I doubt it'll actually pass, especially without millions if not billions of dollars worth of unrelated crap tacked on to it.

Social media in general is pretty much a net negative for society at this point, and tiktok's data mining and social engineering are a huge problem- but what's frequently overlooked is the fact that people who use TikTok are on it for almost ten times as long as any other app per day. It would not be inaccurate to describe it as a digital drug that is especially potent against younger people, particularly kids, teens, and college age adults.

I get it. I mean I understand the ban.

But that will not fix our issue. The issue is that American Culture is sick. More kids want to be an influencer. . . than go into engineering, science, or business.

Our social media peddles everything from politics, to relationships, sex, entertainment, etc.

In another decade, China will surpass us, if we don't figure out how to refocus ourselves.

I know it sounds stupid to try and ban that, but what people don't realize is that it is owned by the Chinese and is a easy way for them to collect data.

The Chinese found a way to collect data without having to hack it.

If you read the text of the bill, it isn't just Tiktok, it applies to any social media company that is owned by a country that is considered a foreign adversary.

Tiktok happens to be the main reason for it.

I expect those that use it, will one day complain they got hacked, when in reality... they gave their information away freely.

They’re only going to ban it from government devices for obvious reasons. There’s no need for a total ban. If a private citizen wants to risk their data being stolen, that’s on them isn’t it?

Facebook, Instagram, and Parler steal as much or even more data. I've experimented with all social apps. TikTok gives you an option to share your data, but it is not mandatory.
