I guess they are just afraid of awakening the 'They/them' army by saying it too much
I have a problem with anyone who uses pronouns
I don't have a problem with it... until someone tells me it's illegal NOT to. At that point they can fuck off. I have a serious problem when I might go to jail for calling a woman "her".
I don't mind using it when it's more than one person. It's plural, not singular. Maybe someone with multiple personalities can use it.
They is Plural but it's just a single Person. You can use he or she and if you don't want to decide say 'it'.
They is also singular 🙂 take a look online and read up about it's history it's really interesting
Yes I have read this dictionary articke so 1375 it appears in the medieval romance William and the Werwolf. But the article does not mention if it was used by many authors or just this author. It can be an error or it was just a stupid Person and nobody cirrected him. And the next centuries nobody used it
William Shakespeare, Virginia Woolf, C. S. Lewis , Jane Austen and many more used they as singular. Gonna call the worlds greatest authors and play writes stupid?
No. Just this article did not mention them.
But others do 😌
My only problem is remembering which people prefer which pronouns.
why is sexual identity something to be written on bio
we don't care which gender someone is into
It's not sexual identity it's gender identity.
It's shitty English. They/them is plural. Sorry--it just is. If you want to be a they/them, get some friends and hang out together. Voila!
It's been accepted as singular since the 1300s in verbal English and since more recently in written so we don't have to do the whole she/he, hers/his thing.
I've never said it in my life not going start now if that's what people what to do go ahead but I'm not joining in
Use whatever you want, just don't try to force me into changing my ways. I'll call you what I want to call you.
My problem is that they want legal consequences for those who refuse to use them.
I've got no issue with it if you're from a pride community.
He/she points to an individual where they/them point to a group. could be improper English
It’s definitely a new phenomenon, but I don’t have an issue with it.
What does they mean? What does them mean? Are they singular? I don't think so.
Tis indeed. Singular use of they has been dated back to the 1300s
People were dumb in the 1300s. Are you saying that we have again become dumb?
I'm saying it has been used that way SINCE then. So yes it is singular too and it has essentially always beenm
Give me an example of how they used it?
In a medieval romance called William and the werewolf there is a line in old English that translates to "Each man hurried. . . till they drew near. . . where William and his darling were lying together." the use of they in this case was referring to a singular person.
Jane Austen and William Shakespeare also used it a fair bit.
It's also not a new thing to use a different pronoun for someone who doesn't associate with he/him she/her in the 1800s "hesh", "hister" and "thon" which are combinations of words were used though they didn't continue into this day.
In the mediaeval period, slavery was legal. I would love to bring back that period. What do you think?
Are you trying to compare people using they/them pronouns to slavery 🤨🤨 I think you should check yourself.
I am trying to compare people on the basis of what they did back then to what they are doing now. People were nuts back then and I would really not like to live in that time. People would literally kill others without thinking of the consequences. Law and order was a joke. I don't understand why you think mediaeval time period is a good argument. They and them are not singular. They are plural. Mediaeval period was cruel. I would not want to be like them. Our goal should be to evolve. Going back to a piece of shit time to say that they used to do something is dumb.
You asked how they used it. Just because shit happened in the past that we don't agree with does not mean that we should ignore language used?
Sure! Start calling blacks the n word and you'll see what happens.
I feel like you're just trying to say shocking things to get a point across that literally doesn't exist.
All I am saying is that just because people do certain things at certain time period doesn't mean that it's right. They and them are plural. Nowadays people are using it to say that we don't agree to a gender but that's just isn't right. If I say that I am a god and my pronoun is almighty then that would be dumb.
My friend has $15 so they went to the store.
I called the plumber, they should be here soon.
Sam? No I don't think I've met them yet.
When I was growing up, it was an insult to refer to someone using neuter pronouns.
U can call yourself a potato if it makes u happy, it doesn’t bother me
I can't get used to it. I have to call them they are, something them. It doesn't make sense
It's grammatically incorrect.
Nope
I have no problem with it
I just realize that I don't care. lol.
Because it's fucking stupid
Because black lives matter 😂
I dont care. None of my business
nothing really... idc
No problem here
I got no problem with it
The love of my life uses they them
