I'd like to see him run for President in 2024 with Nikki Haley as his VP. That would be a formidable Republican ticket that the Democrats would have a hard time beating.

I like DeSantis... For Florida. I think he's exactly what that state needs. I'm not too excited about him being president.

He's a little too extreme for me, I don't think he's going to do anything positive that matters to me personally as a voter. I'm sure he would do a lot of good but I think he would also further the divide this country faces.

I want someone who will fix the economy, lower gas prices, pursue police reform, take advantage of the situation with Taiwan, increase our export of goods.

If I see someone who convinces me they will try their best to check those boxes, I'll probably vote for them. I just don't think DeSantis' main goal is along those lines, I think he wants to throw down the hammer at things that, make sense in Florida, but not so much for the country as a whole.

No, I think that running Florida is very different than running the country right now.

Gotta figure there's two reasons he's doing well, one being his political beliefs and two being his ability to impart his values onto the people of Florida.

DeSantis wants a wild west with conservative values. Which is cool for Florida but what's going to happen with the social divide in this country when he starts making a bunch of ultra conservative moves, gives the democrats nothing and probably makes fun of them along the way?

Theyre gonna find another Biden to come after him, undo everything and maybe even put us in another recession.

I think we need more middle of the road right now.

And to be frank, I'm not convinced he really faces much opposition in Florida in the way he would as a president.

The police there are crazy. They literally have no respect for your rights. The gun laws there are pretty much designed to get you in jail for non lethal uses of your fire arm. Like firing a warning shot.

The don't say gay bill had been blown out of proportion by the left but let's be honest, it really wouldn't be fair for someone to try that bill federally.

And to make things worse, those schools are still trying to institutionalize kids with leftist propaganda.

I like DeSantis and for the record, I don't necessarily consider Florida a conservative wild west, just a regular one. The conservative values are part of what makes Florida so great. But Florida isn't like the other states and I don't think DeSantis really cares about serving the people, I think he has an idea for how the world should be and he wants to facilitate that. And what he has done isn't really what I feel like is best for everyone. And his police force in Florida with his lack of voice about the problem is a major issue to me.

I'm trying to say that I think his values just sorta happened to fall in like with the very specific values the average floridian has. That's why he's perfect for there, because it doesn't really seem like it takes much effort for him there.

And my problem with the bill has more to do with how his response to the backlash was handled. I like the law, I think the penalties are overly strong and don't account for the fact that kids say stupid things all the time and there should have been better wording ( if it were going to be a law someplace else)

And the only people who think that DeSantis generally cares down there is a group of hardcore conservatives. Which I probably am making this group sound smaller and more extreme than it is, maybe it's better to call it a collection of niche's.

Most people down there will take anyone who's not a crazy, over the top leftist and DeSantis just happened to have the most similar values to them and is generally hilarious.

So far as the gun laws, I don't agree with "if you're pulling it out, it better be to shoot somebody" life is precious and cannot be replaced. If I think I can get someone to stop themself from doing something stupid but I also need to protect myself, it shouldn't be illegal to go down that path.

The school-related bill wasn’t in actuality about stopping anyone from saying the word “gay,” it was basically about “it’s not appropriate to have any school-led discussions in primary schools.”

The police there are famous for being assholes who abuse their authority, use excessive force, are unprofessional and get away with not only breaking the law themselves but arresting people based on a complete disregard for the letter/spirit of specific laws.

In other words on that last comment, they have a tendency to just arrest people they don't like rather than people who are actually breaking rules.

So far as I know Florida seems to have a lot of on-duty officers with numerous complaints on them. And the judges side with the state no matter how offensive an officers activity was to their oath.

Hell, I was down there once riding a moped in a lane marked with picture of a guy riding a motorcycle. Cop pulled me over. One of them was a very nice, professional guy who when the older cop would walk away, this one would try to communicate the situation to me almost as if he was afraid of and did not agree with his partner.

The other guy was a jerk, said the lane is for bicycles even though the lane was obviously placed there so people on mopeds could travel between Miami and south Beach. (which I later found out was exactly the case)

And then after giving me a $300 ticket I had to practically beg him to give me an explanation for. He ordered me to ride the moped in the middle of the highway which yes, goes against Florida statutes.

My case was an incredibly innocent one. I wasn't even that mad since the police in New Jersey used to behave not that much better. But it made me really turned off at the idea of moving there and made me feel like DeSantis is a bit of a phoney. At least in terms of police.

I also learned down there about how they treat homeless people there which can also borderline go too far. As much sympathy as I have for a cop having to deal with them, some of the stories I heard and the things I personally saw were just a little out of line.

When I say economy guru I mean if he made me believe he could improve the economy by making the stock market go up a lot, getting housing cost under control, setting our country to export more goods and take in money from the outside world. To be honest, even if he just said " hey, we have a bit of a problem with the police in this country and we should do something about it" that would be a big deal to me

Trump basically is leading Republicans to a disaster in polls. Under his comment Republicans are either losing or having a pyrrusic win in 2022, they lost election in 2020, lost election in 2018 and they lost the popular vote in 2016, despite narrowly winning in Rust Belt. And he endorsed several election deniers that lost several seats that were very easy to win.

Meanwhile DeSantis just won by 20% in a state that 3 or 4 years ago was a narrow edge swing state. And most important - he does not have such a toxic rhetoric as Trump.

Trump running in 2024 would be the worst that could happen for GOP as centrist voters would vote for everyone but him.
