ohhh scary huh?
It's not nearly as bad in 2022 as it was in the 1990's, either.
I came across this the other day:
"I have some empirical data in hand. San Francisco has a murder rate that was half that of Bakersfield, California. Bakersfield has a red mayor, San Francisco has a blue mayor," [Rep. Al ]Green said.
"Bakersfield is the home of Mr. McCarthy, the minority leader," he emphasized
"My colleagues are very good at creating alternative facts. The truth is, according to statistical information in 2020, the per capita murder rate was 40% higher in states won by Donald Trump than those won by Joe Biden.
Eight of ten states with the highest murder rates in 2020 voted for Republican presidential nominees in every election in this century."
Hell, for a short while a few years ago New York had a lower murder rate than London (it reverted to its current norm of about double, but still, iirc, a fifth of it's 1990s peak).
Hypocrisy is their native language.
And the actually expect you not to notice.
Well given that they will be surrounded by armed security… pretty friggin safe for them! But I friend of mine here at college is from there, and even before i got covid, she told me that it is so bad now, that not only does she personally know multiple people who have been the victims of crime, she said that everyone she knows in New York knows at least ONE person who has been victimized by violent crime (including robbery). And she noted almost everyone who owns a car (not as common in NYC) but they have all had their cars broken into, and property stolen.
Depends on perspective. It ain’t scary to the New Yorkers.. lmao
