Is it because women are more moral?
+1 yMen are better at it. I know a guy who robbed well over 200 banks. He was cool as a cucumber. He never had a gun. He just walked in the bank and asked them for the money. He never made any threats, he just asked for the money. He told me that bank personnel are trained to do as told. So when he asked for the money, he let the banker know that he didn't want any "ink" or "trackers." They obliged.
For every bank heist, he would buy a used car on Craigslist. He would walk calmly out of the bank, and get into his temp car. Then he would drive slowly to where his real car was parked, and drive away in that. In his real car he had a 12 volt microwave oven. He put the cash in the microwave and gave it a blast to blow out any tracking devices.
He then put the money in a shoe box and mailed it to his POB in Nevada.
He told me it really was never about the money, but it was about the thrill. So in a nutshell, I think that's your answer to the question.

This took place over 50 years ago. Back in the day, the merchant teller had about $30,00 cash in the drawer. Now that's all been changed, so his method would no longer work.
He had a theatrical makeup kit. He would put scars on his face, and change his nose... etc...
He'd put on a wig and just walk in and ask for the money. There was no threat involved, he just asked for it.
His record was 5 banks in one day. That required five clunkers off of craigslist. 500 cash, and here's the keys. No registration necessary.
It took the FBI a long time to track him down. His fatal mistake was calling his brother in Seattle. The feds had his brother's phone tapped.

+1 yFrom a 2012 Scientific American article:
" ... A number of studies demonstrate that men have lower moral standards than women, at least in competitive contexts. For example, men are more likely than women to minimize the consequences of moral misconduct, to adopt ethically questionable tactics in strategic endeavors, and to engage in greater deceit. This pattern is particularly pronounced in arenas in which success has (at least historically) been viewed as a sign of male vigor and competence, and where loss signifies weakness, impotence, or cowardice (e. g., a business negotiation or a chess match). When men must use strategy or cunning to prove or defend their masculinity, they are willing to compromise moral standards to assert dominance.
Note that there's nothing mentioned here about what women will do to get what they want from a man, or in the business world. But generally speaking, men are much better at, and more willing to compartmentalize just about anything, including "situational morals".
That said, your specific example of bank robbers is explained better by the fact that men are physically stronger, more prone to violence. As for hackers, that has to do with computer programming and training. 70% of programmers are men to begin with, and 91% of hackers are men.
+1 yI heard some hackers stole millions in about 8 seconds. Don't know the gender of the hackers now.
An app for selling women was created and managed by a girl. And there were 2 girls in the group. That shocked me to the core.
Men doing such robberies and crimes at least do not turn on their own gender. On an average.
I do not allow and like human crimes. Like rape and all such cowardly things. But I have a high respect for any other financial crime or hacking. Because both the crimes today, require a very specific set of skills to work.

Women however, probably think about it. And have other options to get money than just rob someone.

1.9K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. It is an error to assume that arrest and conviction equals criminal acts.
Because there is a well known bias in both law enforcement and the courts.
A woman is less likely to be pulled over, if pulled over less likely to be questioned, if questioned less likely to be arrested, if arrested less likely to be charged, if charged less likely to be convicted, and if convicted will most likely have a lighter sentence then her male counterpart.
So yes females have less criminal convictions in virtually all criminal categories. But its not, necessarily, because they do less crime.
11 Reply- +1 y
Well put. 👍
Because women are physically weaker and most crime involves brute strength and physical threats of violence. Even a 5'10" female criminal wouldn't be able to do much to a 5'8" male civilian without a gun. Also, women have much easier routes to get money in a shady unethical way, such as prostitution, being a gold digger, or OnlyFans.

What woman wants to deal with all that preliminary busywork, when they can prostitute themselves on OnlyFans and NOT go to jail, or face any of that other hassle.
Compared to the thrill of a heist, it can be boring. But if she's lazy, she'll go with OnlyFans instead. Every time.

+1 yI would assume it's cause women can open their legs for a man's money and they don't have to commit crimes to get money, there's no easy access to money for a guy so sometimes crime is the last desperate resort for money, prostitution is a woman's go to last resort when crime is a guys go too, I'm sure if women paid for sex as much as guys pay for sex, there would be a lot more male prostitutes and possibly maybe even less crime, don't quote me on that tho

In reality, from the time they are little boys emotional outbursts and rage are more accepted in little boys whereas they are harshly shamed in little girls.
So men grow up to hurt others more and women grow up to self-harm more.
04 Reply- +1 y
So it's right to shame people.
- +1 y
Parenting little boys is not "shaming"
Calling out inappropriate behavior in men is not "shaming"
- +1 y
And nowhere did I claim that shaming little girls for being angry was okay, it directly leads to using self-harm to deal with anger rather than healthy methods like journalling or taking it out on a punching bag or an intense work out.
- +1 y
You said "In reality, from the time they are little boys emotional outbursts and rage are more accepted in little boys whereas they are harshly shamed in little girls"
This was your explanation as to why women are less violent than men
So is it right or not to shame girls?
You have to be either trolling, or genuinely stupid to get to that conclusion. The reason why there's more of them, is because they are better at it. If women could get millions on heists, they would so it more often. Has nothing to do with morality.
Men also make more money legally as well. Men own more businesses than women do. If women were as moral as you say, they wouldn't sell themselves online for 4.99 a month and would outwork men and make more money than them.
013 Reply- +1 y
Morality is a personal characteristic, not related to gender. People who are not moral tend to also suffer from apathy, and have psychopathic tendencies. This is not unique to anyone. If I said women kill more children than men (which is true, search it up) is it because women are less moral than men? Or are there maybe other reasons that can explain such a difference? Imma leave that one up to you.
- +1 y
Yes, men ARE better at it, but science has weighed in on this and you might want to look at some of the research, as well as my answer. Men have been found to be more morally "lax" on certain measurable standards, but "measuring morality" is where it gets sticky.
- +1 y
@loveslongnails Once again, no. This topic is far too complex to be a "measurable" quantity. The topic of morality has sub-branches as well. Discrimination? Justification of murder? Lawlessness? Apathy? Lack of modesty? Far too many for one to just take them all under the same umbrella as one being more or less moral. If we know that women kill more children, does it make them less moral? No. It's due to their proximity, so that makes them more likely to. Same with men. To say men are more "lax" with certain standards would mean that the same is true for women, which would cancel out your argument. None of what you said contradicts my reply.
- +1 y
Obviously, it does according to the research that was cited by Scientific American. Before you dismiss all of it, you might to take a look at some of it.
onlinelibrary.wiley.com/.../...45%3E3.0.CO%3B2-%23
Your examples do not make much sense, particularly this one: "To say men are more "lax" with certain standards would mean that the same is true for women". I guess you're presuming that if 20 standards were listed and men were lax about 10 of them, that women would be lax about the other 10, so they'd cancel each other out? My gut feeling is that if you were to list 20 standards, men would be far more lax on most, somewhat more lax on a few, and equal on a few. It's probably in the research, and I haven't been through all of it.
It also seems you missed the part where I admitted that "measuring morality" is a sticky business, but it has been attempted. - +1 y
@loveslongnails That's your guess, but your guess isn't a fact.
The research that you sent me is not only NOT about morality difference between men and women, I would argue that the it's irrelevant. This is to do with the ethics of negotiations in business, which is only ONE of MANY different parameters that should be included in the discussion.
Also, you cannot use that one liner where they said that "women are more averse to questionable tactics than men" and then pull that across the spectrum. Remember that A) the sample size is too small since it's only one group of business student studying for a semester, not a national study and B) the confidence interval is not listed in the study. Moreover, this is just an abstract and the full study is in a pdf I have to pay $12 and include my institution, which for the purposes of this discussion I don't have the time nor the interest to do.
Your argument for this case is weak sir. My point stands. - +1 y
Your point stands in your mind sir, but what little science there is about this is against you. Try this research as well:
royalsocietypublishing.org/.../rspb.2020.1201 - +1 y
@loveslongnails So I have gone over it briefly because a detailed review will probably take 2 weeks, but this is what I understand:
There are 5 main parameters being tested: Care, Fairness, Purity, Loyalty and Authority. The first 3 are higher in women, and the other 2 are variable depending on cultures.
Large enough sample size. Fair enough for that.
67 countries.
I also noticed it was a surveyed study. Not the most perfect, but it's a measure that can be used. I would prefer a cohort study or a case-control study where behavior is actually tested because questions are answered based on interpretation.
Are you aware of the prison guard experiment? That's a very accurate way of getting data, but the ethics of such study are rather questionable. This is why it's important to take the consent of the subjects and explain broadly (not in cohort studies) what the idea of the study is.
The findings are suggestive, but like I said there are more parameters that are untested. Selflessness/sacrifice, humility, generosity, protectiveness and more to name a few. You cannot oversimplify morality, so you may not like it, but there's more to the picture.
If you said measuring morality is not easy, why are you trying to push this point across that women are more likely to have higher morals without ABSOLUTE empirical evidence of every single possible measure of morals? You cannot, and you will not because such a thing does not exist. I never claimed men have higher morals, I just suggested that such a comparison is not only difficult to prove, but is very stupid. - +1 y
I agreed it is not easy, but you calling it "stupid" because it is difficult to compare begs the point that there are certain aspects of morality that may be measurable. At this point, you seem to be arguing not so much for the validity of any study, but for vanity and the fact that you're male and don't wish to be categorized as being "less moral". I understand that, and on an individual basis, that applies. Has there EVER been ABSOLUTE empirical evidence about a non-physical condition or event? Not that I'm aware of, but if you know anything about statistical analysis, you should know that 100% participation of every imaginable or known measure is not a requirement to establish a trend. At least you looked at the data - far more than many would do on this site. Kudos for that.
- +1 y
@loveslongnails if women were more moral than men most child abuse wouldn't be committed by women.
- +1 y
@loveslongnails No, you are lacking common sense. I'm not questioning the accuracy of the study, pay close attention. I listed some other parameters that were not included in the study. It's very convenient for you to dig up something and say here we go that's it, but there's always more to the story. There's a reason more men die in war, protect women and children, give their jacket to the woman on a rainy day and walk on the side of the sidewalk that's adjacent to the road. There's a reason for all of that. We are more selfless, and that's the point I've been trying to get into your head for a while now. Granted, selflessness is also just ONE parameter, but you also need more. However accurate these 5 things were, it doesn't matter if you don't have everything listed.
Also, this has nothing to do with myself, so don't bring me into it. This is what I would like to call ad hominem fallacy. Trying to deflect from the topic by pointing fingers at the other person.
I never said we need 100% evidence, I said we need to try down everything. There are medical drugs that are tested with side effects, but also a therapeutic use. Does it mean we cannot use them? That depends on the therapeutic index. As with everything, we don't have 100% certainty, but at the very least we should write down a more accurate list before we start. I wouldn't have a problem if a meta-analysis was done and this very study was combined with others that had different purposes, but you seem to think that is enough. - +1 y
Wow... I see what's going on here. Men are more selfless because they go to war, or give a jacket to woman on a cold day? What in the WORLD does this have to do with morality, in total? What about the men who SEND men to war, usually due to their own ego, megalomania or fanatic religious beliefs? There is no greater morality in following that, mister.
You lecture as if you are a wellspring of wisdom an pure logic, but all you're doing now is offering sophomoric straw men, with the emphasis on sophomoric and condescending. I bid you good day and good fortune, but I've no need to read your words any longer. - +1 y
@loveslongnails Huh? Your tone on the last message was nothing short of condescending, but somehow you claim I was? OK.
The ones you complain about are the one's who are in charge, which are a minority among all men in this situation. Even then, if we used your logic, there were other people who had power and used it for good. The allies during WWII and defeat of Hitler, the Union army in the American Civil War and even more recently the war against Russia. You make absolute statements, which are asinine, and then relate it to men in general. Have you heard of the new Italian PM? She is more racist and xenophobic than MANY male leaders across the world. Marie LePen? Kim Jong Un's sister? Evil can exist in both genders, but we see it in male leaders more because we have had more male leaders.
The other thing that people like yourself DON'T talk about is that these female leaders can also send MEN to fight wars as well. The British war against Argentina over the islands was an example of that. Politics is a dirty game in general, not gender specific. If men didn't defend their home countries, who will?
Now that I've given my two cents, if you refuse to listen that just says more about yourself than it says about me. I'm done here.
+1 yMen are generally willing to do a lot more extremes than women. The reason why criminal activity carries a certain allure is because enacting this behavior involves courage to do so. The reason why people don't rob banks is not generally because of morality, but rather cowardice. This is why women showcase so much attraction to the "Bad Boy" aura.
