It was implied that she visited her boyfriend last night and doesn't actually live in my apartment complex, and the boyfriend was likely at work at the time, so she had to 'travel back' to town to get the phone.

I would turn it in. I found a diamond engagement ring in the YMCA parking lot. I just turned it in at the front desk.

That is a good answer for a general situation like this.

But for me, there's no place I could've turned it in. Best thing I could've done is left it on the front desk of my building (no one ever sits there or occupies it cause there is no building security), but this apartment complex has four towers, and I later found out, her boyfriend lives in one of them; she doesn't even live here.

If nobody was around I'd just turn it in to the nearest customer service clerk. Otherwise I'd just leave it there.
